Acne and Adult Acne (Rosacea) What is Wrong with Me?

When my friend Sid was small he used to get pimples. His brothers used to get acne pimples as well but they were lucky because their acne used to disappear quickly. He was the unlucky one because he used to get a new one almost every other day. Everyone told him that once he will reach the age of 25 they will go away, and they did but unfortunately he contracted with rosacea, i.e. adult acne.

He used to get patchy-redness and sudden flushing all the time, sometimes he had a pimple or two but his skin used to remain oily all the time. He used to wash his face every couple of hours with medicated soap but his face used to get oily very quickly.

The problem was that he didn?t even realize that he had rosacea for the first few years until his skin specialist diagnosed him with rosacea. He became self-conscious and used to avoid gatherings. He tried many different treatments and medicines antibiotics, Retin-A you name it he tried it including herbal treatments. Even used gram flour and orange peel, which his grandma prepared and forced him to used but nothing worked for him.

First I had Acne and now adult acne, what is the problem with me? The question he used to ask himself and to everyone else almost everyday for which the answer we still don't know.

He tried different creams and changed his skin specialist again and again to find the right one. But unfortunately nothing and no one could help him. This is because what causes rosacea is still unknown. It is still a mystery even for some doctors that which rosacea treatment is actually right for someone who has rosacea. It?s not that treatments do not work with rosacea, some treatments work well, but which one is the right one is a million dollar question.

Until one day when his mum's ever increasing criticism became unbearable he stopped using soap, drinking more water and he started washing his face only with warm water. In his own words the first 3 weeks were terrible for him. He could not go out, he could not face anyone. I think it was just his imagination that he looked awful but after that his face accepted water and the oiliness of his face started to decline. It took about 2 months before his face started to remain dry and he got rid of oiliness.

The flushing was still the big problem for him. Even though he promised himself that he will not used any new treatment but a sudden flare-up still made him look around for treatments. Then he discovered Jojoba Oil, which was a turning point and a true-life saver for him, that?s what he says about the oil. It took about a week before his face actually accepted the oil. The best thing was the application of Jojoba oil was simple, just warm water a drop of pure jojoba oil every morning and evening and his face redness started to decline. Nowadays he doesn't get sudden flare-ups.

I hope that some people who are suffering from acne rosacea, if increase the use of water and use jojoba oil instead of experimenting on new medicated soaps and creams then they might help them with their rosacea problem.

4 Surefire Ways to Save Money and Time With Your Acne Treatment

You probably won?t believe this, but if you?re serious about getting rid of acne, you need a strategy. Yet most acne sufferers fail to answer four key questions that could save them a ton of time and money when it comes to getting clearer skin.

Save yourself a load of acne agony by answering these four questions before you start any acne treatment:

1. How much will the acne treatment cost and how often do I have to use the treatment?

2. When can I expect to see visible results and will I be patient enough to wait that long?

3. Will my skin stay clear even after I stop the treatment?

4. What are the acne treatment side effects?

1. How much will the acne treatment cost and how often do I have to use the treatment?

Whether you?re filling an acne prescription, buying herbal supplements, or using a skin care regimen, cost is a major consideration before using any acne treatment. Prescriptions for acne like clindamycin phosphate or Accutane (isotretinoin) can range from $10 ?$300 per month, and if you insurance company doesn?t cover this fee, you?ll have to pay it all yourself.

Herbal supplements may not prove any more economical choice since some vitamins that boast anti-acne properties can cost as much as $40 per month. Then again acne facial treatments, which usually arrive in tiny bottles, can cost in excess of $60 a month.

At first, most acne sufferers wait anxiously for clear skin and abandon treatments before the acne disappears. This wastes time and money. Yet dermatologist Hilary E. Baldwin sees this behavior often enough to get vexed with patients who reappear every 6-9 months ?back to square one? because they did not consistently use their acne prescriptions.

Even if you can afford your acne treatment, you must ask yourself if you?re willing to follow the guidelines and use the product daily, or several times a day as recommended.

2. When can you expect to see visible results and will you be patient enough to wait that long?

If you have acne now, patience with your skin probably isn?t only your list of virtues. But with most acne treatments, the skin will not improve for the first 4 weeks of therapy, and dramatic improvements appear after 8-12 weeks.

Typically, topical treatments for acne, like benzoyl peroxide, tazarotene and retinol, can provide faster visible results that most internal acne treatments like azithromycin, or other antibiotics.

3. Will my skin stay clear even after I stop the treatment?

Topical acne treatments do not permanently limit the excess oil secretion by the pores or increase the cell turnover rate of the skin- two actions that help prevent the development of acne. So, unless you use drugs or alter your internal chemistry via natural methods, you would need to use topical agents for an indefinite amount of time to control your acne.

4. What are the acne treatment side effects?

The manufacturer of prescription drugs and acne herbal supplement or vitamin provides a detailed list of possible side effects. Users of acne drugs like isotretinoin and antibiotics have sited depression and nausea as side effects. Potential side effects from herbal supplements also include indigestion and stomach irritation. If you?re a women using oral contraceptives to combat acne, you may experience bloating and nausea.

In short, whether your get your acne treatment from Tibetan healer or your dermatologist, be upfront about your financial situation, your patience level and willingness to change your daily habits. Otherwise, you could spend years from acne treatment to acne treatment and never see any visible results.

Shaving and the Adolescent Male

The most obvious way around it is to use a good quality electric shaver. Usually this resolves the problem of cutting pimples and causing unnecessary pain and injury. However, you will need to follow a good skin care regime to remove the dead skin cells which build up on you skin, in order to promote healthy growth of new skin cells. We?ll discuss exfoliation later.

Make sure you use skin care products for sensitive skin when acne pimples are many and inflamed. It?s important to get the skin type right too. Dry, normal or oily skin, requires different approaches and in many cases there will be a couple of different skin types in any one individual.

For example, you may have a combination of dry and oily skin, or normal and oily skin. Usually with acne there is a component of oily skin ? the nose, forehead are often oily, while the cheeks and chin areas are either normal or dry. You will need to keep this in mind in order to effectively treat your acne and shave without causing additional problems.

There are some basic principles that all you men should know about their skin and how to best conquer the shaving process.

It sounds easy enough, hey just put some shaving gel on your face and using a razor, take it off again, simple, how hard could it be?

The problem is not that the act of shaving is in itself difficult, it?s not, but unfortunately the skin can very much be a problem. If shaving is not done correctly, you could end up looking a bloody mess and have blotchy irritated skin and that is not a good look with which to impress the girls.

To start with, young men, and for that matter even mature men don?t realise that the beard hairs grow in different directions? The key is not to shave against the direction of the growth. In order to get a close shave, it is very important that the preparation stage for shaving is done correctly if a close shave is desired.

Shaving against the growth of the hair will give you a closer shave, but you increase the risk of nicks and cuts many fold and if you have acne, this can get rather bloody.

So, here?s how to get it right from the start.

Before we start, shave in the shower. The warm water will open the facial pores soften both the stubbles and the skin and this promotes a better, closer shave. Also, there is less risk of nicks and cuts if your skin is warmed by the hot water in the shower.

Ok, let?s get stated:

Step 1 ? Use an exfoliant; this gets rid of dead skin cells, which lifts your stubble and gives a closer shave, leafing your skin smooth and looking well groomed.

Wildcrafted?s Skin Renewal Gel is perfect for this job, because the herbs and essential oils contained in this product help not only to remove dead skin cells, but also nourishes the skin and provides nutrients the skin can utilise.

Step 2 ? Prepare the canvas; use the Vitalising Shaving Gel. This product combines pre-shave oiling of the skin and a shaving cr?me. Not only do you provide lubrication so the razor glides easily over the skin, but the essential oils in this product have antiseptic properties, so you reduce the risk of infections in the event of nicks or cuts from shaving. This helps you to get a smooth shave and the lubricating oils prevent nicks and cuts. Once you have applied the Vitalising Shaving Gel to your face, work it into lather and then start shaving.

Step 3 ? Shaving; the best razor is one that lets you use a light stroke and you don?t need to push down too hard. Gillette?s M3 fits the bill, but there are other?s of similar quality. Using a brush to apply the Vitalising Shaving Gel will help lift the bristles and allow you to shave even closer, but your hands will do the job just fine.

If you use an electric shaver, it is still to your advantage to shave after you?ve had a shower, because the skin is warm, softer and the stubble are easier to shave off. Some of the newer electric shavers you can now use under the shower too ? so take advantage of that and use the benefits of the ?hot water?.

Step 4 ? Nicks and cuts? The Vitalising Shaving Gel, which leaves a residue on your skin even after you have finished shaving, contains essential oils which disinfect and help repair the skin. Just leave it on your face while you finish having a shower and then rinse it off.

Step 5 ? Moisturise. This is a must. After you have finished your shower, apply the Ginseng Hydrator specific for your skin type ? remember you may need to use more than one if you have two different skin types. If you have a shiny skin, use the Ginseng Hydrator for Oily skin, if it looks dry and or dull, use the Ginseng Hydrator for Dry skin, else use the one for Normal skin.

Step 6 ? Restore; once or twice a week, use a natural clay mask to help your skin heal from the taxing process of shaving. The Earth Medicine Facial Clay range contains soothing minerals and oils to calm shaving irritation. It also helps to remove toxins that build up in the skin, especially if you suffer from acne.

If you are using an electric razor, all the steps except for Step 3 still apply. Using an electric razor can cause your skin to be quite itchy and using a moisturiser that sooths the irritated skin is very important.

So there you have it. Shaving can be easy and painless, as long as you follow the steps above, you should not have any trouble getting your stubbles under control. Remember, use the shower to shave, it really does help immensely as well as save you time, and it helps you to do a better job.

Different Ways of Dealing With Acne

Types of Acne

Acne is a general term used to describe the result of plugged pores on the face, back, or chest. Generally characterized by red bumps and whiteheads, acne also includes blackheads and lumps that form beneath the skin.

The following conditions are generally referred to as acne, but each condition has particular traits.

Comedo ? The condition when a sebaceous follicle becomes clogged with a combination of sebum (released from the sebaceous gland under the skin), dead skin cells, tiny hairs, dirt, oil, and bacteria. When the comedo is open and exposed to oxygen from the air, it becomes dark in appearance, forming what is commonly known as a blackhead. A closed comedo forms a small bump beneath the skin, and takes on a skin tone or slightly white appearance, commonly known as a whitehead.

Papule ? A small, solid bump that elevates slightly above the skin surface. Typically the coloring of a papule matches that of the skin. Several papules grouped together are rough to the tough, having an almost sandpaper type feel to them.

Pustule ? A small, fluid filled bump that elevates above the skin surface and is topped by puss. This bump is filled with a mixture of white blood cells, bacteria, sebum, and dead skin cells.

Nodule ? Similar to a papule, nodules are solid bumps that elevate slightly above the skin. The main difference is that a nodule also develops deep into skin layers and is one of the leading causes of scaring from acne. This type of acne can be very painful and is more difficult to treat than other forms.

Cyst - Similar to a pustule, a cyst is a fluid filled bump that elevates above the skin and is topped by puss. A cyst is also filled with a mixture of white blood cells, bacteria, sebum, and dead skin cells and becomes severely inflamed. A cyst will form deeper into the skin layers and can be quite painful and is the other leading cause of scaring from acne. Like nodule acne, a cyst can be difficult to treat.

Macule ? The red or pinkish spot left after an acne lesion has healed. Depending on the severity of the initial lesion, the discoloration may last for a few days to a few weeks before subsiding.

The problem is, most people lump all these various types of acne into one group, and just call it acne. This wouldn?t be an issue, except that they each react differently to various forms of treatment, and what works for one will not necessarily work for all.

This is further complicated because some people experience more than one form of acne at a time. It is very common to have both a pustule outbreak, and a cystic outbreak simultainously.

Because of these facts about acne, treatment is not always simple and straightforward. Benzoyl peroxide, or tea tree oil are usually a safe bet when first trying to treat acne. Some people will never need anything more than this. However, for those of you who have tried 1, several, or many treatments without success, it may be helpful to determine the types of acne you suffer from, and treat each type as suggested by a dermatologist.

Again, there is no 100% acne fix. However, knowing the type of acne you suffer from can help you find a treatment that will work best for you.

Acne Scars And Chemical Peeling

Acne Scars can be easily removed with Chemical peeling. this method has been used since years for not only removing acne scars but also other skin blemishes and discolorations. With Chemical peeling doctors remove the layers of skin with chemicals. With the new skin forming the earlier blemishes disappear. Let us find out about how acne scars are treated with chemical peeling.

Acne scars- Keloids:

Keloids cannot be generally removed with peeling. Keloid type scars form in some individuals. Keloids are skin growths that are full of collagen and look very unsightly. Whenever a person who forms keloids gets any injury the scars form keloids. No doctor generally tries to remove keloids because the scar healing may form more of them.

Ice pick and saucer type acne scars-

Other acne scars are normally ice pick type and saucer type. These scars can be easily treated with chemical peeling. Your doctor will assess the depth of the scar and try to remove skin up to that level. As the new skin will form there will be little scarring left. For chemical peeling, the doctors apply a chemical on the site and the chemical peels away the skin in a controlled manner over sometime. Redness and swelling may result with deep peeling. The skin heals over about ten days and new skin forms. Learn more about Chemical Peeling and If you have acne scars, please find out with your doctor about the possibility of removing them with chemical peeling.

Natural Skin Care Products

Natural skin care products are health and beauty products that use only botantical ingredients. No synthetic materials or chemicals, including perfume, dyes or artificial colourings are used to create these products. Most often, natural skin care products are not tested on animals and are non-sensitizing to the skin. They are easily available nowadays in many shops set up in response to rising demand and consumer affluence.

Many skin care chemists use skin nourishing oils in their formula but blend them with them with various synthetics. Some of these chemicals unfortunately limit the effect of the natural ingredients. They also prevent the natural evaporation of moisture from the skin and their prolonged use removes sebum from the skin. The skin becomes dry and can become irritated. For people who are prone to skin irritations, such products may not be suitable.

So what ingredients are you likely to find in natural skin care products? Here are a couple of examples:

* Aloe vera ? This is a common base used in lotions and gels in products applied to all parts of the body. Gentle and healing, it has a softening and smoothening affect on dry skin.

* Baking soda ? This adds smooth texture to lotions for the face and the body. It is also a pH stabilizer.

* Beeswax ? This is a great base with a pleasant smell for body butters, face masks, salves, hair masks, and more.

* Coconut oil, almond oil ? These are bases as well for various shampoos and added to body lotions and bath beads.

* Citric acid ? This is a naturally occurring preservative and used as a base for bath fizzes and 'scrubs.'

* Emulsifying wax ? This comes from fats and esters and helps keep natural skin care products from separating.

* Lecithin powder and liquid ? The powder form is a thickener for lotions and is a mild preservative. The liquid form is more easily blended in certain oils than its powdered cousin and also acts as a mild preservative.

* Sea salt ? This is a great base for scrubs and also used to add texture to face washes.

* Stearic acid ? Found in animal and vegetable fats, this is an emulsifying agent that lends a cooling effect and a waxy feel to lotions and deodorants.

Are natural skin care products better than mainstream products? Many times, natural skin care products work better than synthetic. But they are likely to cost more in most cases; not unless you make them yourselves from home made recipes. However, natural skin care products made from home made recipes usually cannot be kept beyond 3 days. So, you may need to continually update your supplies.

If you have dry or acne skin, then it is more important to choose wisely, despite the costs. Take your time trying out different natural skin care products until you find the one that is right for you and your skin.

Herbal Acne Treatments That Work

In the United States alone, there are over 40 Million people who struggle with acne. Many of these people treat acne using chemicals such as antibiotics, prescription drugs, benzoyl peroxide, and salicylic acid.

However, there is a growing number of people who choose herbal acne treatments over traditional medications. Usually, herbal medications have far fewer side effects, and are not as dangerous as some of the prescription drugs.

The problem however, is that the United States does very little to regulate the herbal supplement industry. Unlike traditional chemical medications, herbal medications are not required to be clinically proven to work, or even to be safe. An example of this lack of regulation recently came to light with ephedra related deaths, and ephedras subsequent ban.

This lack of regulation results in many different acne products on the market. All of which claim to heal, prevent, or even cure acne with few, if any, side effects.

The truth is, there are very few herbal acne treatments that are scientifically proven to work. Traditional chemical treatments are still the most effective in stopping acne.

There are only 2 herbal treatments that have been clinically proven to help stop acne, tea tree oil and green tea cream.

Tea tree oil is a natural oil, derived from the Melaleuca alternifolia, a particular type of tea tree found exclusively in Australia. While it has been used from hundreds of years by the native aboriginals as a treatment for just about anything, it has only recently been accepted by modern medicine as being a viable anti-bacterial agent.

Even though tea tree oil has been suspected as an anti-bacterial agent for some time, A groundbreakings study was conducted in 1990 by I.B. Bassett, which compared tea tree oil to benzoyl peroxide in the treatment of acne. It was found that tea tree oil is as effective as a 5% benzoyl peroxide solution. It takes longer (6 weeks) for the tea tree oil to be as effective, but participants in the study reported none of the side effects associated with benzoyl peroxide, such as redness, skin irritation, or dry skin.

This study has helped tea tree oil become a recognized and legitimate herbal acne treatment. However, there is no need to purchase an expensive cream that contains tea tree oil. Just applying several drops of the oil directly on the acne has shown to be the most effective way to apply tea tree oil.

This was the only herbal acne treatment that had been proven to work until recently, when Dr. Jennifer Gan-Wong conducted a study that shows green tea can also effectively fight acne.

Dr. Gan-Wong compared a green tea cream with 3% green tea, to a 4% benzoyl peroxide solution, and found that the results in treating acne where the same for both the tea and the peroxide. These results were recently presented at the 2003 annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology.

These findings are relatively recent, and are not yet corroborated by additional independent studies. However, this evidence does demonstrate that the natural anti-bacterial properties of green tea can be effective to treat acne.

For those of you who are confused by the plethora of herbal acne treatments available, there really are only 2 that have been proven to be effective in fighting acne. Green tea cream, and tea tree oil. While many other herbal acne treatments may be good to moisturize the skin, or reduce oils, these are the only two that should be considered truly effective acne treatments.

Acne Treatment

Most people have acne at one time or another. This common skin complaint has left many individuals hunting for an effective acne treatment that can be used by a large number of people. Pimples are not selective; they tend to appear on any individual and everywhere. This gives researchers a worthwhile goal in discovering the ideal acne treatment.

Something which must be considered is the purpose for the skin clearing strategy. There are differing approaches for acne treatment, each with its own considered purpose. The typical main purposes behind acne treatments are to clear the skin from lesions and breakouts and to treat scarring. These are the most significant motives for discovering the best approach.

The first intention of clearing the skin from lesions and breakouts is possibly the more popular reason behind finding the best acne treatment. One rule of thumb is to only wash the area affected by acne twice each day. An excess of washing can irritate the skin and cause the acne to worsen.

Many doctors suggest a medication applied directly to the affected area. There are many topical medicines designed as acne treatment. These products exfoliate the skin. The upper layer of skin is often covered with dead cells that work to obstruct the pores. When the skin is exfoliated, the dead layer of skin is washed away, leaving a fresh new layer that will not cause obstruction.

The topical acne treatment is also intended to remove oils and bacteria that are present in pimples. The topical medicine pulls the dirt and oil out of the pores, helping the affected area to heal quickly. These types of acne treatments are also effective in decreasing inflammation associated with many acne breakouts. The reduction of redness and swelling makes the pimples less evident.

After the skin is cleared, a lot of people find themselves carrying around a few scars. Another purpose for acne treatment is to stop or even heal acne scarring. Because acne scars frequently vary in significance, the approaches vary as well. Some are quite basic while others are quite invasive. The individual chooses which acne treatment is best suited, according to the severity of the scarring.

Dermabrasion is an example of a relatively simple approach to treating shallow scars. The skin is treated with a rotating brush that removes the surface scars. The chemical peel is an acne treatment that removes scars using chemicals that slather off the scarred skin.

More invasive approaches include scar excisions that remove the scar and pull the healthy skin together, and also punch grafting. Punch grafting involves removing the scar with a surgical hole-punch. The open plug where the scar originally was is filled with a plug of new skin. It is hoped that in the future an acne treatment will be designed that will eliminate the requirement for surgical approaches to acne scar removal, but for now these are very valuable for those suffering from acne scars.

Natural Acne Treatment: How to Treat Acne Naturally and Effectively

Many individuals are looking for a natural acne treatment. They may be doing so because their chemical products have not worked. Or, even worse, these chemical products may have done damage to their skin far worse then the acne. Chemical products often come with side effects that natural acne treatments do not. For this reason and many others, selecting a natural cure for acne seems to be the logical way to go.

What Is Natural?

A natural cure for acne will be one that has products in it that are not man made but naturally occurring in the world. These products can be virtually anything as long as they are non toxic to the body. Many natural acne skin care products are the best for your body as the body already knows how to work with these natural substances and therefore can be better suited for you.

What?s Available Then?

There are several natural products available to help individuals to remove acne. These products range in what they are and how they are used so it is important for you to know how to use them properly. Most of the acne skin care treatments available will include a number of different vitamins, proteins and natural acids. Some may contain zinc as it is well known for being effective in the treatment of acne. Some will include Chromium as this too has been shown to help. In most cases, there will be a combination of products that work together at treating the acne.

Why Is It There?

One thing that is important to consider when treating acne is why it is there in the first place. When you find this out, you are better able to find an acne treatment that will work for your specific condition. There are two main causes of acne that have a lot to do with each other. First off, acne skin care treatments may attack the bacteria that are on the face causing the infection which is the acne itself. But, these bacteria will likely be attracted to the skin because of the high amount of oils there. Some individuals have glands that are working overtime to produce and this provides bacteria the ultimate place to live. Most acne skin care products need to work on both aspects of turning off the oil and getting rid of the acne.

The best natural acne treatment is the one that is well suited to your specific situation. Yet, it is ideal for you to use natural products as they are the best suited, in most cases, to provide you with a fighting chance against acne.

Skin Cancer Do You Visit Tanning Salons?

One of the main causes of skin cancer is exposure to harmful sun rays. If you thought that getting tanned at tanning salons was safer than the sun, please think again before visiting any salon again. Tanning beds and sunlamps are as dangerous as the sun rays.

Most of the bulbs used in the salons emit both UVA and UVB radiations that are also found in the sunlight and are responsible for both Melanoma and Nonmelonoma types of cancers. Exposure to tanning bulbs also reduces our body's ability to repair the damaged DNA, which is caused by UV radiation.

Tanning not only may cause cancers as the last damage but also prematurely ages the skin. How many of us realize that tanning is body's response to damage to the skin. every time, you get tanned , you accumulate skin damage. There is no such thing as safe tanning.

Unfortunately the cosmetic trends are pushing more women to tanning salons. More people are inviting cancer for the sake of the tanned look. Melanoma can kill if not diagnosed earlier. Work and AsbestosRelated Diseases Part One

Symptoms of lung cancer, asbestosis or other asbestos - related diseases may include chronic cough and hoarseness, wheezing, chest pain, weight loss, fatigue, loss of appetite, dysphonia, coughing up blood and shortness of breath.

If you think that you may have an asbestos - related disease because you worked exposed to asbestos many years and you show any of the symptoms above mentioned, you should visit a specialist doctor to be explored by him and decide whether you need more exams or not.

The doctor may send you for a chest x-ray or chest computed tomography (CT) scan, to determine the existence of lung scars, and pulmonary function test (PFT), to measure the power of your breathing.

Workers with asbestos benign diseases should visit their doctors regularly, because they have higher risks of getting ill of more serious cancer pathology. Therefore, these patients may be send to specialists like a lung expert or an occupational health doctor. (note: other specialists could be helpful too).

Overall, these workers can keep working, but if they do not feel sick, as research states that these patients will avoid more harm to their lungs if the amount of asbestos dust is kept low.

But if the doctor thinks that is better to have no more contact with asbestos or if you have another illness or disability, you may not be able to keep working.

Is so difficult to say you do not must to work on asbestos related jobs, because you need to work if you want to pay the bills, but in this case your decision could have many risks. On the other hand, there is many alternatives for asbestos compensations, so you need to find an specialist lawyer in this subject, this could be very useful if you decided not to be asbestos worker any more.

Facial Acne Time to Consult a Dermatologist?

At some point in most of our lives, we?ve all pondered on this question: When it is time to consult a dermatologist? Although there?s no definitive answer to the question, there are several indicators that should trigger someone to make their decision. Teenagers with acne, for instance, may have a difficult time dealing with teen acne. Although this type of acne is hormonal, and usually passes, it can get very severe. If you are a teenager or are the parents of a teenager with mild to severe acne, it may be time to consult a dermatologist. Especially if you notice acne scars related to inflamed acne, or redness and swelling which cause acne scars. The idea is to consult a dermatologist before or at the sight of an acne scar.

But teenagers aren?t the only ones who face acne problems. Adults too, struggle with acne of various different reasons. Acne during pregnancy is quote common, as is acne during sickness, acne during hormonal imbalance, acne from poor hygienic habits, and hereditary acne. Should you consult a dermatologist? What type of acne indicates when a dermatologist is needed? It really depends on the severity of the matter. If your acne is out of control, painful, scarring, or very red, you may opt to consult a dermatologist. Especially if the acne problem is ongoing. Now if you just noticed an isolated pimple on your face for the first time, chances are no, you do not need the professional services of acne treatment from a dermatologist.

Acne solutions should be sought after prior to deciding on the services of a dermatologist. Is there something that you can do to control your acne? Are you doing something to contribute to white heads, blackheads, or acne outbreaks? Most likely not. Acne is caused by a buildup of oil and dirt in the skin pores, most often caused by DHT in the skin. Hormonal changes can cause an increase in DHT buildup, which causes the pore to secrete more oils. Once the pore becomes completely clogged, bacteria sets in and the blackhead is created. To combat against this, find an acne solution that attacks the buildup of DHT, and thus lowers the amount of excess oil produced in the oils, thereby eliminating the clogged pore over time.

Start thinking of your facial acne as a warning sign. Remember, a dermatologist is your last solution for an acne problem. Only you can be the judge of how light, mild, or severe your acne is. After that, it?s time to get proactive.

Acne: Do You Have One?

Have you experienced a swelling in your skin? And then you tried to pop it? Well after reading this you must now think twice before popping that swell. Because that swell may be acne.

Acne is common to people nowadays. Acne is also known as pimples or more scientifically, vulgaris. It is caused when your pores get clogged causing an accumulation of fatty material from your oil gland or sebaceous gland.

Not all your pores are affected by acne. The reason for this is still a mystery. Because of the accumulation in the pores, a swell may eventually appear which is known as blackheads or whiteheads. Blackheads are not caused by dirt but by the chemical reaction of the fatty material in the pores with the air. Air causes the discoloration of the fatty material causing a black ?bump?.

Acne has many different types along with different superstitious beliefs, theories and treatments. These different types of treatments may work for others but not on you because of acne?s complexity. So, don?t just believe on what your friends tell you or what the TV commercial promises with your acne. Those may just be one of theories and superstitious beliefs.

We already know about the physical effects of acne (When you pop it its causes more acnes or worse it becomes a life-long scar), but how about its psychological effects? Teenagers with acne tend to have lower self-confidence that leads to their feeling of isolation and being awkward to their peers with clear skin. Acnes made people cry, and angry. Thousands of people each year are afflicted by it, and it makes recluses out of a good many teenagers.

Teens are not the only one suffering from acne, adult acne is also common nowadays. Unlike teen?s acne, adult acne is due to the changes that our skin goes through as we mature. Scars caused by acnes in adults are more severe than the scars of teens with acne. Adults, unlike teens are less likely to find treatment to their acnes, leaving them to suffer alone.

Acne has two main categories. It can be inflammatory acne or non-inflammatory acne. Whether if you?re an adult or a teen, your acne may fall to one of these categories.

Blackheads and whiteheads are signs of non-inflammatory acne. Unlike non-inflammatory acnes, inflammatory acnes are harder to identify. Some symptoms of inflammatory acnes may be papules, pustules and in more severe cases, nodules or cysts.

You can look for different kinds of treatments once you already know on what category your acne falls. Always remember that if a certain treatment didn?t work for your acne, you can always try some other treatments. The technology nowadays, has given rise to new treatments. Researchers are now developing some new treatments that might be the one your waiting for and might give you the clear skin your longing for.

Another treatment which may be more effective is that avoid grain products such as bread, corn, cereals and pastries. Also, don?t forget to always drink your vitamins because it may just help you with acne. But still, these methods may not work for you. Maybe, you should just use your own judgment in treating your acne or just consult your dermatologist.

Now, do you still want to pop that swell?

Make Up in 2 Minutes

Make up does wonder to the overall image. It makes the face polished and pretty looking. I have met one too many women who told me they have no time for make up application. These women are definitely at a disadvantage in the job market, because women who put make up on, makes about 35% more than those who don?t.

A perfect make up application has many steps. However, some days, women have to wake up and run out for work, with no time for breakfast or a long make up routine. If you are a busy woman with no time in the morning, follow this quick make up routine that will guarantee you looking simple and fresh.

These are the tools and make up you must have on hand ? face powder, big powder brush, lipstick, eyelash curler, mascara and concealer.

Be sure the concealer is a shade lighter than your face. By the time it covers the dark blemish, the colour of the coverage will be very close to your natural skin tone. The face powder colour is to match your own face colour. Use a lipstick that is a shade or two darker than your lips ? for radiance. As for mascara ? if you are a brunette, you may choose very dark brown to black. However, if you are blond or very fair, use taupe or medium brown instead for more harmony.

Here are the steps for a 2 minute make up application:

1. Wash, tone and moisturize your face, apply sunscreen, then put some lipbalm on the lips.

2. Dab on concealer using your finger tip ? preferably your ring finger. Dab it on on any blemishes you have, as well as on your undereye circles. Blend well.

3. Dust on face powder with a big fluffy powder brush.

4. Put on lipstick.

5. Curl your eyelashes, sweep on mascara.

Voila - simple and fresh. Now you are ready to rush out!

Skin Cancer: Keep Your Skin Safe

There's more to prevention than you think

Statistics surrounding skin cancer are astounding. More than one million new cases are diagnosed each year, more than all other cancers combined. This means that one in five people will have skin cancer in their lifetime. Despite this high number, Americans understand very little about how to prevent skin cancer, and actually take preventative measures even less. Understanding the types, cause, risks, and prevention of skin cancer is the best way to combat this potentially deadly disease.

The two most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma which are usually curable. The third type, melanoma, is much more dangerous and one of the most common cancers in young adults.

Ninety percent of skin cancer is caused by the sun's rays, with UVA rays affecting the genetics of the skin and UVB rays altering the outside layers. Sun exposure in childhood can dramatically increase a person's chance of getting skin cancer. One blistering sunburn in childhood can as much as double the risk of melanoma, the most deadly type of skin cancer, later in life. Childhood is also the part of life which holds the greatest sun exposure for most people. Most parents protect their children from the sun during the summer, or on a trip to the beach, but for children especially, every day is an opportunity to experience the damaging rays of the sun. It is important to protect against the sun's UVA and UVB rays year round.

Risks of skin cancer increase in certain ethnic and age groups. Those with fair skin, blue or green eyes, light colored hair are more susceptible to skin cancer. As are those who burn or freckle easily. However, even those with dark skin can get melanoma and in those rarer cases, it proves to be more deadly. Age also affects a person's risk of skin cancer. In white men over 50, melanoma is the most common kind of cancer, even more common than cancer of the prostate, colon, or lung.

Prevention of skin cancer seems pretty straightforward to most people. Stay out of the sun, and when you can't, wear protective clothing and sunblock. It's not quite that easy. To be effective, sunblock should be above SPF (sun protection factor) 15 and should be reapplied liberally at least every 2 hours. All sunblocks are not created equal. Look for sunblock that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and apply it 15 minutes before heading outside. Even with good sunblock applied well, UV rays can still reach the skin. This is why experts recommend staying out of the sun during the most dangerous, midday rays. Also, cover up with a wide brimmed hat, tightly woven clothing, and sunglasses with UV protection to protect your eyes. Try to avoid UV rays outside and inside, including tanning beds.

Although skin cancer is incredibly common, understanding the types, causes, risks, and especially prevention can help you and your family avoid this dangerous disease that affects one in five people. Be Sun Smart!

Skin Cancer Prevention Could Fish in Your Diet Make a Difference?

Deramatology Researchers at Hope Hospital, Salford, Manchester have uncovered exciting evidence that oily fish in your diet could help in the prevention of skin cancer.

Omega 3 oils in fish have long been associated with health benefits in conditions such as poor concentration in children and protection against heart disease and dementia, but it now appears that these essential fatty acids protect the skin against the DNA damage that can cause skin cancer.

Sun burn is a major factor in the development of skin cancer. Fair skinned people are particularly susceptible and sun burn increases the chances of developing skin cancer at a later date.

The research consisted of a group of 42 healthy people being given a fish oil supplement that would be the equivalent of three portions of oily fish a week.

After one month, they were less likely to burn and after three months, their resistance had risen to 33% less likely.

A group of people who suffered from sun allergy doubled their defence after 6 months.

These groups were measured against a third group who had been given olive oil which had no effect.

The protection derived from the change in diet would be equivalent to a permanent mild sun screen but would not protect against fierce sun.

Many people only apply sun screen if they're officially sunbathing and then it can be patchy.

Serious damage can happen in as little as 15 minutes - maybe walking to the shops or taking the dog out - doing a bit of gardening - how many of us would bother to put sun screen on for those tasks?

In the UK, skin cancer rates have doubled every decade since 1940 and there are now around 100,000 new cases and 2000 deaths a year. These increases are reflected in pale skinned people all around the world.

Much of the increase in the UK has been put down to more people taking holidays abroad and exposing themselves to excessive sun. However, there are many days in the UK when it would be advisable to protect ourselves but because the climate is mild overall, we don't bother.

Increasing oily fish in your diet is easy - even canned fish (apart from tuna) retains the omega 3s, so salmon, mackerel, sardines and the like can all be used straight from the can.

Now is the right time to make the change in the Northern Hemisphere, so you'll have the additional protection by next summer.

Natural Acne Products

Acne sufferers have a choice between medicated and natural acne products.

In contrast to medicated products which contain low to high concentration of Benzoyl peroxide or Salicylic acid, natural acne products make use of herbs and natural oils such as Tea Tree Oil, an antibacterial and cleansing agent; Lavender Oil, acne countering and preventing oil; and Rosewood Oil, an effective acne treating agent.

Like medicated products, natural products come as cleansers, scrubs, masks, gels, natural oils, and even herbal tablets.

ZEN MED Derma Cleanse System is a natural product that has cleansing gel for unclogging and cleaning pores, and herbal capsules to flush out harmful bacteria and replenish essential vitamins to fight acne from within. Enriched with essential Tree Tea Oil, Aloe Vera, Vitamin A, E, D3, C, Pro-Vitamin B5, Allatoin, and other vegetable ingredients, it is extremely effective against acne.

Among topical creams and gels, PhytoMe and Kiss My Face are two effective products for acne prevention. PhytoMe Acne Gel, made up of natural oils, vitamins, and herbs, treats acne and is suitable for all skins. Kiss My Face Botanical Acne Gel is a very efficient over-night treatment gel made up of essential oils.

Some natural acne products like Actimine, AcnEase, Xian 100% Acne Treatment, and 10 1E Acne Getaway are made up of ancient Chinese herbs and other essential ingredients suited to fight and prevent acne.

Prominent among natural cleansers and toners are Desert Essence 100% Pure Australian Tea Tree Oil, Burt?s Bees Garden Tomato Toner for Oily and Troubled Skin, and St Ives Facial Foaming Cleanser, which has Tree Tea Oil with Glycerin and hence cleanses skin without drying it.

Bio Skin Care?s Elicina Cream is a natural cream composed of vitamins, Allantoin, and proteins, which gently gets rid of dead cells and treats scars, leaving behind blemish-free skin.

Unlike Benzoyl peroxide, which produces dryness in sensitive skin, natural acne products while treating acne, also prevent too much drying. Natural acne products have been found to be equally effective as the medicated ones in treating acne. A wide array exists in the market. So, pick up the one, which suits your skin, the best.

Acne Skin Care Tips

Most aghast teenagers address acne eruptions by manically scrubbing and dieting under the mistaken assumption that the problem is somehow related to poor hygiene or improper nutrition. While avoiding those cheeseburgers is definitely commendable for other health-related reasons, it is going to have no effect on the acne. As for skin hygiene ? while increased cleansing is definitely called for, laying on a face wash of harsh toothpaste with a pumice stone is hardly constructive.

Another mistaken assumption is that astringents will discourage excess oil secretion. Astringents clean off superficial oils while causing the skin to contract, thereby clogging pores and causing long-term aggravation for short-term cosmetic benefits. The best course of action is using a mild cleansing agent to wash down the entire face, not just the fabled T zone or only acne-affected areas and regular shampooing of the hair. Oily hair will directly translate into facial oiliness, especially in people with chin or shoulder-length hair.

Most importantly, picking at or rubbing acne blemishes must be strictly avoided, since this can lead to permanent scarring and skin discoloration that will require measures like laser treatment to correct later on. Excessive exposure to sunlight is also a definite no-no, especially if one is using a compound like trenitoin that increases the skin?s photosensitivity. For that reason, tanning lamps must also be given a wide berth.

Females affected with acne must rigorously scan the contents of their cosmetics before using them ? only those without an oily base and with the tag ?noncomedogenic? (non-obstructing to skin pores) on the label should be used. Finally, sports headgear such as headbands and cycling helmets as well as fashion accessories that result in constriction or irritation of facial skin must be avoided.

Acne can be treated and prevented by following these steps. It is likely that everyone will have at least one acne outbreak in their lives, but it need not be a cause for alarm.

Are Redheads More Prone to Skin Cancer?

Everyone knows that redhead sunburn easier. But do they get skin cancer easier? New research indicates that the pigment in their skin may instigate cancer even if they don?t suffer from sunburns. As you may have heard, getting sunburns in childhood is a risk factor for skin cancer, even later in life.

Who is prone to sunburn? Of course if you have light colored eyes, hair and skin, you are at higher risk. This combination is frequent among redheads. Redheads have a different type of melanin than people with dark hair. Blondes even carry some of the same pigments as redheads.

Duke University said that the melanin in redheads is more vulnerable to damage from the sun?s UV rays. Redheads, under exposure to the sun, developed a reaction of oxidative stress. This is where damage to DNA and cells may occur and over time, form cancer. Research used UVA and UVB rays for testing. UVA can cause damage without burning.

Sunscreens protect against UVB, but its not been shown to help against UVA. Sure, some protection is there, but the FDA will need to set guidelines for consumers. It all boils down to this: wear sunscreen and put it on your kids.

Here?s what you do:

  • Apply plenty of sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher and reapply every 2 hours or as indicated on the bottle.
  • Reapply after swimming, sweating, even drying with a towel.
  • Apply even during cloudy days.
  • Avoid the sun in the middle of the day. 10 and 4 is indoor time.
  • Wear a hat, clothing and sunglasses.
  • Take care of the kids. Overexposure early in life may lead to skin cancers later in life.
  • Even so, the FDA has a warning label:

Warning -This product does not contain a sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn. Repeated exposure of unprotected skin while tanning may increase the risk of skin aging, skin cancer, and other harmful effects to the skin even if you do not burn.

Simple and Effective Ways to Control Acne

Acne control include unclogging the pores of the skin, destroying bacteria and reducing excessive oil, or, in other words, Prevention.

As the saying goes an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure

With this in mind, what then are the best ways to prevent and control acne?

First of all remember the basics of healthy living- nourish your body with good food, consume 6-8 glasses of water per day and try to get enough shut eye (8-9 hours is highly recommended).

A method of controlling acne that is not widely known is to take fish oil supplements on a regular basis.

Fish oils contain EPA and DHA fatty acids as well as omega-3 and omega-6 oils.

These essential elements create prostaglandins in the human body.

Prostaglandins are chemical hormones and they serve to maintain optimum functioning in all of the body's organs and cells.

They keep androgen hormones, which cause the production of excessive oil, in check.

Using mild soap-free cleansers such as Cetaphil, Dove, Purpose or Neutrogena helps keep the skin clear of dirt and surface impurities.

Exfoliating creams and masques are also good for acne control as they work to gently peel away dead skin cells. But make sure you don't choose one that is overly abrasive.

Using an astringent or toner to rid your face of excessive oil is an effective way to control acne as is using topical solutions containing benzoyl peroxide or sulfur.

Some acne sufferers find products with benzoyl peroxide to be harsh or excessively drying to their skin.

Stress is a contributing factor in acne growth so try to keep it to a minimum.

Too much stress becomes a vicious circle in that pressure triggers the production of more oil which ultimately causes more skin problems and the acne that results tends to stress out the sufferer even more.

    Acne and Its Treatment

Acne is a menace. However, it?s not something that cannot be tackled. There are loads of acne skin care products around. We can classify acne skin care products into 3 broad categories ?

    1. Preventive or general acne skin care products
    2. Over-the-counter, specialised acne skin care products
    3. On-prescription acne skin care products.

The general acne skin care products are the ones that are used as acne-prevention measure. These include cleansers, make-up removers and similar products that help prevent acne. In the real sense, these acne skin care products are just those that should anyway be part of your daily routine. However, some of these are more oriented to act like an acne skin care product. These acne skin care products act against the causes of acne e.g. limiting the production of sebum/oil and preventing clogging of skin pores. Basically, these acne skin care products prevent the oil from getting trapped in pores and hence hamper the growth of bacteria that lead to acne. The general acne skin care products also include exfoliation products like skin peels. These work towards removing dead skin cells, hence reducing the possibility of pore-clogging and bacteria development.

Then there are specialised acne skin care products that are available over-the-counter i.e. without the need of a prescription. These include products like vanishing creams which extract the extra oil from the skin. Most of these acne skin care products are based on benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are the enemies of bacteria (and hence acne). You should start with a product that has lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5%) and see how your skin responds to it. Alpha-hydroxy-acid based moisturizers are also popular as acne skin care products. You might have to try a few, before you zero-in on the acne skin care product that is effective for you. If nothing seems to work, you should contact a dermatologist.

On-prescription acne skin care products are the ones that are prescribed by a dermatologist. This can include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical treatment. Dermatologist could also suggest a minor surgical procedure to remove the contents of pustules. However, never try to squeeze or do this by yourself, it can lead to permanent damage of your skin. Your doctor could also prescribe a hormone-based treatment (since hormonal changes are also known to cause acne). Such acne skin care products are known to be very effective in some cases.

So, with all those acne skin care products, tackling acne is not that difficult.

    Options in Acne Treatment

Acne treatment is one of the most common requests dermatologists hear from their patients. The condition generally begins in the teenage years, but can affect people into their thirties and forties. Blemishes often cause people to avoid social situations and, in extreme cases, can lead to feelings of depression.

The exact cause of acne is not known, but there are several theories. One is that break outs tend to be hereditary. If parents and siblings suffer from it, you may too. Another is that the hormones that surge through the body in puberty cause the sebaceous glands to increase in size and produce more oils. This leads to an increase in blemishes. Other hormonal causes include pregnancy, menstruation and birth control pills.

Although the exact cause of this skin condition is unknown, there are factors that can aggravate it. Squeezing a blemish can spread bacteria and cause more break outs on your face. Excessive humidity and sweating can also spread bacteria and aggravate the condition.

There are several myths surrounding acne. Stress is thought to cause acne, but it does not. However, the stress you feel as a result of the pimples is real. Consider relaxation techniques, reading the bible and prayer as a way to reduce this stress. Other myths include diet and having dirty skin.

Proper skin care can help prevent the spread of acne. Improper skin care can actually make blemishes worse. Excessive scrubbing with harsh cleansers is drying, causes irritations and can create more pimples. Use a gentle cleanser no more than twice a day, if your skin is excessively oily, you can wash three times. Look for a gentle cleanser that is made for your skin type. Salicylic acid is a good ingredient to look for.

Don?t use astringent unless you have very oily skin. Astringents can dry out the skin and make it worse. You may be tempted to skip the moisturizer, but don?t do this. Your skin needs moisture. Choose a product that is made for people who are prone to pimples. Look for an oil free, non acnegenic lotion.

Dermatologists can help with acne treatment. Topical ointments and oral medications can be prescribed for extreme cases. Many of these prescriptions can cause photosensitivity. You should always wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, if you go in the sun while using prescription medications. For maximum rejuvenation, your doctor may recommend a chemical peel.

In the past, you could only have a peel in the dermatologist?s office. Now there is a home treatment alternative. Esthetician?s Choice is a medical grade peel that you can use in the comfort of your home. The main ingredient is Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) which is considered to be the most effective skin peel product on the market. TCA is a non toxic chemical that has been used by dermatologists for over 30 years to treat acne and other skin conditions.

Peels exfoliate the skin on a deeper level than can be achieved with most other skin care products. Easy to follow, step by step directions allow you to perform the peel easily at home. Esthetician?s Choice takes only minutes to apply. You may experience a slight reddening for a day or tow and the skin will continue to peel, revealing clearer skin underneath.

You will notice results quickly, unlike topical ointments and medications, which can take months to see results. Use the peel full strength for a deeper peel, or you can dilute it for surface exfoliation. Visit www.bestskinpeel.com to learn more about this remarkable product, which is guaranteed to give you the results you want.

Skin Cancer Early Treatment Wins the Game

Skin cancer can happen to anyone and those at risk need to be smart and seek professional advice and/or early treatment. This makes sense of course but how do you know if you are at risk? Well if you work in an industry were you are exposed a lot to the sun you could be at risk.

If you get sunburns quite easily or have very light skin you would be more susceptible. Also if you have blue or green eyes or have blond or red hair you will be slightly more at risk. One of the most obvious things to think about is if you have skin cancer, which runs in your family. If you have a lot of moles you may wish to have a doctor look at them to see if they are the type that can become cancerous. Children who have had very bad skin burns in their past could be at risk as adults.

    All doctors agree on one thing and that is of all the major types of skin cancer, early detection and treatment is your best chances for winning the game. So if you see spots on your skin, which are not symmetrical and growing these need to be checked out. The CDC says that;

?The three major types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Malignant melanoma causes more than 75% of all deaths from skin cancer. This disease can spread to other organs, most commonly the lungs and liver. Malignant melanoma diagnosed at an early stage usually can be cured, but melanoma diagnosed at a late stage is more likely to spread and cause death.?

For Skin Cancer; Early Treatment Wins the Game and thus ask your doctor to look at the spots on your skin to make sure they are not cancerous and keep an eye on them, be smart. Please consider all this in 2006.

    Rescue The Face Behind ACNE

Acne is one of the most common of all skin problem. It affects most teenagers to some degree and even many adults. Acne shows up as Whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and, in some people, deep painful bumps that look and feel like boils. Acne most commonly occurs on the face but can also appear on the back, chest, shoulders, and neck.

Am I the only one with acne?

You are definitely not the only one with acne. It is estimated that 85% of people between the ages of 12 and 25 suffer from some degree of acne, so you are not alone. In most people, acne clears up after a few years. But at its worst, acne can cause permanent scarring of the skin. And even when there are few physical marks left, the emotional ones can be devastating.

    Why am I getting acne?

Acne usually begins around puberty, when members of both sexes experience an increase in the production of the sex hormones called androgens. These hormones regulate the activity and size of the oil-producing, or sebaceous, glands that reside in the pores, or hair follicles of your skin. The increased production of these hormones causes the oil glands to get bigger in the areas where acne occurs.

The sebaceous glands make an oily substance called sebum. Sebum travels through the hair follicles to the surface of the skin. The lining of the wall of the hair follicles sheds skin cells, which then stick together with the sebum. The follicle gets clogged, plugging up the opening in the surface of the skin. Whiteheads and blackheads are the result of this clogging of the pores. The sebum and cell debris together contribute to the growth of bacteria that live in the pores.

Your own body will naturally attempt to clear the clogged pores by sending in certain specialized cells that invade the follicles to help clean it up. However, in the process, the wall of the follicles may weaken and rupture, emptying the contents of the follicles into the surrounding tissue. When this occurs, swelling or redness can develop around the affected follicles, resulting in the larger bumps or pimples characteristics of acne. These are known as papules and pustules and can sometimes cause scarring.

From the begining until its disappearance, the life cycle of a pimple can take 8 weeks to run its course. And it can take even longer for the darkened spots left by some acne pimples to fade completely.

The aim of acne therapy is to unclog the plugged pores and keep them clear by using effective medicines such as retinoids (adapalene, tretinoin). Sometimes antibiotics or benzoyl peroxide may be prescribed to help control the bacteria that may be growing inside your pores.

Is there anything I can do about my acne?

There are numerous treatment options for people who suffers from acne. How your dermatologist decides to treat your acne will depend on the severity oy your acne.

What kind of cleanser should I use?

Acne is not caused by dirt. Of course, you should cleanse your face, but too much vigorous washing can dry your skin too much, or even aggravate your acne. Cleansing twice a day is sufficient. Your dermatologist may recommend that you use a mild, nonsoap, fragrance-free cleanser (e.g. Cetaphil Gentel Skin Cleanser) that won't dry or irritate your skin.

    Should I use a moisturizer?

Since some acne medications can be drying, it may be helpful to use a moisturizer. Your dermatologist may recommend a mild, fragrance-free, nonirritating moisturizer (e.g. Cetaphil moisturising cream) that is noncomedogenic.

Can I prevent my acne from coming back?

The regimen that your dermatologist has prescribed will help you get rid of whatever acne pimples you have now, and it will also work to prevent new ones from appearing. By using your medication correctly and consistently, you can help prevent new acne pimples from forming. If you stop using your medication, or if you onlu spot-treat those pimples you can see, new pimples may form, and they may take weeks to clear again. Apply our medication in the same way every day or as recommended by your dermatologist.

    Can acne be cured?

There is no instant or immediate cure for acne. But it can be controlled, and scarring may be prevented with proper care and treatment. Again, correct and consistent use of your acne medication and following your dermatologist's instruction will be your best bet.

    Natural Products For Your Skin

There are many ointments that flood the market aimed at preventing or curing acne. But they have a large content of chemicals in them. They adversely affect the skin structure by extracting the natural oils present in the skin. The oils that are present in the skin act as lubricators and protect the skin. But the ointments usually close the pores and eventually acne reappears.

Therefore it is suggested that you use extracts from plants, trees and many other natural sources. The natural extracts have the characteristics that are require to fight bacteria and other germs.

Devina?s face peel: It contains 2% essential oils, vitamin E and other oils. It reduces inflammation, prevents clogging, and clears marks on the face. It has anti-bacterial properties.

    Acne Skin Care

Acne is a problem faced primarily by teenagers across the world. However, it is not uncommon to find acne in individuals aged between twenty to forty years. Acne is a skin problem characterized by blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and lumps. It generally occurs on the face, neck, upper arms, and shoulders.

Bacteria, excessive oil, dirt, make-up, and sweat are some of the factors that cause acne. Therefore, acne skin care must be targeted at keeping the skin clean and reducing its oiliness. Individuals with acne should wash their faces with warm water and soap or face wash that is specially manufactured for acne-prone skin. Products containing tea tree oil are supposed to be beneficial. While application of a sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher is essential while going out during the day, night cream should be avoided. Astringent can be used to cleanse and tone the skin, followed by the application of a mild, water-based moisturizer.

Pimples should not be touched frequently or squeezed, as this often aggravates the problem and leaves behind stubborn marks. Tomato, mint, or cucumber juice can be applied on the face and the neck. They provide a blemish-free complexion. In addition, a weekly face mask made of almond powder, milk, and rosewater can prevent pimples and lead to glowing skin.

Oil-based make up should not be used on acne-prone skin. Although a variety of concealers are available in the market to hide skin blemishes, they offer only a temporary solution. In fact, some concealers add to acne problems. Apart from following a skin care regimen based on suitable products, diet needs to be controlled to prevent or cure acne. This is because acne also results from digestive disorders. Intake of fried food, sweets, tea, coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol should be cut down. Instead, fresh lime, tomato, or carrot juice can be taken in-between meals. These help to cleanse and hydrate the body internally, and only a healthy body can possess flawless, glowing skin. Therefore, a mix of internal and external care is required to combat acne.

Acne Skin Care Treatment Goals Is Chocolate A Cause?

Acne Skin Care usually involves continual treatment of skin even after the acne goes away. It can form on the head, back, or chest and is caused by the blockage of pores by excessive sebum production from your sebaceous glands. Acne is not caused by eating chocolate or greasy foods although oils and grease that land on your face can irritate acne and make it look worse. Nor is it caused by stress but of course stress can make it look worse.

It's not recommended that people pop their acne but sometimes it's hard to ignore. If you do decide to pop, thoroughly wash your face and hands, and find a needle to lance it. Be sure to sterilize the needle with alcohol or heating it over a lit matchstick. Pierce the pimple and gently squeeze until it runs clear or you see blood. Wash everything again and let it alone.

There are several drug treatments available for acne, that are aimed at four goals: stopping the abnormal clumping of cells within follicles, stopping increased oil production, reducing bacteria on the skin, and reducing inflammation that makes acne look so bad.

Over the counter medicines available for the treatment of acne are: Benzoyl Peroxide, Resorcinol, Salicylic Acid, and Sulfur. Benzoyl Peroxide kills the acne causing bacteria, Resorcinol breaks down blackheads and whiteheads, Salicylic acid helps to break down blackheads and whiteheads and also cuts down the shedding of cells in follicles and Sulfur also breaks down blackheads and whiteheads.

Over the counter treatments come in the form of gels, soaps, creams, soaked into pads, or in lotions. They can cause irritation to the skin as well so if you experience burning, or redness after a prolonged use of the treatment, stop using them and consult your doctor.

Deep Peels for Acne: What it feels like to get burned

There I was. I had paid just under $400 dollars to get a bright, clear, zit and scar-free face. My appointment for a deep herbal skin peel had arrived. As my cognizant and trusted Russian aesthetician, Dana, glided me onto the spa bed, she warned, ?This his going to hurt a lot, you must be strong.?

Seconds later I am courageously, though mentally moaning to myself, ?Jesus! Uhhh! Iiiiiiiiiii! Help! It feels like she'?s rubbing glass into my face.?

You?'re doing fine? Just a few more minutes and we?ll be done. Yes, it is tough to be beautiful, coached Dana.

I am out of my body, I am out of my body. I am free. I feel easy, light? Crap! This is not working, it still hurts like hell, I whimpered to myself.

A satanic eternity later, Dana was done. And all the Heavens rejoiced in my cosmetic liberation. To all appearances, Dana took my face from scarred and acneic to blistered and tamale red in a matter of 7 minutes.

?Here, take these home and use them as I have instructed. You must do as I say or you will damage your skin and it will not look like baby new skin when you return in four days. Be extremely careful with your skin, it is very fragile now, be gentle with it. Do not scrub or wash your skin for the next three days. Use only the materials that I have given you.?

Dana?'s words were all I could think about in the coming hours. As I rushed home from the spa looking like a red version of the Blue Men, I congratulated myself for following through on a decision that took over a year to make.

For the next three days I avoided the sun like a bat and hid away from society. If I did have to face the sun, even just for a few seconds, I slathered my skin with a physical sun block that contained titanium oxide that Dana gave me.

Day One After the Deep Peel:

My face is no longer red. It became extremely dry. My face is like a fish out of water, scaly. I use the thick cream Dana gave me as she foretold, ?Your skin will become very dry and then begin to peel off in chunks. And then you will have nice, new and beautiful skin like a baby.?

Day Two After the Deep Peel:

?It has begun! It has begun!? I scream like a mad scientist. The moment I was waiting for- my skin began peeling off in chunks. I could just lightly rub my face and dry scales of skin would come off. It was amazing all day long this was happening. Scales of dry skin coming off my face. It did not hurt. It was just amazing to witness first hand.

Day Three After the Deep Peel:

More of day-two type activity. My skin is peeling like crazy. I?m a happy because I can already tell that most of my scars are gone.

Day Four After the Deep Peel:

I return to see Dana. She gives me a facial to remove the excess dead skin cells from my face. Afterwards, Dana and I are both amazed at the results. She bemoans, ?I wished I had taken a before and after picture, you look completely different now. Your skin is beautiful!?

I agreed with her 150%. I had new clear skin that was as soft and firm as a newborn baby?s face.

This deep peel turned out to be a hasty move on my part, because just a few months later, my skin was just as scarred with zits as it was before I started the deep peel. I realized that I needed to have my acne under control before proceeding with serious, and not to mention expensive, skin treatments. I advise the same to all. Make sure your zit break outs are few and far between before you spend your money on scar removal.

    Acne and Green Tea

Green tea is used by the Chinese as a traditional medicine to treat many ailments including acne and to improve general well-being. But does it provide an effective herbal alternative to modern medication?

The answer seems to be ?Yes?. There are only two herbal treatments that are known to be effective in treating acne and green tea is one of them.

In a recent study by Jennifer Gan-Wong, M.D. a green tea cream was trailed against a 4% benzoyl peroxide solution on people suffering with moderate to severe acne. The results from this research study showed that green tea was just as good in treating acne as the benzoyl peroxide.

But benzoyl peroxide dries out skin causing itching or allergic reactions. Unlike green tea that has the added advantages of natural anti-bacterial properties and antioxidants, particularly epigallocatechin gallate which is 200 times more powerful than vitamin E at fighting free radicals.

Green tea also helps to reduce inflammation, hormonal activity and aids in detoxification - which is all good news for acne sufferers.

Green tea extract is an extremely versatile herbal supplement - it can be administered topically, often being used in creams, taken as a in the form of a pill or incorporated into your diet and drunk as a tea.

This last method is very popular (Green Tea with Honeysuckle is often known as ?Pimple Tea? in many Chinatowns) when drunk after a meal it aids digestion and helps to detoxify your system, getting rid of the toxins that can cause acne. Tip: don?t drink it with sugar, this will neutralize the worthwhile effects of the tea.

It seems that taking green tea for acne is a win-win situation? It has many beneficial properties which promote good all-round health with little or no known side effects and for the price, green tea it?s definitely a herbal treatment that?s worth trying.

5 Tips For Getting Rid of Acne

By now, almost everybody has seen the late night and early morning acne infomercials with Jessica Simpson and Sean Diddy Combs. I guess they figure, if a celebrity trusts something, then so should you. The promises made for the product sound surreal, and yet for many people it may be just the cure they're looking for. Even so, it may not be for everybody.

One of my daughters who had acquired a bad case of acne in recent years, tried the infomercial solution, and it didn't work on her at all. Being a young teenager, she was beset by acne breakouts and needed a solution fast. But unable to find a quick solution, we ended up going to the local dermatologist for acne information and answers. The doctor gave her a prescription for a cream and an oral medication. After following his instructions for a couple weeks, her acne had virtually departed. This was the right solution for her, but it may not be for you - because we're all different.

Here are some general tips that I've discovered over the years:

If you have oily skin - it's best to take a medicated acne product or one in gel form.

If you have dry skin - you'll probably do better with the acne cream form and medicated products with benzoyl peroxide or salycic acid.

If you have both oily AND dry skin (combined type) - you will probably need a combination of oily skin gels and dry skin acne creams to apply to different parts of your fact according to the skin condition there.

If you have sensitive skin - you will more than likely need less intense concentrations of either dry, oily, or combined-type treatments.

If you have skin pain because of acne - you should get personal attention from a dermatologist.

So many people struggle with skin afflictions on a regular basis. With the advances in science, you'd think that the acne problem would have been solved long ago and that acne would be a pale memory. Unfortunately the age-old confidence destroyer is still around and going strong.

Today, reaching middle age, I find myself in a new situation when it comes to unsightly blemishes. Now I find that my skin tends to be a bit oily and I have acne breakouts after moisturizing my face. One of the few things I look forward to as I get older is the absence of acne.

Adult Acne Skin Reactions from External Sources

Its been mentioned before that people may have a certain sensitivities to types of foods or products in the foods that they eat and can cause adult acne skin reactions. However it?s far more likely that an external cause may be aggravating or partially responsible for the acne.

The skin is the body?s largest organ and it?s on the outside of the body so it?s exposed to a variety of external factors which can cause irritation, infections, and even acne. Some people have more sensitive skin than others. You may be washing your face regularly with an acne cleanser but this may be too strong. Many people complain that the traditional cleansers with salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are too strong, leading to redness and dry skin.

In this case you can go off of the over the counter cleanser that is bothering you and irritating your acne skin or you can look for a different cleanser with different formula. In the case of cleansers the formula is the most important thing for your skin. If you do have irritation look for a cleanser with less of the active medication, for example .5% benzoyl peroxide instead of the 1 or 2%, and try to get a cleanser that doesn?t have alcohol in it. Alcohol is very drying.

When rinsing off your face you normally use tap water, but this tap water may contain chemicals or minerals that are too harsh for your skin leaving it with red splotches of color and irritating the all ready sensitive skin with acne on it. You may wish to test your water to make sure it isn?t too hard or soft and test the pH level to make sure it isn?t too alkaline or base for your skin. You can easily correct the water by picking up a simple water purification system that attaches to your faucets.

Other typical acne skin irritants can be pollution, excess sunshine, pore clogging skin creams, lotions and make ups and greasy work environments.

The Truth About Acne Skin Care

Let's face it, you are engaged in an ongoing battle when you are afflicted with acne. While acne treatments for a mild case of acne are usually successful, moderate acne is a greater problem. Even dermatologists cannot cure a severe case of acne but can only provide an acne treatment regimen.

However, you can support your acne treatment efforts with proper acne skin care in order to reduce the recurrence of acne flare-ups and not aggravate existing acne.

    Knowing What You're Doing

One of the first pieces of advice is to make sure that you understand and follow the directions for any acne remedy that you are using. If you are taking a prescription acne medicine, read the patient leaflet that accompanies the medication carefully. Typically for moderate to severe acne a dermatologist may prescribe several acne medicines, each with its own treatment protocol and directions.

In order to achieve the acne free skin that you desire, it is important to use all the acne treatments properly and in the correct order. Consider bringing a tablet of paper, a pen, and a friend or relative with you to your appointment with your dermatologist. Simply jot down some notes about the order and time of day for applying each acne medicine and what its purpose is.

Remember, just because the acne clears with the use of your acne medicines doesn?t necessarily mean that you have succeeded in curing acne. Most people with moderate to severe acne must continue to use their acne medicine long-term to prevent any recurrence of their acne problem. Using the acne treatments properly should translate to clear skin and freedom from acne scars.

    What About Over-the-Counter Remedies?

Besides using medications prescribed by a doctor, there are a large number of products on the market labeled as skin cleansers, facial cleansers, pore cleansers, and facial pore cleaners that can be used in curing acne.

When cleansing skin that is afflicted with acne, an important point to remember is not to scrub the skin; never scrub your face with a washcloth. It is a misconception that acne is caused by dirt clogging the pores of the skin. You don?t scrub away the offending dirt; you can?t scrub away the offensive acne and achieve acne free skin.

Over-washing or scrubbing skin afflicted with acne only serves to aggravate the condition. Rather use only a gentle skin cleanser, lukewarm water, and a gentle motion with your fingertips as your primary acne skin care regime. When you wash your face with your hands, be sure to first thoroughly wash your hands.

    Do Natural Treatments Really Work?

Look for gentle cleansers that are sold as acne solutions. When you're evaluating skin cleansers for acne, include natural acne treatments in your search as well. For example, a soap made from Echinacea and other herbal ingredients is an effective antibiotic facial cleanser that helps fight acne and restore clear skin. Tea tree oil also has known antibiotic properties and serves as a mild anesthetic that will soothe the irritated skin.

Oily skin is implicated as a one of the causes of acne. It doesn?t necessarily make sense to use a moisturizer on oily skin as a means of achieving clear skin. But many of the acne treatments, whether they are prescribed or available as over-the-counter products, have a tendency to irritate the skin while curing acne.

A moisturizer is a boost to irritated skin and keeps skin from becoming overly dry due to the acne treatments that have been applied. Look for a moisturizer with the following properties:

    - oil-free
    - won?t clog pores (non-comodogenic)
    - containing a sun-screen

Besides a great desire to just scrub away the acne, many people try to remove the acne pimples by hand as a way to get clear skin. People who are afflicted with acne should avoid touching their face except to gently wash it with mild cleanser as already discussed.

By trying to remove pimples by hand you run the risk of creating acne scars that will last for a lifetime. Instead, have patience and rely on your prescription or over-the-counter acne treatment to work. Acne remedies usually take 6 to 8 weeks before curing acne.

For male acne sufferers, the daily ritual of shaving can be a problem. One acne sufferer has recommended the Gillette Sensor Excel as a gentle and effective razor to use. Other males prefer to try an electric razor. The advice is to shave delicately to avoid nicking the skin and to shave only as often as necessary. Finding a moisturizing shave gel may be one way to enhance your acne skin care program.

Female acne sufferers have their unique problems too, in finding the right cosmetic products to use. Females who are accustomed to using a foundation product may find that the foundation is difficult to apply smoothly if the facial skin becomes irritated due to the acne treatments being applied.

You may have to abandon the use of some cosmetics during the acne treatment period. Be sure to select only oil-free cosmetics and ones that are labeled as non-comodogenic (won?t clog pores) to use on your road to clear skin.

Proper acne skin care is a necessary addition to your arsenal for fighting your battle with acne and achieving clear skin once again.

Here is the Best Acne Product

Acne is that irksome, soul destroying affliction which presents itself usually when we approach adolescence and which can continue well into our adult years - sometimes persisting for a lifetime for an unfortunate few. The frustration and embarrassment caused by this malady transposes into a never-ending search for the best acne product to help alleviate the problem.

Needless to say, the condition of acne is something shared by almost everybody at some time in their lives and, as would be expected, the number of products on the market is legion; because of this it can be very difficult to find just what may be the best acne product for you personally. The problem is that everybody is different. You may have a normal skin type, dry or even oily, as this will have some bearing on what type of product and treatment may be suitable for you.

In the search for the best acne product it just boils down to trial and error. Products should be chosen with your particular skin type taken into consideration and you may have to search considerably until you find success. Another thing to be aware of is that you may come across a product that will have an adverse effect so care must be taken: the last thing you want is to seek remedial treatment for a worsened skin condition.

In your search for the best acne product you may come to the decision that there is no one product that stands out. Perhaps a combination of one or more products may be best for you - again trial and error will tell. There are certainly plenty to chose from and some treatments include prescription products (which normally would have higher concentrations of the various ingredients) and various other products which can be bought at the local drug store without prescription. The best acne product can include face peels, exfoliants, washes and even make-up to help tone down existing conditions.

Alongside the various medications the very best acne product starts with your own daily regime of skin care. The skin must be kept scrupulously clean in order that bacteria are kept at bay. It is not recommended that spots and pimples be squeezed or picked as this may lead to permanent scarring which usually cannot be removed. Far better to prevent such condition than try to remedy it afterwards. Even with the most meticulous care of your skin, eruptions will still appear but by diligent attention to skin cleansing these can be kept to a minimum.

Now a word of caution; always bear in mind that all acne products bought over the counter contain chemicals and can have disastrous results if used on the wrong skin types. Before embarking upon any remedial action using these products it is strongly advised to check with your medical practitioner and follow any advice given. Your complexion is very delicate and any harmful results from inappropriate medications will decidedly show up. Certainly, facial scarring is something to be avoided at all costs.

To sum up; the best acne product is a combination of your own scrupulous attention to skin cleansing together with one or more of the products that work for your skin type. Once the correct combination has been found you may be one of those fortunate people who go through adolescence without the constant embarrassment suffered by many others due to acne - surely the dream of many an adolescent.

Acne Know About Whiteheads And Blackheads For Clear Skin

Every talk about acne includes terms such as whiteheads and black heads. What are they and why are they called so? Let us find out. Acne develops on the hair follicles that have sebaceous glands attached to them. These glands produce an oil called sebum. Because of certain reasons the sebum changes in quality and quantity giving rise to scales on the hair follicle. This blocks the skin pore causing acne. This blockage is the beginning of acne.

The first stage of this blockage shows as blackheads and whiteheads. These are also called as comedones. A comedone is a sebaceous follicle that is plugged and filled with sebum, dead cells etc. An open comedone is called a blackhead because of its blackish appearance. A blocked comedone is referred as white head, which is a small bump in the skin with skin like color. A whitehead has closed mouth and the blackhead has an open mouth.

What to do if you have blackheads or whiteheads- don?t squeeze them yourself. That may leave permanent scars and also infection. Best is to approach a dermatologist who will pick them open if required under sterile conditions. Please note that acne scars can permanently disfigure you.

As far as basic care is concerned, wash your face gently with slightly warm water and mild soap to remove excess sebum and dead skin. Don?t be harsh on the skin. Please note that acne takes time to clear. Apply any topical cream that may be prescribed by your dermatologist. Acne treatment requires patience. Many of us hurry to get rid of acne and create further inflammation.

Acne: What It Is and What To Do About It

When your skin pores start to be clogged up with greasy, oily stuff, causing inflammation to occur, a skin condition known as acne results. If left untreated, acne could produce permanent scarring on one?s face, neck, or back. Acne is different from the common pimple that appears on the face, because acne will be inflamed and might turn out to be an infection. Acne can appear as whiteheads (closed pimples) or blackheads (open pimples), which then cause the distinguishing inflammation and possible infection.

When children begin to turn into adults, their levels of hormones causes changes in skin gland size, which causes more oil to be produced by the glands, thus often resulting in acne. The majority of acne is minor and vanishes at the end of teen years, but inflamed, infected acne can result in serious scarring.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no known study that shows particular foods, such as chocolate, cause acne. Proper diet and exercise will result in healthier skin, but will not necessarily prevent acne from appearing.

Mild forms of acne can be controlled by washing with a soft mild soap several times a day, and by refraining from picking at pimples while they are healing. There are several acne medications on the market that can control acne, but cosmetics and oil-filled lotions should be avoided when treating it.

The more serious forms of acne may necessitate the assistance of a physician to avoid spreading and scarring. Antibiotics are often prescribed in such cases. Further, teens who have acne sometimes feel embarrassed and might skip school or stay away from social contacts because of how they look. In cases like that, it might become necessary to seek counseling as well as medical assistance from a physician.

    Treating Acne At Home

Home treatment for acne offers many treatment possibilities. If you decide that home treatment for acne is something you want to try you may need some information.

One home treatment for acne can involve changes in your diet. Many people find that home treatment for acne that includes dietary changes is very successful. When using this home treatment for acne you should eliminate sugar, caffeine, processed foods and foods that contain a lot of iodine.

Another home treatment for acne is one that consists of adding supplements every day. Some of these supplements include vitamins, brewer?s yeast, zinc and chromium.

A home treatment for acne that has worked for some people is aloe. You can use this in gel or juice form. You can try apple cider as a cleanser as a home treatment for acne. Another home treatment for acne is cleaning your face with egg whites.

Try making an oatmeal mask as a home treatment for acne. Apply cooked and cooled oatmeal to your face and let it sit for fifteen minutes. You can use a peeled cucumber that has been liquefied in the blender as a home treatment for acne. Just apply it to the area that is affected with acne.

Witch hazel sometimes is effective as a home treatment for acne. Put a little witch hazel on a cotton ball after you have cleaned your face. As part of this home treatment for acne you should then apply a 2% salicylic acid product.

The sun is considered a good home treatment for acne by some people. The ultraviolet light kills the bacteria and dries up the oil.

Sometimes a home treatment for acne is as effective as alternate treatments.

Do You Care for Acne Care?

Different people have different types of skin. Acne prone skins are very sensitive skin types. Therefore, acne care must be given special attention by persons that have these skin types.

Acne sufferers follow a specific type of acne care depending on their skin type. They must be vigilant about the methods and products that they use.

Some skin types are sensitive to dyes, perfumes and chemicals in many beauty products. If you have mild to moderate acne, here are some acne care tips just for you:

Acne Care: Dealing With Problem Skin

    1.Beauty Products

We have already heard of dry skin, oily skin and a combination skin. If you have acne, you may have decided that your skin type is either oily or combination. But actually, it's neither of these. Acne prone skin falls into a completely different category: problem skin.

People prone to acne should choose beauty products specially made for acne. Don't use any beauty products that have added dyes and perfumes, as these ingredients can seriously aggravate your blemishes.

    2.Nutrition

There are a number of vitamins and minerals like mineral zinc, vitamins A, C, E and B-complex vitamins such as vitamin B6. These are often used to improve the look and condition of the skin and also in acne care because these are important for the health of the skin.

Eating foods that are rich in sulfur may also be helpful because it helps to cure acne. Garlic and onions both contain a good amount of sulfur. Your acne care provider may also recommend that you avoid eating sugar, fried foods, or foods that have a high fat content. Carbonated beverages with sugar should also be minimized or perhaps eliminated.

Acne Care: The Dos and Don'ts

Acne prone skin needs special care. Here are the dos and don'ts of acne skin care:

    DO?s

? Gently wash your skin with warm water and a mild natural facial cleanser. Washing your skin twice a day will help to remove dirt and pollutants that could block pores.

? Choose oil free cosmetics and beauty products. Regular make-up contains fatty acids that are higher in fat than the fatty acids in your skin.

    DON?Ts

? Over wash your skin. Excessive scrubbing will aggravate acne and causes more blemishes to open up and spread.

? Pick your skin. Never pick, squeeze or pop your acne blemishes. Squeezing a pimple or other blemish can cause permanent scarring. And breaking the scar can allow a secondary bacterial infection.

? Smoke. Cigarette smoke is a toxin that is destructive to the organs both inside and outside the body.

? Use skin toners. Skin toners provide extra cleansing to skin, but they are made of very drying ingredients such as alcohol and acetone that could be damaging to skin.

? Expose your skin to sun. Many people think that sunlight will improve acne. And while it's true that some sun exposure may help dry up surface acne blemishes, prolonged sun exposure can damage skin and make acne worse in the long run.

People must be aware of the things that can cause acne so that it can be prevented. And for acne sufferers, they must always be aware of the things that can irritate their skin. A proper acne care starts with proper care of the skin.

    Cosmetic Acne Skin Care

Cosmetics, though by no stretch of imagination a valid line of defense, are widely used to camouflage acne. Though this is reasonable and makes sense, any kind of topically applied oil-based compound will aggravate acne. This especially applies to foundation creams, the longest-lasting of which are generally oil-based (or oleaginous).

Specifically, the ingredients to avoid include isopropyl myristate, isopropyl esters, oleic acid, stearic acid, petrolatum and lanolin. Cosmetic brands of lower quality will not mention the presence or absence of such compounds on the label and must be avoided. Though alcohol-based cosmetics are not the best choice for acne-prone skin, they are certainly preferable to oil-based ones. The best bets are water-based cosmetics which, though not as long-lasting as oleaginous ones, are far more suitable and less detrimental to acne.

There are a number of cosmetics available for camouflaging unsightly acne. They usually come in the form of a regimen that includes a concealing cream, a sheer or opaque foundation and a dusting powder. Prior to using these products, the skin must be gently but thoroughly cleansed and a certain amount of individual inventiveness may be called for to match camouflaged acne with unaffected skin areas.

A lot of research has been conducted to isolate the ideal shades of foundation creams for hiding acne, and you can now choose the shade that best suits the degree of acne you suffer from. For instance, green creams have been found most suitable for camouflaging redness resulting from rosacea. Yellow cream is best suited for purplish bruising and excessively pigmented skin (which can be caused by severe acne), and so on.

It is best to consult a knowledgeable salesperson attached to a reputed cosmetics outlet rather than pick up such ?designer? products off the shelf at the local supermarket.

    All doctors agree on one thing and that is of all the major types of skin cancer, early detection and treatment is your best chances for winning the game. So if you see spots on your skin, which are not symmetrical and growing these need to be checked out. The CDC says that;

Are Your Cosmetics Wreaking Havoc on Your Skin?

We all have times when our skin looks less than gorgeous. At those moments we inevitably reach for the miracle products -foundations, concealers, powders-we rely on to cover up the flaws we?d like to hide. Yes, makeup is a great temporary fix, and it?s a wonderful tool for enhancing our best features. But depending on cosmetics to cover over your troubled complexion could actually be making the problem even worse.

Cosmetic Acne - What Is It?

If you use makeup regularly, then those blemishes you?re trying to hide could actually be caused by your cosmetics. You can usually tell if your acne has been triggered by a chemical, topic agent because it will look somewhat different from the genetic or hormonal type that?s often characterized by red bumps and pustules. Cosmetic acne is more rash-like and generally made up of tiny pinkish or flesh-colored bumps. These bumps can appear anywhere you apply the cosmetics - on your forehead, cheeks, chin or nose, or even on your neck.

People who mistakenly think that these little bumps are chronic low-grade acne of the type that requires topical creams or antibiotics may be tempted to cover up with even more makeup. They pile on the foundation, smothering the skin and creating a more persistent and noticeable rash.

It?s important to recognize that this isn?t true acne of the type caused by internal factors. Cosmetic acne is all about what you are putting on top of your skin. Therefore, it requires a different treatment. If you want to get rid of cosmetic acne there is a very simple fix: just stop using the makeup that?s causing it! In most cases, the acne will clear up within a few weeks of throwing out the offending cosmetics!

    What Cosmetics Should You Use?

Does all the above mean makeup is a no-no? Of course not! But in order to avoid potential flare-ups, choose your cosmetics carefully. Opt for formulations made without oils and look for makeup marked non-comedogenic, which means that they have a lower likelihood of clogging pores. Avoid heavy, thick or greasy substances. And don?t be afraid to go bare-faced - we all tend to exaggerate our own flaws, but they are usually much less noticeable to other people. It?s good to let your skin breathe as much as you can.

What if you are experiencing isolated breakouts along the hairline or on other parts of the body? You should take a good long look at all the creams, soaps, shampoos and other substances you?re putting on your skin in order to determine what could be causing the condition. Sometimes using heavy conditioners can clog the pores around the scalp and even on the neck or back (especially if you have long hair that hangs down and touches your skin). Try switching to a lighter formula, or be vigilant about keeping your hair away from your skin.

If it?s your body soap that seems problematic, you may want to switch to a formula that offers extra exfoliation to keep pores clean. Consider one that contains the acne-fighting ingredient salicylic acid, which sweeps away dead skin cells and prevents clogs from forming in the pores.

    Methods of Application

Finally, remember that sometimes it?s not just what we are putting on our skin that is wreaking havoc on our complexion - sometimes it?s how we are applying those substances that needs to change.

For example, scrubbing too hard when applying your facial soap can encourage your skin to produce more oil, leading to acne flare-ups. Rinsing with hot water instead of lukewarm can also promote breakouts, so keep your sink and shower water at a comfortable but not too steamy temperature.

And whatever you do, don?t dip your fingers directly into pots of foundation or apply concealer wands directly to blemished areas. Doing so allows oils on your fingers and acne bacteria to take up residence inside your cosmetics - and next time you use that foundation or concealer you risk spreading acne to your fresh, clean skin.

So make it a point to use disposable cosmetic sponges, Q-tips and tissues to keep your makeup pristine, and wash your cosmetic brushes regularly. Toss out any makeup that?s been sitting in your cabinet for longer than a few months to ensure that whatever you put on your face is clean and free of potential skin hazards!

Prevention and Treatment for Acne Scars

While it may sound elementary, the first place to start with acne scar treatment is prevention.

Most people cannot predict when they will have an acne outbreak or how severe that outbreak will be. If you suffer from acne outbreaks, having a good preventive treatment regiment is a proactive way to keep acne minimized, reducing the risk of scarring in the first place. It is as washing your hands to help prevent spreading germs.

Among all of the factors that can contribute to acne outbreaks, heredity is part of the mix. Additionally, heredity plays a factor in the amount of scarring you will receive from acne, or in other words, your ability to heal.

Almost all acne sufferers will develop some form of scarring, from mild to severe. The earlier in life that acne treatment is initiated, the more likely scarring will be minimized.

Acne scarring is the end result of the body?s healing process. The decrease of elastic fibers in the skin combined with thickened collagen groups that grow excessively contribute to scar tissue.

There are two types of scar:

Hypertropic Scars are the thick and discolored scars that show above the normal surface of the skin.

Keloid scars are discolored scars at the skin level or below and grow outward from the initial injury similar to a stretch mark.

There are several treatment options available to help reduce or eliminate the visible signs of scarring from acne.

Topical Solutions ? Several topical solutions are available. These ointments are applied to the damaged area and are designed to hydrate the skin and remove dead skin cells, which allows for skin cell rejuvenation and replenishment, reducing or eliminating the appearance of scars.

Silicone Sheets ? Modern research has shown that silicone is an effective treatment in scar removal. While the science of how it works is not completely understood, several companies manufacture silicone sheets and silicone based treatments that are designed to minimize or eliminate the appearance of acne scars.

Microdermabrasion ? In microdermabrasion, a dermatologist uses a hand held buffing wheel and a special abrasive cream to remove the surface layer of the skin. When the new skin grows in, it is healthier and has more elasticity than the old skin, reducing or eliminating the visible signs of scarring.

Chemical Peels ? A chemical peel uses a chemical solution of Phenol, Trichloroacetic Acid, and Alphahydroxy acids to remove the outer layers of damaged skin. Similar to microdermabraision and laser resurfacing, new skin cells replace the removed damaged cells, reducing or eliminating the visible signs of scarring.

Laser Resurfacing ? Performed by a qualified cosmetic surgeon, a concentrated laser beam is targeted on the treatment area. As the laser energy penetrates the skin, it vaporizes the water and the surface layer of skin, leaving the deeper layers untouched. Laser resurfacing also helps to restore the elasticity of the skin by shortening the collagen fibers that are contained in the skin layers, reducing or eliminating the visible signs of scarring.

Always be sure to consult a dermatologist before undergoing and treatment for scarring. However, all of these treatments have been proven to be effective, so once you find the right one, it is just a matter of time before the scarring is reduced or eliminated!

Acne Know How It Forms And Get Clear Skin

Acne forms near the opening of the sebaceous glands that have hair follicle in them. In normal circumstances, the cells that form the wall of the gland should exfoliate from the pore opening. In certain circumstances these cells become dysfunctional and instead of exfoliating normally, block the pore opening.

In the meantime, the glands keep producing sebum and if hormonal disturbance is present the glands produce sebum at a higher rate. This sebum keeps filling the gland sack and the bacteria called Proprionobacterium acnes (P. acnes) thrive in the atmosphere that is full of sebum and no air. As the bacteria flourishes, the gland gets infected.

At this stage when the bacteria are flourishing and causing inflammation, the gland is producing more sebum and the pore is blocked, the gland becomes very infective and full of dead cells, bacteria, pus and dead skin. This is what we call as a papule or a cyst. The acne grows through different stages and this is the last stage after which the gland ruptures.

Thus acne is not a single stage disease but many causes join together to progressively increase the intensity of acne formation. Teenagers get more acne because the hormonal balance of their body changes during that period. The hormone androgen is normally responsible for accelerating the production of sebum.

Doctors try to intervene during the process of formation of acne and its growth and try to prevent formation of cyst that may scar the skin forever. The same hormonal disturbance is responsible for acne outbreak in some women during their menstrual cycles.

Tablet Treatments for Acne ? What are Your Choices?

There are two basic types of tablet treatment, prescribed by your doctor for acne, the first being one of a range of antibiotics and the second a hormonal treatment. Which is prescribed will depend, largely on the specific type of acne you are suffering from, along with consideration of your previous medical history and the success of acne treatment to date.

Antibiotics are by far the most common oral treatment for acne, and usually supplemented by a topical treatment, which may contain the same antibiotic preparation as is being given in tablet form. This is thought to be important in order to ensure that the acne causing bacteria do not become resistant to, two types of antibiotic. Erythromycin is a common antibiotic used in treating acne, and is usually the first one used. Sometimes the specific type of bacteria causing your acne maybe resistant to this treatment, and may require a different course of action. As is always the case with antibiotics, it is important to follow the instructions of the prescribing doctor, in order to maximise effectiveness, while minimising any side effects or adverse risks.

The second type of tablet treatment is a hormonal treatment called Dianette, which contains a drug called co-cyprindiol. This drug is designed to help decrease the excess oiliness of the skin, which as we know is a key contributor in the acne formation process. It is critical that a female taking this drug does not become pregnant, as the active ingredient can cause damage to the unborn child. This particular tablet contains oestrogen which acts as a contraceptive, and is used as such, when a combined acne treatment and contraceptive is requested.

There are a number of other acne treatments in tablet form, some of which are only prescribed under the supervision of a dermatologist. You should never take any form of oral medication for acne or any other illness, unless under the strict supervision of a medical expert. This is very true of some of the more powerful acne drugs, which can have very strong side effects.

    The Best Acne Products

The are many acne products on the market today that can help clear your skin. However, they don't all work for everybody. Sometimes a simple over-the-counter cream can do the trick, other times you may need a more powerful prescription medication. Learning about all of your options is a good starting point.

Our faces contain millions of pores that must remain open and clear in order to let natural oils drain to the skin's surface. In the event that a pore becomes clogged, the oil builds up and mixes with bacteria to form a painful, inflamed pimple.

Fortunately, there are acne skin care products that can not only help get rid of pimples, but also prevent new breakouts in some cases. Over the counter acne products are usually the first stop because they are relatively inexpensive and easy to use. Oxy, Clearasil, and Stri-Dex are the most common topical treatments that you can purchase without a prescription.

Benzoyl peroxide is the active ingredient in Oxy, Clearasil, and many other acne products that you can find at your local drugstore. It is also a main component of Proactiv Solution, which can be purchased online. Although it can help with mild to moderate cases of skin blemishes, some users may experience itching, burning, and swelling of the treated areas.

Stri-Dex contains salicylic acid, which also has its share of possible side effects. This product can cause skin irritation, allergic reaction, peeling, and burning. Most over the counter acne skin care products have a significant chance of making acne worse rather than improving the condition. This is because they contain harsh ingredients that your skin may be sensitive to.

Some of the best acne products are natural supplements, namely antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that can remedy your skin problems from the inside out. Rather than topical applications that are quite often ineffective, natural supplements are taken orally, and the nutrients within can help treat the pimple, rejuvenate the skin and prevent new breakouts from occurring. All of this is accomplished without the potential side effects of OTC and prescription acne skin care products.

Besides over the counter topical solutions and natural supplements, there are a number of prescription acne products such as Retin A and Accutane, which contain stronger active ingredients for severe breakouts that don't respond to other treatments. These meds come with some side effects, so they should be a last resort for most individuals.

Talk to your dermatologist to find out best acne products for your skin. A cream or oral supplement may just work for you. If not, perhaps you need a stronger medication. In any event, rest assured that the solution is out there somewhere.

Is it Skin Disease? Could it be Cancer?

Here is a brief algorithm for diagnosis you can refer to, before speaking with your physician or dermatologist:

I home this will help to be a guide that will help determine what kinds of lesions may be of concern, and what signs your dermatologist will be looking for.

Some lesions you may find on your epidermis will turn out not to be skin cancer, but regardless, they can still be of concern. Though perhaps not the worst thing that could happen to your skin, certain kinds of diagnosis? can be very important to attend to right away.

If then character of your skin legion is brown or black, it is likely a kind of Pigmented BBC. These legions are mostly nodular and can be totally pigmented or appear in fractions of pigment. Again, as with any skin legion, you will want to consult your doctor as soon as possible. There are many other possibilities as to what this kind of legion could be other than skin cancer.

One way to diagnose your skin disease is by the appearance of it. If the legion you find is scar-like, it likely falls under the category of Sclerotic BBC. The characteristics of these particular legions are that they appear flat or even depressed, if the border of the legion is not well defined, or if the legion appears shiny?like a scar. However, something like this could just be a traumatic scar and not skin cancer at all.

If you legion is yellowish it may be what is called a Nodular BBC?the majority of these legions will be found on the face. Sometimes they are more pearly colored, they may have a rolled edge, stretching the skin will help you see the legion better, these legions are slow-growing and are almost always on the face. However, there are several other kinds of skin disease that could have similar appearance that is why it is recommended that you always consult your doctor when you find a legion on your skin.

A reddish colored legion on the skin could possibly be Superficial BBC. The legion may have a fine scale, will appear perhaps with a thin, beaded pearly boarder surrounding it, these legions tend to have atropic centers. Depending on if the legion is scaly or smooth, the legion could be one of many different types of skin disease.

As with any cancer, if the illness is identified soon enough, it is more effectively treatable?the same goes for other kinds of skin disease. So you do not want to put off diagnosis or the necessary treatment.

    Treating Acne The Right Way

After suffering acne for almost a decade, you are expected to have learnt pretty much about treating acne and perhaps the most effective ways for going about this condition.

Of course, I learnt a lot. And part of what I have learnt is that acne can be treated in a lot more ways that most of us know about. The most common misconception about acne is that the breakout is caused by poor facial or skin hygiene. This may worsen the situation, but researches and experience have shown that it is not the root cause of acne. Thus, treatment procedures that tailored along this thinking are bound to fail.

The face, and generally, the skin should be seen as a part of the body. In this regard, the face is like an external expression of the health of the body. Anything that improves the health of the body is bound to make your face free of those depressing acne breakouts.

Good and healthy diet, regular exercise and stress-free living are all factors that are important for ridding your face of acne.

Healthy and balanced eating not just improves the body?s health, it also adds to the health, shine and texture of the skin. It is important to note that bacterial infection of the sebaceous glands have been shown to be one of the commonest causes of acne. Healthy eating improves the body?s immunity and its ability to fight off infections.

Also regular exercise strengthens the muscles of the body, allows the internal organ to function effectively and also strengthens the skin. The profuse sweat that follows a sound exercise is capable of freeing your hair pores of any kind of obstruction. Since obstruction of skin pores have been shown to be one of the common cause of acne, freeing your pores with the intense sweating that comes with a sound exercise is sure to reduce, if not completely stop, acne breakouts.

Ask some people and they will tell you that stress is the most powerful inducer of acne breakouts. This is from experience. I have always suffered serious acne breakout whenever I get too worked up over something. This may be difficult to explain medically, but it is obvious. Learning to keep stress at bay does wonders for acne skin care.

Apparently, following these healthy tips might not completely rid you of acne, but I am sure it would make the work less difficult. Acne treatment that accompanies healthy eating, regular exercise and low stress levels is bound to be far more effective and long lasting.

    Acne Causes and Treatment

Acne is one of the most common skin problems affecting people worldwide. A big misconception is that acne affects only teenagers, but many are surprised to learn that adults also suffer from this same inconvenience. Among the many causes are clogged pores resulting from makeup, everyday air particles and often a simple case of hormonal changes. While acne is a part of life for many individuals, it can be effectively treated.

One of the best natural remedies for acne is to wash your face at least twice on a daily basis. Early in the morning and late at night are both good times to cleanse the face. A moisturizing soap will be the most gentle for your skin whereas others with a harsh ingredient may strip the skin of it?s natural moisture and may even cause itching and/or redness.

Many people choose to use retail acne treatment products, which can be effective if used properly. It is very important, however, that consumers read and understand the instructions and/or warning labels found in the packaging. All acne treatment creams, pads or face wash products should be kept away from the eyes and are for external use only. This is not only true of retail products, but prescribed medications as well.

For a recurring or severe case of acne, many sufferers turn to a dermatologist for a more aggressive treatment. In most cases, a prescribed routine and medication can help to treat acne. In most cases, a follow-up visit will be scheduled so that the doctor may monitor the patient?s progress and determine whether additional steps should be taken to treat the problem.

It is very important to avoid aggravating, or disrupting, any and all acne blemishes. Otherwise, the sufferer will face a possible bacterial infection from dirt and/or germs that may reside underneath the fingernail. Many believe that just because their fingernails appear clean, there is nothing to worry about. That?s simply not true. There are many germs and bacteria, which are not visible to the naked eye, that reside underneath the fingernail. This is why an acne sufferer should avoid any direct contact between their hand and the blemish area(s).

The information in this article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be considered as, or used in place of, medical advice or professional recommendations for acne diagnosis and/or treatment. If necessary, acne sufferers should consult a dermatologist or qualified physician for acne treatment.

Water and Sunlight Helps to Clear Acne

    Drink More Water

The skin stores around 12% water. It is important to maintain this amount with the correct amount of good fat to keep your skin from getting acne. You need to drink around 2 quarts of distilled water every day. If you are not drinking this amount, just start increasing the amount that you do drink.

Drinking water helps you get rid of toxins in the blood. By drinking water, you will urinate more and more toxins will be eliminated. The cleaner your blood the healthier your skin will be and your will not have a problem with acne.

Use glass containers when buying distilled or reverse osmosis water. Try to avoid using plastic containers for water since plastic containers contain chemicals, left in the container walls during manufacturing, which leaches out into the water.

If you are drinking fresh juices, you will also be getting water from these juices. Drinking sodas is not drinking water.

Here?s a few things you do to help you drink more water or to make the water healthier. Find a 16 or 32 oz glass container and add distilled water. Then add one of the following nutrients:

    * A few drops of Alkalife. This solution changes the pH of the water from 7 to 8 and also activates the water with its electrolytes ? sodium and potassium.

    * Squeeze the juice of one lemon into the water. Do not add sugar. A few drops of honey may be ok.

    * Squeeze the juice of one lemon into the water and add up to one teaspoon of powdered MSM. MSM is excellent for the skin disorders such as acne. It makes the skin cells more flexible, allowing more nutrients to go into and out of the cells, and its anti-inflammatory. MSM is also excellent in activating peristaltic action and will prevent constipation.

    * Put 2 oz of mangosteen into the water. Mangosteen is an over all body tonic. It works on all parts of the body and will help keep you regular.

You can also choose to add your favorite nutritional flavor to give water an additional value.

Chose one of these natural additives for your water and drink this water little by little all day long. This is one more thing you can do to get rid of acne, improve your skin texture or to keep the nice skin you already have.

    Get Some Sunshine

One more thing you can do for your skin is to get more natural light.

Expose your face to plenty of sun and air. This helps your skin to heal faster. But don?t purposely place your face in the sun, but remaining in the shade and open outdoors gives you plenty of sun and air.

At least 20 ? 40 minutes a day in the outdoors is necessary for you to get sufficient vitamin D for you daily needs.

Teenage Acne ? Helping to Cope with Skin Acne

Teenagers with acne may feel besieged by the sudden changes in their appearance. Puberty and acne have been known to go hand in hand. As if it?s not already hard enough for your child to see changes in their body, now they?ve been overwhelmed with acne! Unfortunately, teenage acne can severely damage your teenager?s self-esteem.

Male teenagers may feel insecure about their appearance, causing them to withdraw from social activities with the opposite sex. Females, on the other hand may hind behind make-up products such as foundation or concealer. These methods of ?coverage? usually aggravate acne and cause further blemishes.

While acne is generalized as a ?part of growing up,? there are many factors which contribute to teen acne. For instance, a diet which consists of soda, junk food, and greasy foods will invite acne. By all means, your teenager should have fun and snack every now and then. But over-indulgence of such treats is the primary cause of severe acne in teenagers.

Your teenage daughter may have a very hard time dealing with acne. After all, this is a generation that?s flooded in advertisements that define beauty. Very rarely do you see a teenage model, actress, or singer that shows obvious signs of facial acne. Nevertheless, these famous teenagers are not flawless by any means. With the right amount of lighting and airbrushing, anyone can appear flawless! It?s essential that you remind your teenager of this.

It?s important to inform teenagers that they are still attractive and look wonderful the way they are. By all means, boost the esteem! Never pick at your teenagers appearance, as it will only hurt their self-esteem. If a teenager feels ridiculed and ashamed, they will lash out--or worse withdraw from friends and family. This can lead to depression, which may or may not be temporary.

If your teenager has been facing stress they may become affected by acne. An increase in stress will promote acne amongst people of all ages. Your teenagers body will react to stress by releasing more oils throughout the skin. Which increases the likelihood of receiving acne. In order to keep blemishes at bay, your teenager should wash their face regularly.

Nevertheless, excessive washing with soaps and/or other medicated acne products may dry out the skin. This will result in further skin problems. Your teenager should also drink plenty of water to flush impurities from the body. This too, will reduce the symptoms of teenage acne.

Acne Program Step 9 Protein and Other Food to Eat

Eating the right kind of food is what can give you a strong immune system and help you prevent sickness and all kinds of skin blemishes including acne.

Here are some of the foods that can help you overcome the acne on your face or throughout your body.

    Protein

Eating excess meat is harmful to your health. Eating too much meat, more than 2-4 ounces per day, has been found to contribute to narrowing of the arteries.

If you do physical labor and are involved in a lot of movement in your work, then you should eat more than 2-4 ounces of protein per day. Just make sure that the meat has a minimum of additives and preservatives.

Remember, meat is high in saturated fat, which blocks the activity of EPA and DHA, which produce prostaglandin and control the activity of your hormones.

Meat and bread is a big contributor to creating constipation. Meat is difficult to digest and many times it will get into the colon partial digested. This condition benefits the bad bacteria and allows them to dominate the colon and create constipation.

Because meat and bread have little fiber, they move slowly in the colon, which leads to constipation and eventually to some type of colon inflammation.

Bad bacteria, decaying meat and other undigested food contribute to the build up of toxic matter in the colon. This is the type of condition you should try to avoid, if you have acne. You need fecal matter in the colon to move regularly and out the rectum, otherwise, toxic matter will build up and end up in your blood stream

Here are the grains you should be eating:

    * Brown rice ? contain many amino acids that help rebuild skin tissue

    * Whole grains ? contain folic acid, magnesium, and vitamin E, B vitamins, minerals, and fiber

    * Oats ? use them in the morning with honey or raisins. Oats have an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin and help to keep you regular.

    Seeds and nuts

    * Almonds - Almonds contain protein, the B vitamins, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Use them as a snack. These small nuts help to build muscles and tissue.

    * Flax seeds ? These seeds are known for containing plenty of omega 3 oil, an essential oil for life. They also contain fiber when used ground up and put into smoothies. Omega 3 is also an anti-inflammatory oil, which is good for acne.

    * Pecans ? This is one of the good nuts to eat. It contains Vitamin A, B?s, C, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium. Use them as a snack.

    * Pine nuts ? these nuts also one of the best to eat. They contain vitamin A, C, B?s, protein and iron.

    * Sesame seeds ? They are high in calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. They are helpful in relieving various skin diseases such as acne by reducing the swelling.

    * Sunflower seeds ? These seeds should be used as a snack. They are high in protein, calcium and vitamin A. They provide nutrients for building the whole body and are good for dry skin.

All of these nuts and seeds should be eaten raw. Heating and other processing will kill the life force of the nut or seed and also reduce the quantity of the vitamins and minerals.

Eat these nuts and seeds as snacks. Sesame seeds, sunflower, and flax seeds can be put directly into your blender as you make your smoothies.

Organic Skin Care Do Organic Skin Care Products Really Work?

You must have noticed how popular organic products have become these days. When anything is labeled as organic it simply means that no chemicals were used during the growth/cultivation of this product. The belief here is that organic products are more healthy and less harmful to our bodies. Hmmm .. if this is the case then why don't we grow only organic products? The simplest reason is that the use of chemicals helps to manage large-scale cultivation. Whereas in the case of organic production, this is mostly manageable only on a much smaller scale. In a nutshell organic products are made from organic ingredients - fruits, vegetables etc. Lets move on to see how this affects you.

Now, how is all this relevant to your skin care? The question you should be asking and you probably have been is - how do I differentiate between all these various organic skin care products in the cosmetics aisle? If you have ever looked at the labels of these products, you will notice that a lot of names on the back are unpronouceable. This is because some products use organic ingredients in addition to some chemical ingredients. That is the caveat - 'in addition to'. You have already seen this situation if you have ever shopped for juice before. It's the same as those bottles of juice which do not indicate that they are 100% fruit juice.

So, how do you read these labels? If you are going from top to bottom, then you will notice a decrease in the concentrations. Make sure that the ingredients all the way from the top to the bottom make sense to you. If they don't quickly note them down and do some basic research on the web.

Now, this begs the question - should you buy these?

These skin care products are definitely beneficial for your skin. More than likely the side effects from these will be minimal. There are a variety of products, each with a totally different purpose - some exfoliate, others cleanse, condition, nourish, hydrate and moisturize the skin.

Most people who use these products say that their skin feels fresh and relaxed immediately after use. The added benefits is that these organic products have a nice smell. So, not only are you rejuvenating the skin, but you are also uplifting your spirit and of others around you. It doesn't get better than this!

Acne Know About The Latest Acne Treatments

Acne treatment is changing very fast. Research is continuing around the world to find acne treatments that can treat acne at the initial stage. At the later stage of acne growth, the chances of acne scarring become very high and therefore scientists are devoting efforts to treat acne painlessly at the beginning itself. The following are the latest treatments for acne that are being used to get clear skin.

Blue Light- P.acnes bacteria is responsible for inflammation in the sebaceous glands causing acne. Blue light of low intensity destroys this bacterium. This is a painless procedure, which normally lasts for fifteen minutes per sitting. The interval of days for each treatment may vary and will depend on your doctor. Some side effects such as swelling, dryness and pigment change may occur because of blue light. By killing the bacteria, blue light treats acne quite painlessly.

Green-yellow light and heat energy- this combination of pulses of green-yellow light and heat energy is supposed to kill the P.acnes bacteria and shrink sebaceous glands. By shrinking the glands, sebum production decreases.with reduction in sebum, acne shrinks and dries out. It is the sebaceous gland that is the place where acne forms. By shrinking it, sebum production decreases and acne formation reduces.

Diode laser- this laser can destroy the sebaceous glands. Diode laser does not harm the outer layer of the skin. This kind of treatment can be painful and can create redness that is temporary and can also produce some swelling that is also temporary. The pain of laser can be reduced with application of anesthetics on the skin during the treatment. By destroying the sebaceous glands, acne can be controlled effectively.

Microdermabrasion and chemical peeling- these treatments can be used to treat acne with other traditional therapies. Both these procedures are used to remove the dead skin, open the pores and accelerate growth of new skin. Traditionally these procedures have been used to remove scars, sun damage, fine wrinkles etc. They are now being tried to treat acne.

Causes of Acne ? Solution and Acne Control

In order to answer this question, we should first examine different types and causes of acne. It?s important to note that you are not alone in your struggles with acne. Acne is a skin condition which effects millions of people. Acne does not discriminate. It can appear on the faces of the young and old of both sexes of any and every cultural background.

    Types of Acne:

Whitehead Acne: As the name suggests, whiteheads are named after their appearance. If your pores are clogged, yet bulge with a white tip - these are whiteheads.

Blackhead Acne: Like the whitehead, a blackhead is named after it?s physical description. If your pores become clogged, yet stay open - a blackhead becomes visible. The top surface of that part of your skin will darken, displaying the rapped dirt in the pore.

Pimple Acne: Sometimes our pore open, leaving them vulnerable to bacteria. Should bacteria, known as sebum, enter - the skin will display a red bump. This is commonly referred to as a pimple.

Nodule: These are clogged pores which are very deep in the skin. These nodules are infected lumps or cysts which can be tender to the touch or very painful.

    Causes of Acne:

Hormonal changes in teenagers and adults can cause different types of acne in teenage boys and girls. Statistics show that eight out of ten teenagers display some type of acne during their adolescent years.

While our bodies need some oils, excessive build-up of oils can promote blocked pores, causing whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples.

Excessive washing removes all oils from the skin. The face needs some oil to maintain its healthy appearance. Otherwise you become a candidate for dry damaged skin or more acne.

Scrubbing your face is never the solution. Gentle exfoliation is always suggested, but scrubbing is a no-no. The objective is to soothe your face and rid it of acne. Not aggravate the skin and cause yourself pain. Washing your face with water, while healthy for your skin, is unlikely to remedy the issue ? which lies in the buildup of oils in the skin caused by DHT.

    Acne Solution:

Finding an acne treatment that attacks the real root cause of acne ? the buildup of oils in the skin which leads to blackheads and attracts bacteria. By reducing the level of DHT in the skin layer, oil production is reduced, thereby eliminating acne creating at the source.

The Causes and Prevention of Acne Scars

Acne scars are caused by injury to the skin as a result of the acne, and the way in which the body has tried to repair the damage. Different people scar in very different ways, some being much more susceptible than others. However irrespective of how vulnerable you are to scarring, it only happens when you have a severe outbreak of acne, and is rarely associated with the much more common ?mild? cases.

Acne scars are classified under two broad headings, one being where extra skin tissue is present and the other being where there is loss of normal skin tissue.

Scars where extra skin tissue is deposited are called raised scars or keloid scars. They are composed of extra collagen which has been laid down under the skin. Sometimes these scars can be bigger than the original spots and often last for years, with darker skin being more prone to this type of scarring.

When skin tissue is lost the scarring is often referred to as ?sunken?. These are much more common than raised scars and are characterised as ?pits? in the skin. There are a whole range of further classifications associated with sunken scars, all of which describe the particular way in which the scar looks. For example ice-pick sunken scars look like wounds from an ice-pick (small with jagged edges and steep sides).

Irrespective of the type of skin that you have, there are some things you can do to reduce the occurrence of acne scars, these include:

    1) Proactively seek out treatment for your acne before it becomes severe. See your doctor, start some topical medication, adjust your diet, do something to prevent a few spots becoming severe acne.

    2) Try not to squeeze your spots; this single activity will dramatically reduce your chance of developing acne scars.

    3) Don?t pick or poke your spots with instruments such as nail files, and tweezers.

    4) Use a good oil free moisturiser as part of your skin-care regime, to keep your skin supple and flexible.

Following these simple tips will ensure you don?t do long term damage to your skin.

Acne Why It Forms More During Adolescence

Acne- the causes of acne formation

The main cause of acne formation is excess sebum production. The sebum is produced by sebaceous glands that are attached to hair follicles. This sebum protects our skin from infection and dryness. During young years hormones bring about many changes in the body. These hormones activate the sebaceous glands to produce more of sebum.

    Sebaceous glands and acne-

Imagine of a balloon. If you keep it filling, it will expand and then burst. Something similar happens to the sebaceous glands. The hormonal activity also blocks the pores that allow sebum to come out on the skin surface. So you now have a gland that is blocked from the top and filled with sebum. The bacteria P.acnes takes advantage of this and multiplies in the sebum and infects it. You get inflamed acne as the gland bursts under pressure. As the hormones are at peak during the adolescent years, acne forms most during this period. A young person can develop many types of acne. Learn more about them in brief here => Types of acne

    Acne- effect on adolescents

Acne spots affect the psychology of the young people. They suffer in confidence and are doubtful about developing relationships. It is important that adolescents be guided properly about their acne and treated as soon as possible.

The Basics of AntiAging Skin Care

The very first question most people have when exploring the realm of anti-aging skin care is, ?What skin rejuvenation products have been proven to be effective?? Accurate information regarding the multitude of anti-aging treatments flooding the marketplace is the best way to make informed decisions for developing your own skin rejuvenation regime which incorporates the anti-aging skin care techniques, strategies and treatments that best address your personal aging skin issues.

The basics of effective skin rejuvenation begin with the facts on anti-aging skin care treatments. There are several active ingredients that have been clinically proven to be effective skin rejuvenators. One of the most effective treatments is vitamin A derivatives such a retinol or retinyl palmitate.

The Retin A or Renova vitamin A treatments are the strongest although the most irritating treatments of the vitamin A options and are only available by prescription. If your skin needs major rejuvenation attention, ask your Doctor if you are a candidate for the prescription vitamin A treatment of Retin A or Renova.

If not, including one of the other retinol alternatives in your skin care routine is an excellent strategy. The concentration of over-the-counter retinol products can range up to 1%. The basic rule of thumb is, the higher the concentration, the stronger the treatment. Be forewarned though, read the directions carefully because the stronger retinol products can be quite irritating to the skin. Starting slow and gradually working your way up to higher concentrations will allow you skin to adjust to the treatments better. The vitamin A derivative, Retinyl Palmitate, is the less irritating of the Vitamin A options and is considered to have quite effective rejuvenating qualities.

The next most beneficial anti-aging skin rejuvenation treatment is a chemical exfoliant such as an alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) or beta hydroxyl acid (BHA) product. The most popular of these acids is an AHA glycolic acid. Glycolic acid should be use in concentrations of 8% to 15% depending on your skin?s sensitivity. Start out with a lower concentration and gradually move up to a 10% then 15% concentration depending on your skin?s tolerance in order to avoid irritation.

The last consideration is including an antioxidant to contain the skin damaging free radicals as well as to encourage overall skin repair. Products containing Vitamin C Ester, Spin Trap, or CoQ10 are all good options to explore. Then, of course, there are other viable anti-aging treatments which can be incorporated into your regime depending on your particular skin rejuvenation needs which include DMAE, Kinerase or Kinetin, and GHK Copper Peptides. Finally, the most critical and essential aspect to any successful skin rejuvenation regime is sunscreen, at least once a day, each and every day!

    Acne And Stress

Stress - Since your skin in your largest organ, how you live can sure influence how healthy your skin is. And stress, not necessarily bad stress, but rather certain external and internal stressors, factor into this health equation. So let's take a look at how to handle these stressors with regards to acne prevention.

External Stressors- A goal of acne prevention would be to keep your skin pores clear from clogging and becoming infected and irritated, resulting in blemishes and inflammation. So you need to take a look at your external environment throughout the day for factors that could trigger skin pore clogging. Here are some examples of what to look for: grease, oils and sun, like being around open fryers in kitchen areas, or around machine oil and grease in workshops or factories, or out in the sun all day on a construction jobsite. Too much oil, grease or sun on the skin can clog pores and trigger acne and other skin irritations.

Minimize contact by wearing long sleeves and other protective wear and gear and discussing further options with your dermatologist or healthcare provider. With regards to being out in the sun, note that a small amount of sun each day can be fine and healthy. However, extended periods can trigger the sebaceous glands to create more oil as your skin dries out. At the same time, the dried out skin needs to be cast off or shed at a faster rate than normal. The resulting extra oils and dead skin make a wonderful environment for pore clogging. So here, too, use protective clothing for outdoor activities and apply sunscreen; oil-free products are best for acne-prone people, and those with a minimum protection of SPF 15 and both UVA and UVB protection.

Internal Stressors - Internal stressors like anxiety, fear, low self-esteem, depression and a variety of other internalized emotions, can trigger chemical reactions inside your body that can result in acne flare-ups and other skin irritations. What happens is that these emotions can set your adrenal glands to work creating more cortisol, the substance that in turn causes your sebaceous glands to produce increased amounts of sebum oil, excessive amounts of which can be blocked in pores. Same old story: extra oil + extra dead skin cells = blocked pores, triggering acne flare-ups. With internal stressors, though, the results are usually inflamed papules or small, solid inflammations (or skin elevations that do not contain pus), instead of whiteheads or blackheads.

To combat internal stressors and prevent acne problems, here are some suggestions. Get plenty of rest and sleep a recommended average of eight hours per night. Try to maintain regular hours each day, regardless of which shift your work. Some say to focus on reducing SWAT: reduce your stress, worry, anxiety and tension, so journal a little each day mentioning any SWAT stressors you've felt. And focus on those that may seem overwhelming or to be taking too long to end, seeking help from others or other resources as needed for stress management. Check with your dietician or healthcare provider to establish and follow a regular well-balanced dietary and exercise plan of action to keep your body healthy on the inside and outside. Keep a check list of Things that Calm You handy for stressful times, like reading a book, resting, listening to music, taking a walk, going out for an ice cream cone, etc.

Acne Treatment Taking Care Of Mild Acne

Acne has three stages of diseases - mild, moderate and severe. If acne can be treated during the first stage itself, you can save tremendous amount of effort and protect yourself from the agony of bad looking scars that form after third stage of acne. Catch acne in the mild stage itself and don?t let it grow to second and third stage.

Mild acne does not need more intensive forms of treatment. Many acne sufferers treat themselves with OTC medicines for acne. Some patients prefer to consult a doctor at this stage itself to protect themselves from any flare up of acne.

Let us discuss the common treatment available for mild acne. Over the counter medications consisting of salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can control mild acne that is mainly whiteheads and blackheads. While using these medications, wash your acne prone area with mild sop/cleanser and warm water twice a day to remove excess oil and dead skin.

Some times these products may cause dryness, redness or peeling. Use an oil free moisturizer if the peeling is present. The skin takes some time to adjust to the acne medication. If irritation occurs, you should consult your doctor. Please remember that acne medication takes time to treat acne. Many time up to eight weeks to work. Keep patience and wait for the results to get acne cured. If you don't get results after that, you should consult your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe other medicines to treat acne.

    Treatment of Back Acne

Even though the majority of over the counter acne merchandise is aimed at controlling facial acne, there are those who have acne on other parts of their bodies. Now that the summer months are here, back acne sufferers will dread the warm weather. Shirts will stick to sweaty backs and acne will flare up, causing discomfort and pain. For some people, back acne in not tolerable. If you?re one of those people, the following tips are here to help you find relief from back acne and prevent it from occurring.

First and foremost washing your back in the shower is very important. Because are backs aren?t exactly visible, they all too often go ignored. If you can?t reach your back, you can purchase a back scrubber. These are specially deigned to wash those hard to reach areas of your body. A back scrubber will help you fight acne by removing dead skin and unclogging blocked pores. Soap will remove excess oils that build up on your lower back, shoulder blades, and in the center of your back. Remember to rinse your back thoroughly to remove any soap or shampoo. The chemicals in soap and shampoo have the ability to dry out your skin, making it itchier.

Water will help you to stay hydrated on hot days. Regardless of the temperature, your daily routine should incorporate several glasses of water. It?s a back acne miracle. Trust us. When you drink a lot of water, your body will work harder to rid itself of bacteria and impurities. You may sweat more, but this isn?t anything to be embarrassed or alarmed about. Sweating is natural. Just remember to shower regularly. If not, you can irritate back acne more and cause future blocked pores.

In addition to all of the suggestions mentioned above, it is important to understand that the real cause of acne derives from excess oil created in the skin pore, a byproduct of DHT in the skin. The most effective method of attacking back acne is by addressing the root cause behind the acne, which is this increase in oil which clogs the skin pore and allows bacteria to set in, causing a blackhead and the first stages of acne. Finding an effective treatment for acne that attacks DHT production in the skin will be the best way to clear back acne and all other forms of acne. Without attacking these root causes, only the symptoms (lesions, blemishes) will be addressed and the acne will continue.

The Wonders of Green Tea It can Help With Acne Care

Green tea is the most consumed beverage in the world, second only to water. The craze for green tea exceeds taste, as this beverage?derived from the white-flowered plant, Camellia Sinensis?is continually proving its health and wellness benefits.

A native to Asia, green tea is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are known for their ability to help fight diseases and maintaining healthy cell structure. Antioxidant research has shown that antioxidants help prevent cancer, reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease, and can even lower blood cholesterol levels.

Researchers are now linking the antioxidants in green tea to acne prevention.

It has been long known that placing a warm tea bag on an acne blemish or similar growth will help to draw the toxins out of the lesion, promoting quicker heal times.

Current research has shown that green tea extracts fight bacteria, reduce redness and inflammation, and can deter hormone activity. All three of these symptoms are present in acne blemishes.

According to the findings reported to the American Academy of Dermatology by dermatologist Dr. Gan-Wong, when compounded into a cream with a content of 3% green tea extract, acne treatment results were comparable to using a topical solution containing 4% benzoyl peroxide, a common treatment for acne.

Dr. Gan-Wong?s findings were based on an independent study of just over 100 acne suffers. The test subjects were randomly split into two groups, with one group receiving the green tea treatment and the other receiving a benzoyl peroxide treatment. Neither group was aware of the treatment they received, nor were the dermatologist who documented their progress.

After a twelve week period, significant improvements in the reduction of acne and redness were noted in the patients using the green tea extract. The results were comparable to the results of the benzoyl peroxide users.

Additionally, dermatologist noted improvements in skin tone on the test subjects who were using green tea extract cream, and green tea users reported fewer cases of dry skin and allergic responses.

Thus, green tea extract cream had proven to offer the same benefits in the treatment of acne as benzoyl peroxide, with fewer side effects.

Benzoyl peroxide is a crystalline powder that is used in tire and plastic production as well as cosmetics. Benzoyl peroxide can irritate eyes, skin, and respiratory tracts, and is on OSHA?s hazardous substance list as a precaution against prolonged exposure.

What makes using green tea extract appealing as an acne treatment is that green tea is all natural.

Furthermore, it gives the holistic community a welcomed study on something that has been recommended by holistic healing practioneers for years. It is quite probable that green tea has MANY medicinal properties yet to be verified by western science. This seems very likely, considering the vast amount of anecdotal evidence regarding the healing properties of green tea.

So, on a holistic level, there is now one more scientifically backed treatment for acne available to those who want to avoid the harmful side effects of the various chemical acne treatments.

With this in mind, those who want to treat their acne, but hate the redness and irritation caused by using benzoyl peroxide and other chemicals on the skin, there is now a scientifically proven, all natural treatment. Green Tea!

    Acne Skin Care

For a healthy skin, skin care is extremely important and when we talk about acne, trust me acne skin care is even more important. Acne is that condition of skin when the skin has pimples, cysts, nodules, blackheads or whiteheads which can occur on face, chest and back. Acne is said to affect more than eighty percent on teenagers or preteen but this is in majority cases otherwise acne can occur on skin of person belonging to any gender, race or color.

The most important goal of acne skin care should include clearance of acne, prevention of scarring and, morbidity minimization. It is very important that the patient who has acne should be given the education on the acne and its treatment because patient's knowledge is most important for effective acne skin care. It is essential to give away with the myths that consumption of greasy food, potato chips, sugar and chocolates are responsible for the development of acne.

For an effective acne skin care the patient should be strictly advised to cleanse the skin gently using a non-comedogenic moisturizer. The patient should also avoid picking and rubbing the skin and using the apricot scrubs that might have a harsh effect on the skin. Other important preventive measures for acne skin care should include use of proper shaving technique and being consistent with the skin care regimen. Drinking more water can also help skin stay healthy. Evidence states that modification of the testosterone dose; dosing schedule or delivery method helps improve acne symptoms.

Another very important issue is the use of cosmetics. Trust me it is better to eliminate or not eliminate so atleast reduce the use of the cosmetics for proper acne skin care because at times the patients use cosmetics and makeup to hide the acne. Though this is reasonable and makes sense, any kind of topically applied oil-based compound will aggravate acne because the growth of acne is increased due to oil glands and top of it if more oil producing cr?mes are applied than one can understand what the condition of the skin would be.

Specifically, the ingredients to avoid for proper acne skin care are isopropyl myristate, isopropyl esters, oleic acid, stearic acid, petrolatum and lanolin. Cosmetic brands of lower quality will not mention the presence or absence of such compounds on the label and must be avoided. Though alcohol-based cosmetics are not the best choice for acne-prone skin, they are certainly preferable to oil-based one. It is best to use water-based cosmetics which, though not as long-lasting as oleaginous ones, are far more suitable and less harmful to acne.

There are a number of cosmetics available for concealing the acne one doesn't want anyone else to see. They usually come in the form of a regimen that includes a concealing cream, a sheer or opaque foundation and a dusting powder. But I would suggest that before using these products as well the skin should be gently cleansed and then these products must be applied on the acne skin.

A New Look at Natural Acne Treatments

There?s a confusing array of product claims and treatment methods for acne that make it difficult for acne sufferers to determine their best course of action. The fact that there are several forms of acne, including cystic acne and the common acne vulgaris, complicates the picture. While the medical community does not have a cure for severe acne, there are a variety of products that will subdue moderate cases of acne and provide the sufferer with clear skin once again. Among these effective products are natural acne treatments that provide viable alternatives to the use of antibiotic medicines and ointments.

Natural remedies are derived from plants that have been used for generations because of their medicinal properties. The prestigious National Institutes of Health recently formed the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Health to evaluate the efficacy of herbal remedies by funding controlled scientific studies. Herbal remedies can be effective natural acne treatments.

Antibiotics are frequently prescribed for acne because there is a known bacterial component to cases of acne but certain herbs like Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolio) have known antibacterial properties as well. A soap made from Echinacea and other herbal ingredients is a viable antibiotic facial cleanser that helps fight and clear acne. This type of soap is also used for eczema, psoriasis, and acne rosacea. Scientific studies show that Echinacea helps the body provide the proper enzymes at the cellular level to protect cells against invasion by bacteria. Echinacea?s ability to aid in wound healing is beneficial not only for acne but also for insect bites and burns.

Echinacea is the hardy purple coneflower that is a staple of roadside plantings and home gardens. A more exotic and expensive herbal acne treatment is tea tree oil. There are over 300 species of tea tree but only one species (Melaleuca Alteronifolia) found in New South Wales, Australia is known to have antibacterial properties.

    What is Tea Tree Oil?

Tea tree oil is derived from the leaves of the tree and is four to five times stronger than household disinfectants in killing bacteria. At the same time, tea tree oil is gentle to the skin. Tea tree oil is effective in killing the bacteria even in pus and will cause the body to eliminate pus from inside a pimple.

Tea tree oil also acts as a mild local anesthetic which reduces discomfort and also helps to eliminate the red irritation from the skin, improving appearance and reducing acne social problems. Tea tree oil is readily available from herbal suppliers and is simply applied to the affected area with a Q-tip. Tea tree oil is used sparingly.

Witch hazel is not just a brand name but an actual herb (Hamamelis virginiana) that is still recommended as a topical astringent and natural acne remedy. When using these topical acne treatments it is important to be gentle. While it seems to make sense to attempt to vigorously scrub away the offending acne, both medical doctors and herbalists recommend a gentle face washing with even just the fingers as the best approach. Scrubbing merely dries the skin and causes it to produce more oils that are implicated as one of the causes of acne. Don?t over-wash either; specialists recommend washing the face just twice a day.

Along with topical products, herbal dietary supplements can be beneficial as a natural acne treatment as well. Burdock root (Arctium lappa) has long been used to treat boils and abscesses and is an acne treatment. One of the reported properties of burdock root is that it will bring problem-causing agents out of the bloodstream, thus potentially making a condition seem to worsen rather than improve. However, the theory behind its use states that it is simply eliminating toxic elements from the body and providing healing properties.

When used as an acne treatment, herbalists recommend that topical burdock root be applied as well as taking a supplement that contains burdock. Burdock is typically combined with dandelion root (Taraxacum officinale) and golden seal root (Hydrastis Canadensis). Golden seal root was once used to prevent pitting of the skin caused by smallpox. Herbalists also recommend red clover (Trifolium pratense). All of these ingredients are implicated in improving skin conditions. Be sure to take these supplements only in the dosage indicated by the manufacturer or your herbalist.

Diet plays an important role in overall health and maintenance of healthy skin. A balanced diet that is rich in vegetables and fruits provides the necessary vitamins and minerals to support clear skin. A diet containing lots of vitamin A may lower sebum production and excessive sebum is one of the contributing causes of acne. The various B vitamins, especially vitamin B-6, can be beneficial as it is needed for proper metabolism of steroid hormones and sexual hormones are implicated in acne. Zinc is promoted as a cure for acne but there seem to be as many studies against zinc supplements as there are ones that promote zinc as an acne treatment. These vitamins are available as supplements but again, more isn?t always better; follow label dosing instructions.

There are plenty of old wives tales surrounding diet and acne outbreaks. Chocolate and fried foods have long been blamed for acne but there is no evidence to support this. However, the link between acne and dairy products is being subjected to scientific studies. A study published in the medical journal Dermatology in early 2005 found a link between teen acne and consumption of dairy products. For those whose acne is aggravated by dairy consumption, eliminating dairy products promotes clear skin. Another misconception is that acne is caused by dirt because the pores are clogged. Thinking that dirt is a cause of acne prompts sufferers to possibly over-wash the face and further aggravate the acne condition. Wearing make-up doesn?t cause acne either. Look for modern cosmetics that are:

    • non-comedogenic (won?t clog pores)
    • oil-free (water-based)
    • hypoallergenic (no added fragrance)

Acne isn?t just a teen-age condition and adults suffer from acne as well. The natural acne remedies have provided relief from acne symptoms for people of all ages.

More Than Just Packaging: Aromatherapy Bottles

By aromatherapy bottles, most of us will construe the packaging for aromatherapy products. Is packaging as important to be written about? Nevertheless, the aromatherapy bottles are different and are more than just packaging. By going through the following section, you too will agree that aromatherapy bottles have a role to play.

The bottles serve two purposes. Firstly, they ensure protection of the oil or absolute. Secondly, they add a style element to the simple looking oils. First, let?s discuss the protection that bottles provide to aromatherapy products. Aromatherapy products are largely made of essential oils. Essential oils become adulterated when exposed to sun or exposed to direct air for a longer time.

Therefore, choose the bottles for storing the aromatherapy products and essential oils with care. Not any bottle will do. Particularly, clear glass bottles must be avoided when storing the oils. Clear glass bottles allow sun rays to come in and thus accelerate the process of adulteration.

This makes it important to use the aromatherapy bottles, which are cobalt blue or amber green bottles. These allow very little sun to come inside through diffusion. Therefore, one can store his/her essential oils for longer.

Are plastic bottles appropriate to keep ones aromatherapy products like essential oils, hydrosols, carrier oils, etc? This is a question that one most often comes through when purchasing aromatherapy bottles. There are two schools of thought on this. The first believes that essential oils are concentrated liquids. Hence, they can easily dissolve the plastic container. Once the plastic dissolves in the oil, it is no longer pure.

The other school of thought is of the view that plastic containers do not do any damage to the aromatherapy products. Besides, they are available cheap. Plastic jars are available in two versions in the market- single walled and double walled design. Single walled is the conventional plastic jar. The double walled plastic jar looks more stylish and protects the content from extreme temperature changes. Another advantage of this is that the cream or any other aromatherapy product can be taken out up to the last pint.

Style as we mentioned is an important part played by the aromatherapy bottles. Customers request their oils to be packed in exquisitely designed bottles. Remains of elegantly carved bottles have been unearthed from the ancient Egyptian and roman civilizations. These were used to store the precious essential oils and other products.

The discussion about aromatherapy bottles will be incomplete without talking about rubber droppers and dispensers. Do not use rubber droppers while storing essential oils. Because of the reaction with the oil, the dropper will turn into gum. There are risks of contamination of the oils through dispensers too. Use airless dispensers for best results.

Chamomile For Health Hair and Life

    Camomile
    Matricaria Chamomilla

Common Names: German camomile, chamomilla, wild camomile.

    Medicinal Part: Flowers

Description: German Camomile is a Southern European annual plant found wild along roadsides, in fields, and cultivated in gardens. The round, downy, hollow, furrowed stem may be procumbent or rise upright to a height of 16 inches. The leaves are pale green, bipinnate, sharply incised, and sessile. The flower heads are like those of Roman Camomile, and the white ray-flowers are often bent down to make the disk-flowers even more prominent.

Properties and Uses: Anodyne, Antiphlogistic, antispasmodic, calmative, carminative, diaphoretic, tonic. German Camomile tea is valuable in many nervous conditions, insomnia, neuralgia, lumbago, rheumatic problems, and rashes. It also tends to reduce inflammation and to facilitate bowel movement without acting directly as a purgative. Use it as a wash or compress for skin problems and inflammations, including inflammations of mucous tissue. Keeping a mouthful in the mouth for a time will temporarily relieve a toothache. To help asthma in children or to relieve the symptoms of a cold, try a vapor bath of the tea. German Camomile can also be used as a relaxing, anti-spasmodic, anodyne bath additive. Use it for a sitz bath to help hemorrhoids, or as a foot or hand-bath for sweaty feet or hands. For hemorrhoids and for wounds, the flowers are also made into a salve.

Preparation and Dosage: Use 2 tsp. Dried (or fresh) flowers with ? cup boiling water. Take a mouthful at a time. Or add 2 tbsp. flowers to 2 cups cold water and heat to just short of boiling.

Bath Additive: Use 1 lb. Flowers with 5 qt. Cold water. Bring to a boil then steep covered for 10 minutes. Strain and add to bathwater. A less effective way is to hang a linen bag containing the flowers in the tub. Use proportionately smaller amounts for partial baths.

Chamomile is perhaps one of nature?s most benign herbs. Its calmative and restorative properties make it one of those rare ?any time? cures for whatever might ail you. For parents, whose children might be going through one of ?those days? a weak cup of chamomile tea can help to calm an overwrought child. Chamomile has been used for hundreds of years as a cure for stomach problems; from lack of appetite to an upset stomach. In my grandmother?s house, a cup of camomile was always the cure for a restless mind at bedtime.

On rare occasions, people have complained of allergic reactions to chamomile. However, because chamomile is a low growing plant, ragweed can easily become mixed with chamomile and this is where most allergic reactions occur. It is always wise to exercise caution when you are purchasing herbs. Be certain that you are using a reputable supplier that guarantees both the quality and purity of the herbs you are purchasing. You can find many quality suppliers at our website: UsingHerbs.Com

Chamomile also plays an important part in skin and hair care. Chamomile is an excellent tonic for fair hair. Use it as a rinse after shampooing to restore shine and bring out your hair?s natural highlights. Or better yet, steep together a pot of chamomile flowers and nettles for 20 minutes, then add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Place this mixture in a spray bottle and generously spray on your hair after shampooing. Do not rinse. The slightly vinegary smell will go away in a few minutes. This hair tonic is absolutely fabulous for blond hair. It will remove tangles, strengthen the hair and prevent breakage and split ends. The vinegar will also help to restore the hair to its natural ph balance and you will love the results.

For soap making, chamomile flowers can be added to any mild handmade soap. Its properties make it an excellent addition to olive oil soap and are excellent for treating dry, problem skin and soothing rashes and inflammation.

    Acne Care

Taking proper care of acne is very important, so that the acne does not become a serious problem.

    Clean your face often:

It is advised to clean your face often by using cleansers. Washing your face at least three times a day is recommended, but if you exercise, go for jogging, work in a factory environment etc then you need to wash your face after you complete that job.

Don?t touch the skin quite often:

Most of the people who have acne keep on touching, squeezing or rubbing the acne, which could leave marks on the skin. It is advised not to touch the skin often.

    Shaving properly:

While shaving you should take care the acne portion is not cut. If you have acne in the beard area, it is advised to trim your beard rather than to shave with sharp blades and cut the acne, which could lead to blemishes. Shave only when it is necessary.

    Avoid Sun:

If you use acne creams or lotions then it is advised not to go in the sun as you could get sunburn. Sunburn could leave a blemish on the skin and overexposure could even lead to skin allergy.

    Using cosmetics:

You have to choose the cosmetics very carefully when you have acne. The cosmetic products should be noncomedogenic, which means it won?t close your pores. Even using noncomedogenic products could make the acne bad.

    A Clear Complexion Made Easy

Getting clear skin is a simple matter of paying attention to your daily habits.

First of all, beauty works from the inside out.

Make it your mission to eat as well balanced a diet as possible and take a multi vitamin every day.

While diet has never been shown to have a direct affect on having clear skin or as acne prevention, it is widely known that diet does promote general health and is very likely to play a role in good or clear skin.

It is important and recommended that you consume at least 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

This will help you have clear skin. Certain vitamins such as A, C and E are classified as antioxidants and are also cancer fighters.

Get as much sleep as possible (eight to nine hours is the optimum) because it will do your skin and body a world of good.

Clear skin needs to be well rested so if you cannot get enough sleep at night, try to have a catnap sometime during the day. Even a ten to fifteen minute nap is advisable if that is all the time you can spare.

Adequate hydration promotes clear skin. If you want to keep or improve your complexion, drink at least 6-8 eight-ounce glasses a day (more if you're really a go getter!). Clearer skin, here you come!

Any form of aerobic exercise done at least 20-30 minutes per day will get your blood flowing and help keep your skin as clear as possible. And excercise will play a direct role in the levels of stress in your body. Stress is known to have a bad affect on general health, clear skin and acne.

Just remember that sweat and oil accumulate faster with exercise so shower directly after your exercise regimen to retain clear, unblemished skin.

How else can you get clear skin?

Well for another thing, makeup is for daytime and evening wear not for bedtime.

Cosmetics left on the face can clog up pores with dirt and debris.

This can lead to problems such as acne or folliculitis.

Your best bet is to take it off with a mild soap free cleanser before you turn in for the night.

The Truth About Your Acne Problem!

Like a good many people I have been the victim of acne vulgaris (what an appropriate name for such a vulgar disease) the medical term for pimples.

My acne problem has made me aggravated, made me cry, and made me angry. Thousands of people each year are afflicted by an acne problem, and their acne problem makes recluses out of way too many teenagers and even adults.

Your acne problem is caused when your pores get clogged and the fatty material made by the sebaceous gland accumulates, and a bump appears under the skin-or perhaps a whitehead or a blackhead (a comedone).

Blackheads are not caused by dirt but by the discoloring effect of air on the fatty material in the clogged pore. If this substance becomes infected a pimple results.

That is the medical explanation for pimples but what people really want to know is How do I get RID of my acne problem!?

As anyone can tell you the worst thing to do is to push or pop a pimple. Because this will not only cause your acne problem to worsen, but can result in life long scars.

No matter what you see on TV or in movies and no matter what anyone in your family or what any friend tells you, DON'T pop that pimple.

I speak from personal experience, my acne problem was so bad I couldn't stand it so I popped pimples trying to be proactive in getting rid of them.

That is the wrong method to get involved in doing something to rid yourself of your acne problem. I am still paying for doing it by the scars that remain on my face.

The right way is a simple trick I learned that lessons acne dramatically:

Steam your face at night over a warm bowl of water for 20 minutes before retiring to bed (this should be after washing your face thoroughly with a gentle cleanser like Olay's or Neutragena's facial cloths)

And then massage one half a teaspoon of castor oil onto your face for about 1 minute, until your face is just lightly shiny.

This will help keep your pores open and prevent new pimples from forming (the steaming opens pores and helps get rid of old pimples).

In the morning you should wash your face again immediately after waking and steam face again for 20 more minutes.

After steaming your face in the morning splash your face with cold water and dry off.

Do this consistently every night and morning for optimal results in clearing up your acne problem.

Now that you are armed with this information put it to use tonight and watch the improvement as your acne problem fades and your skin begins to glow after just a short period of time.

    Acne Medication Potential Side Effects

Patients with mild or occasional acne may be able to treat themselves without the use of prescription medication. Such remedies may include an alteration in diet and exercise habits, regular cleansing to remove residue and buildup on the skin, choosing the right cosmetics and eliminating stress. But for some individuals, this simply isn?t enough. For those who suffer from moderate to severe acne, a stronger medication may be needed in order for that individual to find relief from their condition.

There are several different types of medication that are commonly used to treat acne, each of which may contain the potential for certain side effects. As is the case with most over-the-counter acne medication, prescription medicines are usually available as gels, creams, lotions or solutions. In determining which is the best choice for the patient, a physician will study the skin type, severity of acne and the patient?s likelihood of having a negative reaction to any medication. Once a prescription is written, the physician will explain how often to use the medicine and how to properly apply it to the skin.

As mentioned previously, it is not uncommon for individuals to have a reaction to strong acne medication. For some it is only temporary, but others may require a change in their prescription. The most widely seen reaction is that of the skin?s condition actually worsening. Many physicians agree that most medications will cause the skin to worsen before it actually improves, which may take 6-8 weeks of using a medication. However, additional side effects may include extreme redness, burning, stinging, peeling, soreness, scaling or a discoloration of the skin. If individuals notice these side effects becoming increasingly worse or if they do not go away after a specified period of use, which should be indicated by a physician, the medication may need to be changed.

Individuals who take oral medications for the treatment of acne may face an entirely different set of potential side effects, including an upset stomach, dizziness and skin discoloration. Certain types of medication can be dangerous to women who are pregnant or children under a certain age, so individuals should report any possible conditions to their physician prior to accepting a prescription.

As with any medication, there are often risks and benefits of it?s use. The best way to learn of these is to speak with a physician, ask about any potential side effects and completely disclose your current medical condition and any medications that you are currently taking. In some instances, medications may negatively react with one another and this can be very dangerous to the patient. Acne medicine is no different and the patient should have a complete understanding of how it operates before using it.

The Key To Properly Treating Your Acne Is To Know What Kind Of Skin Blemish You Really Have

For many consumers the mere mention or thought of acne brings up images and visions of zits, pimples and blackheads. In fact, many people believe that these skin blemishes are the only types of acne that can infect an individual. Actually, there are at least 12 different types or widely known cases of acne. The conditions can range from a very mild case to the extreme side where severe cases of acne can occur.

Usually the more mild symptoms and cases of acne can be easily treated with over the counter acne solutions; unfortunately the more stubborn and severe cases almost always require the assistance of a certified health profession such as a dermatologist to provide powerful acne fighting skin cleansers in order to treat the more advanced skin blemishes. Another misconception is that acne only appears on the face and forehead. Actually, acne can appear on many different parts of the body to include the back, chest, legs and arms of an individual.

The most common form of acne, that everyone normally associates skin blemishes with, is called Acne Vulgaris. This name actually does stand for the term common acne and is responsible for ruining many prom nights and first dates based on its ability to produce blackheads, papules, cysts and nodules.

Speaking of blackheads, although many people use this term interchangeably with acne, a blackhead is actually what occurs when the pores of our skin cells become partially clogged or blocked. These clogged pores allow for sebum and other bacteria, such as dead skin cells to rise to the surface where they turn black once exposed to the air. Blackheads differ from whiteheads in the fact that whiteheads are generally under the skin's surface and occur when the cell pores become fully blocked by bacteria, dead cells and sebum.

Pustules are what many people commonly refer to as zits or pimples. This skin blemish usually appears as a red circle on the skin with a yellow or whitish center. Their counterparts, the papules, are small tender red bumps that appear on the skin and are very irritating. Papules have the ability to cause acne scarring if they are squeezed or popped so the most prevalent advice is to avoid touching them if at all possible.

There are several forms of acne that are prone to scarring and they include nodules, which form as hardened lumps under the skin's surface. They usually have a longer life cycle of several months, are extremely painful and require the assistance of a dermatologist to properly treat them. Cysts are almost exactly like nodules except that they are filled with a substance known as pus. As mentioned before with nodules, they are very painful and best treated by a dermatologist based on their propensity to scarring.

The really scary forms of acne include Acne Conglobata and Acne Fulminans. These extreme forms of acne are uncommon but when diagnosed can be extremely painful, form large lesions all over the body and are very prone to scarring. These are very nasty skin blemishes that clearly need to be treated by a professional dermatologist because the typical treatment to control this form of acne requires oral steroids.

Gram-Negative Folliculitis is a skin condition that is bacterial in nature and usually causes cysts and pustules. Another radical form of acne that only affects females is known as Pyoderma Faciale. It can lead to scarring due to the appearance of cysts, pustules and nodules. The final form of acne is called Acne Rosacea and it looks like a mild rash that is colored red on the face. It can have pimples and zits as an offshoot and generally it targets females over males and it is predominately diagnosed in people that are 30 years or older.

As you can see, there are a wide variety of acne related skin blemishes that affect thousands upon thousands of consumers on a daily basis. Some forms have very mild and easily treatable symptoms while others are more difficult to control and require the intervention of a trained dermatologist in order to prevent scarring. The key to properly treating your acne or skin blemish is to determine what form of acne you are currently suffering from.

Do I Need to Stop My Acne Skin Care Regimen During Pregnancy?

Pregnancy usually brings along with it a host of medical concerns which prompt behavioral and lifestyle changes. It is common knowledge that pregnant women should avoid smoking and drinking, not to mention some excessively physical activities. But there are also a host of other medicines and procedures which should be avoided during pregnancy. So, the question is, how does pregnancy affect acne skin care regimens?

Many acne medicines are quite explicit about the fact that you should not use them during pregnancy. Roaccutane and Accutane are certainly among these. For those of us that have used the products, the medicine packaging picturing a pregnant woman with an ?X? over her sent a strong message that they should not be used if you are, or might become pregnant. There are other medicines, such as Tetracycline tablets and topical retinoids such as Tretinoin and Adapalene which can have detrimental effects on the bones and teeth of developing fetuses. While these medicines should clearly be avoided because of the detrimental effects they have on your baby, there are other medicines which should potentially be stopped simply because they are no longer appropriate when pregnant.

Pregnancy is often associated with a period of drier than normal skin. As a result, a number of acne medicines which are designed specifically to dry out the skin, namely benzoyl peroxide cream or gel may no longer be appropriate.

But does this mean that there are no acne skin care regimens that can be followed? Absolutely not. There are in fact a number of milder and often natural solutions which can contribute to healthier acne free skin which either have no, or even positive effects on your child. To replace harsh creams or gels designed to dry out the skin, an excellent alternative is tea tree oil. A milder facial wash can also provide the cleansing effect of an acne wash without over-drying your skin, which is naturally drier due to pregnancy. But because you may be giving up some of the acne fighting power by switching over to a milder wash, it is a good idea to supplement your acne fighting regimen with some natural clay masks such as Kaolin and Bentonite which will absorb oil and clear blocked pores naturally.

The second avenue through which pregnant women can clear up their skin while positively affecting the health of the child, is through their diet. By consuming higher quantities of raw vegetables, whose antioxidant properties serve to take free radicals (also referred to as bacteria) out of your system, you can cut down on the amount of bacteria released through your pores. In addition, by cutting back on the quantity of sugars and refined carbohydrates that you eat, you will naturally cut down on the amount of sebum or oil that your body produces. This will keep your pores clearer and allow the bacteria which passes through your pores to come out cleanly and without causing infection and acne. These approaches, in addition to providing you with clearer skin, are a safe and healthy alternative to acne fighting while simultaneously improving the health of your child.

Top 10 Tips to Avoid Acne

You're Not Alone. Over 90% of us will have acne at some point in our lives. Many people will continue to have acne as adults. There are likely many factors that play a role in adult acne: genetics, hormones, the environment, stress and using the wrong skin care products. The tips below will help you to effectively manage acne and achieve clear, healthy skin.

    1. Use chemical-free, natural skin care products to cleanse your pores and minimize new blemishes from forming. Cleansing your face every day with the right skin care products is the first and most important step to achieve clear, healthy skin.

    2. Always use a clean washcloth every time you wash your face. Acne causing bacteria can quickly form on damp washcloths and transfer back to your skin the next time you use it. You must use a clean washcloth ever morning and night.

    3. Keep hair and hands off your face. Both contain excess dirt and oils that transfer to your face causing pores to clog and bacteria to grow. Keeping your pores clean is critical to your success in fighting acne.

    4. Drink lots of water and eat a balanced diet including fruits and vegetables. A healthy diet is important for great skin and water helps to flush away toxins while hydrating your skin.

    5. Don't pick! Picking at or pinching blemishes transfers excess oils and will cause deeper acne lesions which may scar. The best strategy is to get your acne under control fast by using a (non-chemical) natural acne treatment every morning and night.

    6. Acne on the back and shoulders can be aggravated by wearing clothing that doesn't allow the skin to breathe. Always wear breathable fabrics like cotton and shower immediately after workouts to remove excess sweat, dirt, and oils.

    7. Your skin reflects your overall health and well being. It is important to manage your stress levels by getting enough sleep. Your skin needs rest to rebuild and repair itself. Exercise will help to reduce stress while maximizing oxygen delivery to the skin.

    8. Women should not use heavy oil-based lotions and makeup. It is important to only use oil-free makeup that allows your skin to breathe. Oil-based makeup can trap synthetic chemicals and oil in your pores causing bacteria and acne to form.

    9. Avoid excess consumption of refined sugar and nutritional supplements that contain iodine. Your body needs to work hard to process these sugars and studies have show a correlation between diets high in refined sugar and acne.

    10. Don't smoke. Not only is it bad for your lungs, it can also affect your skin's health and ability to heal. Smoking can dry out your skin and also cause wrinkles!

    Acne Care for Adults

Roughly 20% of acne cases being treated in the United States belong to adults. For many adults, what was thought of as a teenage affliction has continued well into their twenties and thirties. For other adults suffering from acne, the outbreaks did not start until they reached their twenties.

The causes of adult acne vary and can be any one or a combination of the following conditions.

    Stress

Until recently, stress related acne was a myth. Researchers are now beginning to understand the correlation between stress and acne. For adult acne sufferers, stress is considered to be the leading cause to post-pubescent breakouts.

When we are exposed to stressful situations, the brain triggers the central nervous system, which in turn sends signals to the rest of the body as part of a primitive fight or flight response. Part of this response is hormonal release from our adrenal glands and fatty secretions from the sebaceous glands, which lay beneath the skin.

Both hormonal imbalance and fatty secretions, which can clog pores, are known contributors to acne outbreaks.

    Hormonal Imbalances

Hormonal imbalances as a cause of adult acne primarily affect women. Imbalances that occur during a woman?s menstrual cycle or as a result of pregnancy can lead to acne outbreaks.

There are adult males who report that they have monthly acne episodes. While men obviously do not menstruate, it is believed that men may have hormonal cycles similar to women.

Coffee Consumption Adults tend to ingest more coffee than do teens. The caffeine in coffee and tea promotes the production of cortisol, which is also known as the stress hormone. As noted, hormone imbalances are known contributors to adult acne.

    Smoking

The chemicals introduced into the body by cigarette smoking limit blood circulation to skin cells, inhibiting the skin?s ability to heal and regenerate. The toxins released in cigarette smoke can clog pores and promote bacterial growth in pores, all of which contributes to adult acne.

    Heredity

Recent research has shown that people are more likely to suffer from adult acne if they have a family history of adult acne sufferers.

Environmental Job conditions that expose the skin to high levels of pollutants, irritants, or humidity can lead to an increase in adult acne.

    Cosmetics

?Poorly formulated cosmetics that are heavy or greasy can clog skin pores, trapping bacteria, dirt, and oils resulting in adult acne breakouts. Covering acne with makeup can make the condition worse.

Everything You Need to Know about Acne

Acne or commonly known as zits or pimples are skin inflammation affecting 87% of the total US population. They usually appear during puberty because of abnormal response of the body to the male hormone known as testosterone.

    Causes

Until now, the causes of acne are still being investigated. However, scientific studies show that it can be hereditary. Other factors linked to zits are the following:

    1. Skin irritation.

    2. Use of Anabolic steroids. Most body builders are taking these synthetic hormones for faster growth of muscles and bone tissues.

    3. Stress that increase hormones from adrenal glands.

    4. Exposure to chlorine compounds like chlorinated dioxins.

    Treatment

Most people who are suffering from acne on their teens notice decrease or total disappearance of acne when they reach their early twenties without seeking treatment. However, there are some who are suffering from it for decades. The following are proven treatment against acne.

    1. Exfoliation.

This can be done through the use of liquid scrub, abrasive cloth, or other exfoliating agents that allow the skin to peel to prevent dead skin cells build-up. This process also unblocks clogged pores.

    2. Antibiotics.

There are 2 kinds of antibiotics that are being used to treat acne: These are topical antibiotics and oral antibiotics.

Topical antibiotics are applied directly to the affected area. They are being used to remove bacteria trapped on the follicles. This is more popular compare to oral antibiotics because it eliminates possible side effects like drug interactions or stomach upset.

Oral antibiotics on the other hand regulate cell behaviour and reduce oil secretion to unclog the pores.

    3. Hormonal treatments.

This treatment works best for females. Oral contraceptive pills contains progestogen and oestrogen that can help in reducing acne. Some dermatologists administer an injection containing cortisone directly to a large pimple that reduces inflammation and redness almost immediately.

    Advanced treatments

Dermatologists are now considering the use of laser surgery not only to reduce acne scars but also to prevent acne formation. This can be done by burning the sebaceous gland and follicle sac to induce oxygen that kills the bacteria causing acne. This is recommended to people who are suffering from severe acne.

    Acne scars

Severe acne leaves scars that are very expensive and difficult to treat. Although there are no guarantees that acne scars will be removed completely, there are scar treatments that lessen them. These are the following:

    1. Dermabrasions.

This treatment removes the top layer of the skin using high-speed wire brush making the acne scar less visible. People who are suffering from severe acne will need multiple treatments to get desired results. This can only be done by cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists.

    2. Microdermabrasion.

The newest technique in dermatology that enhances dermabrasion. This is being done by rubbing tiny crystals on the affected area using suction tool.

    3. Chemical peeling.

This treatment uses organic acid like salicylic, glycolic, or lactic acid to remove the top layer of the skin so that smoother layer will surface. This is generally painless and does not require anaesthetic.

    Prevention

Several books were introduced in the market stating that acne can be prevented by following strict diet and avoiding dairy products. They also suggest that adequate exercise and proper hygiene can save anyone from acne problem.

Acne can be a tough case however, knowing how to keep it away from your face is the strongest weapon you can have to enjoy a beautiful face and life.
