How To Take Care Of A Skin Condition Naturally

Borage Oil

Borage oil, also known as starflower oil and borage seed oil, comes from the seeds of the borage plant (Borago officinalis). People are deficient in GLA due to aging, glucose intolerance, dietary fat intake, etc. And this is actually where borage oil supplements come in. Borage oil offers an abundant source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is noted for having a lot of health benefits.

Health Benefits

ARTHRITIS

Borage oil has both anti-inflammatory and antithrombotic properties, and as such, it has been used to help with rheumatoid arthritis, in terms of joint pain and swelling. Borage oil appears to be effective in some cases of arthritis and may even help with other inflammatory ailments, such as Sjogren's syndrome and ulcerative colitis.

SKIN CONDITIONS

Aside from this, borage oil is said to also help with skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema. It is believed to be able to reduce skin inflammation, dryness, scaliness, and itchiness.

There was a study made of borage oil which involved a group of children suffering from the skin condition infantile seborrheic dermatitis. They were treated with borage oil, and after 10-12 days, ?all of the children were free from skin lesions, even in the areas not treated with borage. Moreover, using the oil topically two to three times a week kept the seborrhea in remission until the patients were six to seven months old.? However, there was also a study wherein patients who suffered from eczema were given borage oil. And unfortunately, they were unable to experience similar results.

OTHERS

Borage oil is also believed to be able to help with cancer. ?Borage oil has been used with some preliminary success in some cancers, principally cerebral gliomas.?

In addition, it has also been used to help with the inflammation of the lungs, as well as symptoms of menopausal disorders.

Side Effects

People sometimes experience mild side effects when taking borage oil supplements such as bloating, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea and headache. Call the doctor, though, if you experience side effects such as stomach upset, stomach pain, yellowing eyes and skin, and dark urine.

When not to use

Borage seeds from which borage oil is derived from, supposedly contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA), which are toxic to the liver. Hence, do not take borage oil supplements if you have any liver problems.

People who are pregnant, as well as those with seizure disorders, hemophilia/other hemorrhagic diatheses, and immune deficiency disorders like AIDS should consult a doctor first before taking borage oil supplements.

Drug Interactions

Those with hemophilia or other hemorrhagic diatheses that take anticoagulants like warfarin and antiplatelet drugs (e.g. aspirin & NSAIDs) should avoid borage oil supplements. In addition, supplements that have antithrombotic activity such as fish oils should also avoid taking borage oil. This is because it would result in negative effects such as nosebleeds, as well as a susceptibility to bruising.

Secondly, those with seizure disorders such as schizophrenia who are taking neuroleptic medications such as aliphatic phenothiazines (e.g. chlorpromazine) should also avoid using borage oil, since it can lead to other types of seizures.

Lastly, borage oil should not be used with herbs such as garlic (Allium sativum) and ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba).

The 4 Golden Rules to Follow When Applying Acne Creams

Basically there are two types of acne treatment in common use. The first is one you apply to your skin (topical) and the second is the sort you swallow (tablets). Your medical advisor will assess which type is best suited for you. This article is about maximising the effectiveness of topical acne treatments.

Too many of us only reach for these treatments when we feel a spot is about to erupt, hoping for a miracle to occur instantly. Unfortunately all topical (creams, lotions, gels) require time, and your patience in order to be effective. You are setting yourself up for failure, if you apply the cream to a tiny spot waiting for it to disappear. Here are the 4 golden rules you should follow, if you want to make the most of your topical acne treatments:

1.Apply the cream liberally to all areas affected by the acne, even when there are no spots visible. Acne creams work below the surface and help prevent new spots from forming.

2.Applying more cream does not result in faster results. The only real consequence of doing this is a likely adverse reaction from your skin, making it look red and inflamed.

3.Acne creams often cause the skin to become dry and red. If this happens to you, get yourself an oil-free moisturiser and apply it on top of the acne treatment. Wait about 20mins before applying the moisturiser to allow the treatment to be fully absorbed into the skin.

4.If you plan to wear make-up over the treatments, make sure it is oil-free or ?acne-friendly?. Some make-up manufacturers label this specific type of product as being ?non-comedogenic?, which may help you identify suitable products. Of course you must ensure you remove all your make-up before you apply your acne treatment at night.

If you follow these simple guidelines, you?ll dramatically improve your chances of effectively treating your acne with topical treatments. Remember this type of treatment does not result in instant results.

Skin Scabies

Scabies, a transmissible ectoparasite skin infection, is characterized by superficial burrows, secondary infection and intense itching. This makes good sense as the actual word 'scabies' is Latin for 'itch'.

Unlike alot of different infections and diseases the cause of scabies is actually known. Caused by the mite, variety hominis, it intensifies which results in extremely itchy skin that rashes. This itchiness is because the pregnant female mites tunnel into the stratum corneum of the skin to deposit eggs in the burrow. Hatching in 3-10 days, the larvae, will move about in the skin. It is in the skin where they become mature adults. Adult mites will usually live in the skin for three to four weeks. Although, the mites aren't able to live their entire life in the skin, they are able to cause alot of itching and hassle before they finally die.

As you can imagine the existance of mites in your skin is extremely irritating and creates a huge itch sensation. Often times this step will look alot like an allergic reaction on the skin, which isn't far off as the presense of the mite eggs inside the skin will produce a humongous allergic response. All of this just leads to more itching which is extremely damaging to the skin. Scabies, as you can see is an absolute pain, as it causes constant irritation. If the itching sensation is given into on a regular basis, often times sores will develop on the skin, which in turn lead to increased risk of infection.

Sometimes classes as a sexual disease, scabies can easily transmit by prolonged skin-to-skin contact with an infected person. Often times it will rip through an entire household through the sharing of clothing, bedding or towels. These second hand methods of transmission are rarer, than first hand skin-to-skin, although they should still be noted. Three hundred million is the approximate number of scabies infestation cases around the world each year.

Aloe Vera

Out of the 400 species of the Aloe family, Aloe Vera (meaning True Aloe) has been used for thousands of years and is still present in varieties of medicines today. It is used predominantly as an herbal remedy for the skin, digestion, the reproductive system and detox. A gel or pulp can be extracted from the plants for many benefits, both externally and internally.

It is most commonly used to treat skin conditions by soothing the skin and easing pain and inflammation. It can even speed up the healing process of burns, eczema and other conditions. The plant?s gel can be rubbed to reduce redness after a couple of days. Rubbing the leaf over cuts in the skin can prevent infection and speed up the healing process by acting like a bandage. Because of its healing and moisturising benefits to the skin, it has been adopted by cosmetic companies and added in many products.

The juice of Aloe Vera can be extracted by cutting the leaf, collecting the juice and then evaporating it. The juice has many benefits when drunk. This is partially due to the fact that it contains twelve vitamins (including A, B1, B6, B12, C and E), nineteen amino acids and over 20 minerals, which most of these are essential to the body. In Ayurveda, the Indian health practice, Aloe Vera is known as Kumari (?the princess?) because of its positive effect on the menstrual cycle and female reproductive system. It is also known for its ability to clean the liver and protect the digestive system by reducing intestinal inflammation.

Overall, Aloe Vera can be used for cosmetics and healing the skin, or when consumed, as a potent cleansing and rejuvenating tonic that is very nutrient rich and beneficial to the body. You can buy Aloe Vera juice at my store, http://www.vigovitamins.com . It is made only from the unfiltered inner gel of the whole plant, not the outer rind, which means less processing and more active ingredients are retained.

Omega3 Fatty Acids and AntioxidantsA New Improved Source

As a result of the ongoing wellness revolution, more and more people are learning that they need to add high quality nutritional supplements to their diet in order to help prevent and reverse a wide array of chronic degenerative diseases. The basic reason for this is very simple--we are genetically programmed to eat only the simple, whole foods that were consumed by our stone-age ancestors. To whatever degree we deviate from this kind of diet, we deprive our bodies of key necessary nutrients and ingest substances that actually cause them harm. (93)

Tragically, about 90% of the average American diet now consists of mummified foods that are lacking in the key nutrients we need; even worse, they commonly contain a wide array of ingredients that are either downright toxic or that seriously disrupt the functioning of our bodies in many ways. And even the natural produce we eat--unless it is organic and vine-ripened--is likely to be deficient in many key micronutrients that our bodies need in order to be healthy. (173)

To make matters worse, the cells of our bodies are now increasingly subject to damage from free radicals due to the high levels of environmental toxins in our diet and the reduced levels of antioxidants in our food to combat free radical damage.

One nutritional supplement that nearly everyone needs is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids to counterbalance the excessive amounts of omega-6 oils that are in the average diet. Although the ideal dietary ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fats is 1:1, it's commonly in the range of 1:20 to 1:50. An estimated 85% - 95% of North Americans are omega-3 deficient. The increased level of inflammation in our bodies caused by this imbalance is a common factor in many forms of chonic disease, including arthritis and heart disease.

To help curtail free radical damage, nearly everyone also needs to supplement with high quality antioxidants. These are of key importance in helping to prevent many diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and mental decline associated with aging. There is much evidence that they actually slow the aging process itself.

A very new supplement--Neptune Krill Oil--is now available and is unsurpassed in meeting both of these key needs. Produced from minuscule krill that are harvested in the icy waters of the Antarctic, it not only provides a much richer source of omega-3 fatty acids than fish oil, but also includes unique phospholipids that markedly increase their absorption into all of the cells in our bodies.

These phospholipids are also important building blocks for cell membranes, protect these membranes against free radical attack and other toxic injury, and serve as cellular gate-keepers. Moreover, they are an important source of choline, which is of key importance in brain development and functioning. In addition, they also contribute importantly to protecting the liver and promote the production of healthy HDL cholesterol.

In addition, krill oil contains one of the most powerful natural antioxidants yet discovered--anastaxthin, a carotenoid that gives krill their distinctive reddish color and protects them from solar radiation. Independent laboratory testing has shown it to be 300 times more powerful as an antioxidant than vitamins A and E and 47 times more potent than fish oil and lutein. Since it's also 100% bioavailable, it's readily absorbed into our cells. It simultaneously prevents the oil from becoming rancid and provides powerful cellular protection against damage by free radicals. Since krill oil is markedly more bioavailable, the daily recommended dosage is only one-fifth as much as with fish oil.

This product is also unique in containing the very first flavonoid ever discovered in the animal world. As is commonly true of plant flavonoids, this co-factor works synergistically with other ingredients in producing major health benefits.

Another very attractive feature of this new product is its safety. Since krill feed on algae and are at the very bottom of the food chain, they are not contaminated by heavy metals and other industrial pollutants that are commonly found in fish. For this reason, krill oil is completely free of these toxins. Since the FDA and EPA have recently issued warnings that eating fish and shellfish is unsafe for pregnant or nursing mothers and also for young children, this is one of the very important advantages of krill oil over fish oil.

Clinical trials of this product, along with several double-blind placebo controlled studies, indicate that it has the following health benefits:

- Helps to reduce inflammation in heart blood vessels

- Promotes healthy joints and decreases arthritic pain due to inflammation

- Improves concentration and memory

- Helps to counteract effects of aging

- Provides cell membrane protection

- Improves levels of blood lipids and cholesterol

- Improves liver function

- Alleviates PMS symptoms and pain associated with menstruation

- Bolsters the immune system

- Increases energy and improves mood

- Promotes skin health

- Helps to stablize blood sugar levels

- Contributes to the health of the brain and nervous system

It's very important not to confuse Neptune Krill Oil with imitations that are not subject to the same rigorous quality controls in production and which have not been used in the extensive scientific investigations of this specific product.

How to Gain Weight and Build More Muscle!

For many thin guys around the world, gaining weight without using illegal steroids has been a challenge. For thousands of lean young men, the dream is to gain weight, but no matter how much they eat they remain thin. Some people are naturally thin; that means their genetic makeup is in such a way that the body burns more calories than others. The very basic method of weight gain is to eat more calories than your body burns off. By providing the body with more calories, this balance can be altered and body mass can be increased. Weight training is of great importance in this context, which enables the body to absorb more nutrients from the food by increasing the level of certain hormones and increasing the muscle mass.

There are many incorrect beliefs and theories bout building muscle. The type of food to be eaten is an important factor which decides the type of weight gained, whether it is muscle mass or mere accumulation of fat. Some types of calories are not equal to others for gaining muscle; because most processed junk food contains empty, totally nutritionless calories. These foods promote accelerated fat storage, and do not provide the body with the correct nutrients essential for gaining muscle. High quality protein, which the body breaks down into amino acids, should be the centerpiece of all your meals. Intense exercise increases demand for amino acids, which support muscle repair and growth.

Another factor is the selection of the right type of weight training. Resistance exercises will help with muscle growth. Whereas aerobic exercises can result in the reduction of weight. For maximum muscle gain, the focus of your workouts should consist of free weight exercises, rather than machines or bodyweight exercises. To get a very effective workout, you must stimulate as many muscle fibers as possible, and machines do not do this. The main reason for this is a lack of stabilizer and synergist muscle development. Stabilizer and synergist muscles are supporting muscles that assist the main muscle in performing a complex lift.

The results of weight training can vary from person to person, and will usually depend on your consistency and commitment to your program. You should have the patience and motivation for building a powerful body with a consistent diet and exercise schedule.

Exercise Guidelines for building muscle:

Weight training involves the use of equipment that enables variable resistance. This resistance can come in the form of free weights like barbells and dumbbells, machines that use cables or pulleys to help you lift the weight, and bodyweight exercises like pull-ups or dips. The more stabilizers and synergists you work, the more muscle fibers stimulated. The exercises that work the large muscle groups are called compound (or multi-joint) movements that involve the simultaneous stimulation of many muscle groups. These compound exercises should be the foundation of any weight training program because they stimulate the most amount of muscle in the least amount of time. Multi-jointed free weight exercises like the bench press require many stabilizer and synergistic muscle assistance to complete the lift.

Free weight exercises like the dumbbell press or squat put a very large amount of stress on supporting muscle groups. You will get fatigued faster and not be able to lift as much weight as you did on the machine. But you will gain more muscle, become stronger very quickly and have a true gauge of your strength.

If you use machines in your program, they should be used to work isolated areas and only after all multi-jointed exercises have been completed. Beginners should begin with a limited combination of machine exercises, bodyweight exercises and multi-jointed free weight exercises. Before increasing the weight levels, they should work on becoming familiar with the proper form and execution of each.

The following are some proven basic exercises to encourage muscle and strength gain unlike any other exercises.

Bench Presses - works the chest, shoulders, triceps

Overhead Presses - shoulders, triceps

Pull-ups/Barbell Rows - back, bicep

Squats - legs, lower back

Dead lifts - legs, back, shoulders

Bar Dips -shoulders, chest, arms

To build mass, you must weight train with heavy weights. To consider a weight heavy, you should only be able to do a maximum of 4-8 reps before your muscles temporarily fail. A weight is considered 'light' if you can do more than 15 reps before muscle fatigue sets in. Heavy weights stimulate more muscle fibers than lighter weights which result in more muscle growth. Heavy weight training puts a huge strain on your body, so adequate rest and recuperation after your workouts is essential.

Eating guidelines for building muscle:

A high protein diet is an inevitable part of any weight training programme, importantly, protein derived from animal sources. Proteins you need to be concerned with are those found in whey, casein (cottage cheese), eggs, beef, poultry, and fish. Soy protein, tofu and bean curd are some alternatives. Eating the right amount of foods consistently will force your body to grow beyond what you may think possible. The diet also should contain an adequate amount of carbohydrates (potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cream of rice, rice, beans, bread, pasta, all cereals) and fat. Green leafy vegetables and fruits also should be included.

When you train with weights, you should eat a minimum of 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. You also must have protein at every meal. To enable your body to actually assimilate and use the all the calories you will ingest, you have to reduce your meal size and increase your meal frequency. Splitting your calories into smaller, more frequent portions will enable food absorption and utilization of nutrients.

During the past 20 years there have been great developments in the scientific understanding of the role of nutrition in health and physical performance. Studies shown that adequate dietary carbohydrate should be ingested (55-60% of total energy intake) so that training intensity can be maintained. Excess dietary saturated fat can exacerbate coronary artery disease; however, low-fat diets result in a reduction in circulating testosterone. So the balance between protein, carbohydrate and fat should be maintained.

So the focus on weight gain programmes must be on two components, lifting heavy weights, which will stimulate the largest amount of muscle fibers. Your body responds to this stimulus by increasing your muscle mass and secondly eat more calories than your body is used to. When you overload your system with plenty of protein and fats, your body has no other choice but to gain weight.

A Mass Gaining program is incomplete without the timely measurements to monitor your progress. Without it, you won't know how exactly your body is responding to your diet and training routine. Just looking in the mirror and guessing is not acceptable. If you want to start getting great results, you must develop the habit of accurately tracking your progress. This also provides the motivation to continue with the weight gain schedule and for the further progression. So even though you have a very thin body type, and haven?t been able to gain weight no matter what you try, you will definitely succeed with a well planned weight gain programme.

Importance of Your Skin's pH

One of the most important roles of our skin is to protect our ?insides? from the external environment, acting both as a barrier and a filter between ?outside? and ?inside?. In addition, the skin is involved in regulating our body?s temperature, like when we have a fever or we?re physically working hard, we tend to sweat, which is the body?s way to attempt to lower the temperature.

Another important role of our skin is to protect us from harmful substances entering our body, and in eliminating toxins. This takes workload off our Liver and Kidneys to filter out by-products from our body?s metabolism. The skin also breathes!

Hormones, Sweat glands and pH

The pores of our skin are made up of a combination of oil and sweat glands (sebaceous and sudoriferous glands) helping to keep our skin healthy and elastic. An excessive sebum secretion is often associated with oily skin and acne. This is particularly common in adolescents as the increased levels of sex hormones stimulate sebum production and secretion. When in balance, the combined excretion of oil and sweat from the skin?s pores has a pH of about 5.5.

The Acid Mantle, Age and the importance of the skin's pH

This slightly acidic layer, also referred to as the ?Acid Mantle?, is our body?s first defence mechanism against bacteria invading it and is not a favourable environment bacterial growth to occur. This defence layer develops at puberty, which is why children are more susceptible to disease, viruses and fungal infections such are ringworm. The pH of children?s skin is closer to neutral (pH 7).

At puberty, however, we start to produce more hair on our bodies. Hair follicles have an associated sebaceous gland or glands which become active as hair growth increases, causing changes in the skin?s pH. The hormones that control sweat also become active and the whole surface of a teenager?s skin is totally different to that of a young child. This is our body?s way to increase our defence system.

The pH of normal, healthy human skin is somewhere between 4.5 and 6. However, this varies with age. Typically, newborns have a pH closer to neutral (pH 7) that quickly turns acidic in order to protect young children?s skin.

In the late teens to early 20?s, our Acid Mantle is well developed and provides good protection against potentially harmful, external environmental factors. Our skin usually looks healthy, heals quickly when injured and seems to take care of itself.

With increasing age however, the skin?s pH becomes more and more neutral, and thus more susceptible to bacterial growth. This reduced acidity kills fewer bacteria than before, leaving the skin susceptible to bacterial growth and infections. The skin weakens as a result and begins developing problems with increasing age. (Interestingly, the pH value rises beyond 6 when a person actually suffers from a skin problem or skin disease.)

The aging process of the skin causes biochemical changes in collagen and elastin, the connective tissues underlying the skin, which give the skin its firmness (collagen) and elasticity (elastin). The rates of loss of skin firmness and elasticity differs from individual to individual, depending on their genetic makeup, general health, over exposure to the sun, skin care regime, or lack there of, and other factors.

As the skin becomes less elastic, it also becomes drier; the underlying fatty tissue begins to disappear resulting in the skin beginning to sag. Our skin is less supple, and wrinkles begin to form. At this stage, our skin is more easily injured, heals more slowly and tends to dry out more quickly.

The role of pH in Acne

As outlined above, the skin?s pH is important and maintaining a slightly acidic pH of around 5.5 is critical.

The skin?s pH value is one of the major contributors to acne and other skin problems. Propionibacterium acnes is a bacteria that normally lives on the skin and is a normal bacteria found in all persons regardless of the presence or absence of acne.

However, in individuals prone to acne, the number of P. acnes is greatly increased. It has been found that the growth of this bacteria is very much dependent on the pH value of the skin and its growth is at its minimum at the normal skin pH of 5.5. A slight shift towards the alkaline pH would provide a better environment in which it can thrive.

Importance of the skin's pH: Do's & Don'ts

One of the major culprits that radically alter the pH of the skin, is soap. Ordinary, commercially available soaps are highly alkaline (pH range 9-11) and raise the skin?s pH to be much more alkaline. This can be adjusted by using products such as Wildcrafted Herbal Products' Wild Herb Toner or Milk of Roses Toner, depending on your skin type. These toners restore normal pH of the skin and thus provide an environment not conducive to the growth of bacteria. In addition, soap dries out the skin, because of its high alkalinity.

Thus if you choose to use a commercially available soap, you must restore the pH of your skin to prevent loss of moisture and the excessive growth of bacteria. It is important to remember that this applies to the entire surface of your skin, not just the face.

Instead of using ordinary soap, you need to use products such as the Skin Renewal Gel from Wildcrafted Herbal Products, which cleanses your skin, removing dead skin cells and leaving your skin?s pH as it is meant to be. Following this with the use of a Toner will close the open pores, preventing blackheads and loss of moisture from the skin.

Other factors influencing your skin's pH

Another factor that helps in regulating your skin?s pH is the presents of microflora on your skin. Staphylococcus epidermis is involved in the breakdown of fatty acids, and is therefore partly responsible for the acidic pH of skin. The use of ordinary soap, not only changes the pH of the skin to be more alkaline, effectively removing the protective acid mantle, but also kills the bacteria responsible for creating, at least in part, the acidic pH of your skin ? a double whammy.

It is therefore of great importance to have a good skin care regime in which high quality, natural skin care products are employed. There are a couple of simple steps to take before buying a particular brand of natural skin care products.

  • Identify the skin type(s) on the face. There are usually two or more. One skin type is usually isolated to the T-Zone (forehead and nose), the other applies to the rest of the facial skin.

  • Carefully select your natural skin care products. It is not good enough to choose products, which add natural ingredients to an otherwise non-natural base cr?me or lotion, as is the case in many supermarket brands. READ the label carefully, ask questions and if you are buying the products on-line, make sure there is a guarantee that allows you some time to evaluate the products before they need to be returned for a refund.

  • Look for manufacturers that have qualified herbalists or naturopaths on staff. These people generally do not support the use of artificial ingredients because it goes against everything they teach their patients, friends and family. ? For the most part, it?s a pretty good indication that the products are pure, when natural therapists are in charge of the formulation of the products.

Home Made Remedies For Healthy Skin

Here are some homemade remedies suggested by skin experts.

In order to maintain a healthy and a clear skin tone you need to use suitable medications along with a wholesome diet. In fact, the products that are manufactured are usually made up of harsh chemicals that can easily penetrate into the blood, causing damages to the other organs.

Coconut oil significantly acts as a moistening material when the skin is dry and rough. Therefore it is can be appropriately used to treat various aliments such as roughened lips, eyes, broken capillaries, cellulite or burns etc. Coconut butter can be mixed with lip balm gel, eye cream or may be preserved in sterilized jars. Besides, there are many alternative medications advised such as peppermint for lips, patchouli oil or lavender for acne, chamomile for eczema and grapefruit for cellulite.

The most commonly used ointments for sunburns are strawberries, cucumber slices, gels or the leaf of the aloe vera plant. They are often easily cured as they exhibit soothing, cooling and antifungal properties. If you keep cool tea bags or cucumber slices over the dark circles of your eyes, they will reduce the dark colors formed around the eyelids.

You can also prepare a mixture of cornstarch, baking soda or essential oil to smoothen the texture of your skin. If you are applying it to your feet add tea tree oil to the toner because it kills all the tiny microorganisms that are present.

The most important tip is to consume a healthy diet such as vegetables, fruits and plenty of water. Sleeping soundly is one of the most vital activities, as it nourishes the skin.

If you follow the above-mentioned tips you will surely develop a radiant skin texture.

Easy Ways for Great Skin Essential Tips to Keep Skin Healthy

Beautiful skin is no miracle. Like everything else, if you want it, you have got to work for it.

How do you keep your skin looking its best? I'm no skin expert, but having a skin spa as part of the salon and working with the city's top dermatologists, I have put together these five easy steps to get and keep that healthy glow.

1) Don't Skip the morning essentials: Would you leave the house naked? Your body wouldn't react too well. But that's exactly what you would be doing to your face if you leave home without cleansing, toning, moisturizing and protecting your skin every morning. Complete these steps in order and don't omit any of them. Each one is only effective if used in tandem with the others.

Protection is the most important of all. Don't leave home without a sun block. It helps slow down the aging process. Now isn't that a big incentive?

2) Stick to a nightly routine: Haven't you noticed how awful your skin looks after a bad night? That's because the skin repairs itself while we sleep. Your body has the time and energy to repair damaged cells when it is resting and not expending energy defending cells from the sun, pollution etc. Also do not forget to cleanse, followed by a moisturizing routine, using a night cream.

PROTECTION IS FOREMOST. DON'T GO OUT WITHOUT A SUNBLOCK.

3) Treat your specific problems: Don't try and cover up your problems because you can cure them. For acne, treatments include glycolic acid cleansers, creams and masks., which help exfoliate whiteheads and blackheads.

Long term use of retinol is also known to combat breakouts. The idea is to keep your skin and pores as clean as possible without drying up your skin.

For fry, flaky skin use a mild cleanser. Wash your face only when necessary, as water is drying and use a heavier moisturizer. A mild exfoliator once a week is a good idea. For oily skin, choose on oil-free range of products as even acne prone skin needs hydration.

Random Tip: Home Remedy for Oily Skin- Take 1/3 cup cocoa, three teaspoons of heavy cream, 1/3 cup ripe papaya, 1/4 cup cup honey and three teaspoons of oatmeal powder. Mix it all together. Apply on your face. After 10 minutes, wash your face with warm water. This is best for oily skin.

4) Clean up your insides: Your mama was right, you need to eat a nutritionally-balanced diet to provide your skin with the nutrients it requires to look its best. Eat plenty of raw vegetables, drink 8-10 glasses of water a day to hydrate the skin long before its time.

5) Stop the clock: We are all aware that staying out of the sun is a sure-fire way to prevent future damage such as fine lines, loss of elasticity and discoloration. But the question is, can anything undo the damage already done?

It is believed that blended antioxidants and vitamins may significantly repair long-term damage. So there is hope.

Besides, these four points here should also be of some help.

# Avoid tanning salons- they cause sun damage, premature aging and an increased risk of skin cancer.

# Visit your dermatologist annually- to detect and treat any abnormalities in your skin such as moles or freckles etc.

# Avoid the sun while taking antibiotics- many medications can make you extra sensitive to the sun

# And again, don't forget the sunscreen.

Beautiful skin doesn't just happen. You have to work at it but at the end of the day- You' re worth it.

Random Tip: As they say, whenever in doubt wear Black. Likewise, whenever in doubt related to your make-up, apply a basic kaajal pencil, a mascara and a lip-gloss. It would just compliment you so very well.

Skin Rejuvenation of The Future

Did you know that the average person has nearly 5 pounds of dead skin on them at any one time? Want to lose weight? Why not get a body wrap and full body massage? Simple enough. Only one problem that takes a lot of time and afterwards it is hard to get motivated to do much of anything.

Such a life of Bliss, yet the reality is that few of us really have the time to self indulge between all our family obligations, work and scheduled events to attend. But what if you could lose that five pounds of dead skin and look a little thinner and be a little lighter too. Think of it; Lose 5 pounds in three minutes. How so you ask? Now you are interested in this device, which will be available in the modern bathroom.

Indeed it will use high speed electron charged particles, in an air blower system, which will rapidly flow across your body connecting with and removing dead skin as the air re-circulates thru the unit on which you will stand on, about the size of a scale. Simply close your eyes and then wait for the static charge to build up and turn on the blower.

The flow will come from above your head facing your feet and the air will flow over your body to the floor vacuum unit. The dead skin will all be collected in the membranes inside which are coated with anti-bacteria material. Then turn it off, take your shower and you will be completed. Think on inventing this in 2006.

Winter Skin Care the Natural Way 7 Simple Tips for Softer Healthier Winter Skin

Winter is a wonderful time of the year - holidays, warm fires, crisp air, and for many, fresh fallen snow. But the colder temperature and lower humidity affect the condition of your skin and hair. Lower humidity just goes along with colder temperatures even if you live in a more temperate area without snow.

Here are some suggestions for winter skin care to protect your skin and hair:

1. Sun protection is very important in the winter months, just as it is year-round. Many people forget to use sunscreen, but sun reflects off snow and ice, and you can actually get double the sun exposure.

2. Sun Glasses are even more important in the winter around snow. Believe me, you don't want to know the agony of being snow blind. Without sun glasses, you squint and that lead to wrinkles around your eyes.

3. Elbows, knees, and feet are completely covered in the winter months, and usually forgotten until spring. Clothing and boots can cause friction that creates a buildup of thick skin. A good scrubbing with a natural lofah sponge, followed by a rich cream will remove any problems here.

4. The skin on your hands is thinner than on other areas of your body. Hands needs extra protection and winter skin care. Make sure that after washing your hands you dry them and use a good hand cream. Wearing gloves outdoors will also protect them and keep your skin soft.

5. Public restrooms with their hot air dryers and paper towels may be more sanitary but they are definitely hard on your hands. Carry a small tube of your favorite hand lotion in your purse.

6. Protecting your lips with a good lip balm is good winter skin care. Avoid licking your lips as much as possible, since that will cause your lips to crack and chap. Drink more water to give your lips moisture. If you get a bad case of chapped or cracked lips, use a good herbal lip balm before bed, and you should be good to go in the morning.

7. Winter winds and low humidity are also hard on your hair, and using a rich, deep hair conditioner is important to restore moisture to your hair. If you wash your hair every day, during the winter try washing it every other day. Brushing your hair every night will move the oil from your scalp onto the hair making it look healthier.

Something Itching?

It may happen to anybody. Very sure, you are not the first person who has some itching red spots on your skin. Even more, you forgot when it happened first time in your life.

Rashes mean change in the color or look of your skin. Rashes are either localized to one part, or spread all over your body. The causes and cures for rashes vary form case to case. Most often, people mean red bumps on the skin as the Rash. It represents many different conditions.

Rashes could be of different color; they may itch, be painful, be warm, feel bumpy, look dry, have crackles or blisters, swell and annoy. Doctors compare such things as the appearance, whether other signs of diseases exist, and patient's exposure to substances, patient's occupation, and family medical history.

The causes of rashes include:

1. Allergies. Different foods soaps, detergents, medicines, dyes, insect bites cause allergic rashes. A new medication may cause allergic drug rash. Medicines, which have been prescribed for years, rarely cause an allergic reaction. There is hardly a test to check whether a rash is allergic. Hence, doctors often just advice to stop a drug and to see what happen. If the rash stays for a week without the medication, it is doubtfully an allergy. Foods rarely cause allergies.

2. Contact Dermatitis. Derma = skin, dermatitis = skin inflammation. Skin contact with an irritant leads to the rash. Some people are sensitive to metals such as zinc or nickel. Example is reactions to jewelry made with nickel. Dyes and other chemicals in clothing, chemicals in latex and rubber products, cosmetics, soaps, and detergents, poison ivy, oak, or sumac may cause rashes. The mechanism is direct irritation, but may include allergic component.

There is a difference between allergy and direct toxicity. Immunologic mechanism causes allergy. It means: Immune cells of your body produce numerous immunological substances to fight infections, bugs and worms. The regulation is very complex and intricate. However, for the immune system, sometime innocent things look like a dangerous intruder. For example, latex in gloves, which is relatively safe substance, suddenly looks like a malicious worm. The immune cells start to fight this substance as if it is a bug. The immune cells produce huge quantities of fighting chemicals, which normally should kill a worm. However, in this innocent situation, those substances attack own body and cause the rash. The good intentions were to kill the non-existing bug and to prevent it's spreading all over the body. Direct toxicity is just direct toxicity; no duped immune cells were involved.

Why is it important to distinguish? Because, the treatment and prevention of these two conditions might vary.

3. Seborrheic dermatitis appears as rash with patches of red and scaling skin. It happens often on scalp, eyebrows, mouth, nose, ears and on trunk. Seborrheic dermatitis on scalp has name dandruff. Seborrheic dermatitis on scalp in children is named cradle cap.

4. Eczema happens in people with allergies or asthma. The rash has scaly, itchy skin patches. Atopic dermatitis is a common form of eczema. Atopic dermatitis is hereditary skin disease. Atopic diseases happen in families. They include: hay fever, asthma, and atopic dermatitis. Those all are allergic diseases. Atopic dermatitis commonly starts from childhood. Chapped cheeks and scales on the scalp, arms, legs, and trunk, represent atopic dermatitis.

Atopic dermatitis also hurts elbows and knees. Adults may get atopic dermatitis all over the body. Red skin itches, swells, cracks, weeps, crusts, and makes scales in atopic dermatitis. It is often worse in the winter. There is no obvious reason, why atopic dermatitis starts. Sometime atopic dermatitis does not look as an allergic reaction.

5. Infections produce rashes often. Scaly patches are signs of fungal or bacterial infection Fungal infections happen often, though less than eczema. Scaly rashes are not always fungal ringworm. According to some studies, people with good hygiene, also get fungus. Fungus can be transmitted form person to person in gyms, showers, pools. However, again some dermatologists found in studies that the transmission is not so common.

Impetigo is common bacterial infection of skin, caused by staphylococcus or streptococcus bacteria. The appearance is of bumps or patches all over your skin. Impetigo in children looks like red sores that become blisters, ooze and crust.

Viral infections include herpes viruses. The viruses could be Herpes simplex or Herpes zoster. Zoster means belt-like. Herpes zoster virus causes shingles. It also causes chickenpox in children. Viral rashes last up to a week. They are usually symmetrical. Patients may have additional signs (coughing, sneezing, nausea, watery itching eyes, etc). Shingles are painful blisters on skin. The virus sits quietly in neural cells for years and flares up when your immunity is down after another disease or cold.

Children also suffer chickenpox, rubella, measles, fifth disease, roseola, hand-foot-mouth disease, scarlet fever, etc. They all may cause rashes.

Typhus, viral or bacterial, different types of hemorrhagic fevers and bunch of other diseases also develop rashes. However, those diseases show rarely in developed countries.

6. Reaction to a vaccine Serious reactions to vaccines happen rarely.

7. Acne includes several types: acne (pimples, zits) range from mild to severely disfiguring. Acne Vulgaris is the most common. It includes blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. Whiteheads appear when a pore is totally blocked. It traps oil and, bacteria. Blackheads happen when a pore is only partially blocked. The black color is the result of the reaction between oxygen and skin pigments. Red, tender bumps are named papules. Inflamed whitehead would form a pustule (a small vesicle with pus). It looks like a red circle with yellowish center. Big, hard bumps under the skin's surface are named nodules. Cysts look similar to nodules. They contain pus and have diameter more than five mm.

Acne Rosacea appears as a red rash on cheeks, nose, or chin mostly. Small blood vessels become dilated on the skin. It is more characteristic for adults.

Acne Conglobata presents as numerous large lesions on the face, chest, back, arms, and thighs. The Acne Conlgobata is a severe form requiring aggressive treatment.

Acne Fulminans represents severe nodulo-cystic acne. Scarring is common. Acne Fulminans also causes fever and joints aches.

8. Hives (urticaria) look like itchy, red wheals. Their reasons vary and are not always predictible.

9. Autoimmune disorders such as dermatomyositis, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis may produce characteristic rashes. Some rashes are very distinguishable. Watch out butterfly rash.

10. Psoriasis is a hereditary condition, which affects skin and joints. Skin is mostly affected in characteristic areas near elbows and knees with appearance of silvery scales. Psoriasis often looks like red, itchy patches over joints and along the scalp. Fingernails suffer too.

11. Cancer or other disease may give several types of rashes. Obviously, skin cancers have specific appearance, but other cancers may affect skin too.

12. Sun burns and other burns also cause rash, pain and itching

13. Lead poisoning may give some rashes that are not so easy to suspect, unless you know about the patient's contact with lead.

14. Skin irritation, for example rubbing of clothing, will cause the rash at the site of rubbing.

15. Some rashes may happen during pregnancy.

16. Pityriasis rosea produces scaly patches on the chest and back.

17. Xerosis means dry skin. This disease may also appear as a rash during the cold, dry months of the year. 18. Kawasaki disease, Henoch Shoenlein purpura, insecct bites or stings and many other medical conditions cause a rashes as well.

In majority cases with a simple rash, good skin care and avoidance of skin irritants will improve your condition. However, a good idea is to check with your doctor. The cause of the rash may be a serious disease. Rash appearance, sensations, type of spreading and changes of the rash over the time give the clues for diagnostics of certain diseases.

Overlooked Antiaging Skin Care Agents

One antiaging skin care treatment of age-old renown has gotten a very bad rap of late. With all the scary tales about skin cancer, hardly anyone respects thermal therapy by natural sunlight as healthy anymore.

It's as if the lone star in our solar system has become the devil in our heaven. Sunlight is still good. Regardless of the diminishing ozone layer, we still need to get our share of skin care from nature.

Natural sunlight is still the best antiaging skin care agent we can apply, because healthy skin is more than surface appearance. Good topical applications are temporary fixes - cosmetics, actually. Healthy skin starts from deep inside.

Types of skin aging

Skin experts talk about two types of skin aging. If we know what these are, maybe our antiaging skin care efforts can be more successful. The types of skin aging are:

  • Chronological skin aging, and
  • Photoaging
  • The first is described as a universal process which we cannot do anything about. Photoaging is said to be caused by ultraviolet radiation (UVR), and this kind of skin damage is apparent in over-exposed skin.

Photoaging causes dry and sallow skin with fine wrinkles and deep furrows. It occurs when the structure of the dermis and the epidermis is altered by UVR.

Antiaging skin care products give the impression of youthfulness by masking these appearances. More focus should be given to healing from within.

Yes, we can help chronological aging I do not completely agree that we cannot do anything about chronological aging. The fact that people who have healthy lifestyle habits tend to look better and live longer than those who do not, tells us that we can cooperate with our body's natural healing and repair process. This will help to delay chronological aging.

If photoaging is caused by UVR, how could the sunlight be an overlooked antiaging skin care agent? The answer lies in the realization that sunlight itself is not bad for the skin, overexposure is.

In fact, much of the osteoporosis today could be helped by more sunlight exposure in some people. We need the sunlight for the synthesis of vitamin D. Of course, drug makers may prefer if we stay out of the sunlight and buy synthetic substitutes for nature's providence.

Antiaging skin care is first line of defense Care of the skin is important. Our skin is our first line of defense against invasion of germs and disease. This means that simply wearing topical add-ons is not enough. We need to maintain healthy skin.

Here are two simple suggestions for effective antiaging skin care:

    • Keep it clean - far infrared waves penetrate deep in to the skin causing vasodilation and flushing of accumulated wastes behind clogged pores. See the page on natural detoxification.
    • Feed it properly - natural antioxidants are key ingredients of some of natures finest foods - fruits and vegetables. They help undo the free radical wear and tear that constantly goes on in our bodies.
One of the best ways to keep the skin clean - really clean from the inside out - is the use of far infrared sauna therapy. And now that this kind of sauna is as common as a dinner table, everyone can get their share of antiaging skin care from the warm health giving rays in an infrared sauna at home.

15 Muscle Building Rules for Skinny Guys and Gals!

    WHY CAN'T YOU GAIN WEIGHT?

Though there may be many reasons why you may be thin, the most apparent reason is because of your genetics. If your parents are naturally thin or have a small body frame, then you will most likely have the same small body type.

To some degree, your size can also be controlled by your metabolism. If you have a difficult time gaining weight of any kind (fat or muscle) then you most likely have a fast metabolism. That simply means that your body burns calories at a faster than normal rate. You must take this into account whenever you are considering a particular diet or training program. Is it geared towards someone with your metabolism and goal?

Now as you know, there are many ways to train. Hundreds, thousands even. Some work and some do not, but for the specific goal of gaining weight, there are a few UNIVERSAL things that all skinny guys must do.

Though much of the information I cover here is not as magical as you may like, I consider these rules to be the basics with regard to weight gain. These are not all of the answers, but they are definite elements that MUST be addressed in any successful weight gain program.

You should be able to easily integrate these rules into your current program to make it more suitable for your particular body and goals.

    GENERAL RULES

1.Get the proper information that pertains to your SPECIFIC condition and goals.

The first big problem I find in most people is the lack of correct information. Yes you are motivated and doing things, but your effort is wasted on incorrect dieting and training information. Basically, skinny guys are taking advice from people who have never had a weight gain problem. Want to know how to gain weight? Then find someone who has walked your shoes. Someone who has been where you are.

2.Set a specific goal and create a plan of attack.

If you were to drive cross country to another city, would you just start driving randomly, or would you plan a route that would get you quickly and efficiently?

Think of your plan as a road map and your goal as your destination. Without a plan and a specific goal you will be without focus and can easily get lost or side tracked. This happens more often than you know. I see many people in the gym just doing whatever, or just eating whatever -- no plan or specific goal. They wonder why they don't make progress. They have no focus.

Having a specific program to follow allows you to take action each day. This action is focused on specifically getting you to your destination quickly. There is no thinking, debating or guessing. You just do it. A specific plan provides necessary daily structure that not only keeps you on the road moving forward, it also helps to develop good eating and training habits that will benefit you long after you have reached your destination.

3.Have confidence in yourself and belief in what you are doing.

Let?s face it; we live in a cruel world. Hate and jealously is everywhere. For most people who begin a fitness program to improve themselves, getting started will be half the battle. The other half will be staying motivated throughout the constant onslaught of negativity from others. A few negative words can do serious damage if you allow it.

The most insulting things you hear may be from friends, co-workers and acquaintances at the gym. People hate change. It makes them insecure, because they suddenly discover there?s more to you than they were probably willing to admit. They fear that you may actually achieve your goal. It makes them look less ?superior?.

Once you have begun your plan, you must have faith and believe in what you are doing. Stay focused and avoid overly critical or negative people. If you have to, keep your business to yourself. When I first began my program, I stopped talking about what I was doing because I got tired of hearing things like ?you can?t do that?, ?that?s impossible?, ?you?re wasting your time and money?. Funny thing is, now those people are constantly bugging me for advice.

It?s your life. It?s your body. It?s your dream. Don?t allow your success or failure to rest in the hands of others.

    WORKOUT RULES

    4. Stop listening to every ridiculous piece of advice you hear in the gym or read on a message board.

Recently a client of mine informed me that someone in the gym stated that he was training all wrong and he needed to train 5-6 days a week, and aim for more reps during his workout. Somewhere in the range of 15-20 reps per set.

The person giving the advice was quite confident about his recommendations, and he had an impressive physique that typically elevates him to the elusive listen to me if you want to look like me level in the gym. He was bigger than my client, so even though my client's intellectual mind knows that advice is absurd; his unrealistic dreamer mind took this information very seriously. So seriously that he changed his program and didn't inform me until a week or so later. This particular person had been making great progress on his current program, yet he allowed this one person?s comment to overshadow that progress and convince him that his program was inadequate. This is a mistake and it showed in his lack of further progress.

In addition, don't judge the validity of what a person says by how they look. Just because the guy is huge doesn't mean he is spewing pertinent advice for you. Many people that have big physiques are big despite of their training, not because of it. I know some huge guys that know very little about training and dieting correctly. They can do whatever and still gain muscle; unfortunately we are not that way, so we much approach things in a more intelligent way.

    5.Workout Infrequently

This is the most difficult concept for many to grasp simply because it involves less action, instead of more. When we get motivated and start a new program, it?s natural to want to do something. We want to train and train and train. Thinking all along that the more you train, the more muscle you will build. Unfortunately, this could not be farther from the truth.

More training does not equal more muscle growth. Understand that the purpose of weight training is to stimulate muscle growth. That takes very little time. Once that has been done, the muscle needs to be repaired and new muscle needs to be built. That only happens when you are resting. You do not build muscle in the gym, you build muscle when resting! If you never give your body any essential ?non active? time, when will it have a chance to build muscle? Think about that.

Now, add in the fact that you have a difficult time gaining weight and the importance of rest increases. Individuals who are naturally thin and have difficulty building muscle tend to require less training and more rest.

    6. Focus on Multi-Jointed Lifts

Multi-jointed exercises are those that stimulate the most amounts of muscle fibers. Unlike isolation exercises which only work individual muscles, multi-jointed lifts work many different muscle groups simultaneously. For those needing to gain weight, this is ideal because these lifts put your body under the most amount of stress. This is the stress that will shock your nervous system and cause the greatest release of muscle building hormones. This results in increased muscle gain all over the body.

You can still do some isolation work; however it should not be the focus of your workouts, and should only come after your multi-jointed lifting is complete.

    7. Focus on Using Free Weights

Free weights are preferred over machines for many reasons, but most importantly because they allow the stimulation of certain supporting muscle groups when training. Stimulating these stabilizer and synergistic muscles will allow you go get stronger, and ultimately build more muscle faster. Yes, some can most likely still build large amounts of muscle using machines, but why make it more difficult if you already have a difficult time gaining weight?

    8. Lift a weight that is challenging for you

Building mass involves lifting relatively heavy weight. This is necessary because the muscle fibers that cause the most amount of muscle size growth (called Type IIB) are best stimulated by the lifting of heavy weight. A heavy weight as one that only allows you to perform 4-8 reps before your muscles fail.

Using a lighter weight and doing more reps can stimulate some Type IIB fibers, but again if you have a difficult time gaining weight, why make it more difficult? You need to try and stimulate as many as you can with the use of heavy weights.

    9. Focus more on the eccentric portion of the exercise.

When you lift a weight, it can be divided into three distinct periods. The positive, the negative and midpoint. The concentric or ?positive? motion usually involves the initial push or effort when you begin the rep. The midpoint is signaled by a short pause before reversing and returning to the starting position. The eccentric, or ?negative? portion of each lift is characterized by your resistance against then natural pull of the weight.

For example, when doing push-ups, the positive motion is the actual pushing up motion. Once you have pushed all the way up, you hit the mid point. The negative motion begins when you start to lower yourself back down. Most would simply lower themselves as fast as they pushed up, but I recommend extending and slowing down this portion. Slowing down the eccentric part of the lift will help to stimulate more muscle growth. It actually activates more of the Type IIB fibers mentioned about in Rule 7.

    10. Keep your workout short but intense.

Your goal should be to get in, stimulate your muscles and then get out as quickly as possible. It is not necessary to do large amounts of exercisers per body part trying to target every muscle and hit every ?angle?. This should only be a concern of someone with an already developed, mature physique who is trying to improve weak areas.

If you have no pec, don?t concern yourself with trying to target inner, outer, upper, lower or whatever. Just work your chest. You should do no more than 2-3 exercises per body part. That?s it. Doing more than that won?t build more muscle, faster. In fact it could possibly lead to muscle loss. Long training sessions cause catabolic hormone levels to rise dramatically. Catabolic hormones are responsible for breaking down muscle tissue resulting in MUSCLE LOSS. While at the same time, long training sessions suppress the hormones that actually build muscle.

If you don?t want to lose muscle during your workouts, I suggest limiting your sessions to no more than 60-75 minutes MAXIMUM. Less if you can.

    11. Limit your aerobic activity and training

Honestly, I do not do any aerobic activity when I am trying to gain weight. This is mainly because it interferes with the important ?non-active? time my body needs for muscle building and recovery. I do understand that people have lives and other activities that they don't want to give up, so it must be kept to a minimum. It won?t hurt your progress as long as you don?t over do it. If you find that you are doing more aerobic activity weight training, that?s overdoing it.

I also don?t recommend it because people tend do it for the wrong reasons. Many start aerobic activity because they believe it will help them to lose fat. While that is true, it won?t do so on a high calorie mass diet. To lose fat, you need to be eating fewer calories.

    12. Don?t program hop

Here?s how it usually happens. You?ve just read about a new exercise or workout that is supposed to pack on the mass. Now, even though you had already started another training program a few weeks ago, you are tired of it and really want to start this routine instead because it sounds better.

I call these people, ?program hoppers?. They are very enthusiastic when starting a new program, but they never follow it long enough to actually see any results. They are easily distracted and love to drop whatever they may be doing to follow the latest hot workout or exercise.

My advice is don?t do it. This is a bad habit that never leads to a positive outcome. Understand that it takes time for any program to work. To be successful, you must follow your program consistently. Yes, there are many different training methods and interesting routines out there, but you can?t do them all at the same time and jumping around won?t allow enough time for any of them to actually be effective for you. Pick one that is focused on your current goal and stick with it. There will be plenty of time to try the others later, but NOT NOW.

    EATING RULES

    13. Eat more

This rule is pretty simple, but usually the one that is not done correctly. If weight gain is your goal, then you will need to eat more food. Period. In most cases, you will need to eat more than you are normally accustomed to.

One large problem that I had when starting out is I just had no appetite. I knew I needed to eat more, but I just did not want to. I had to force myself to eat at each meal. Thankfully, after about 2 weeks, my appetite grew. I was becoming hungry before each meal, and if I didn't eat my meal at the normal time, my body knew it.

If you have this problem, you still must eat something, no matter how much. Start off making yourself eat something small like fruit every few hours. Then, as your appetite becomes more active, gradually move into more real food.

What this will do is gradually get your body accustomed eating at regular intervals. Eventually you will be hungry before each meal time.

When eating more, you will need to make sure that you are getting plenty of good quality protein. Protein is a nutrient that is essential for building muscle. Every meal that you eat should contain some form of protein. Meal Replacement Powders like Myoplex are excellent for this purpose. They enable you to eat large amounts of good quality protein in a very convenient manner.

    14. Eat more often

In addition to eating more calories, you should also strive to eat more often throughout the day. Eating infrequently, or going long periods without eating, will cause your body to breakdown muscle tissue for the calories it needs. This is especially true for those with fast metabolisms.

Spreading your meals throughout the day will give you more manageable meal sizes, improve nutrient assimilation, and make sure that your body always has the calories it needs for muscle building and repair. I recommend eating a high protein meal every 3 hours. During normal waking hours, that usually equals about 6 meals.

Now, I know what you are saying, ?I?m too busy to do this?, or ?how can I do that with a full time job and school?? Don?t let the thought of this being too difficult keep you from doing it. It may seem very inconvenient at first, but once you get in the habit of doing it, it becomes second nature and you don?t have to give it much thought. Trust me, I?ve been doing it for years and do not feel that it?s limiting or time consuming.

    15. Use Nutritional Supplements.

Before you buy any product, remember that supplements are not magic. Too many people think that just because you buy the latest product, it guarantees that you will automatically begin to pack on the pounds. The truth is that supplements are only there to enhance an already solid diet and workout program.

They can give you the extra edge by:

    * Adding More Convenience: Using food supplements like Myoplex or Designer Protein help to eliminate the common problem of 'not enough time', by providing you with a quick, efficient way to get your required nutrients each day. They make eating large amounts of calories and protein easier for people with low appetites.

    * Increasing Strength Levels: Products that contain Creatine, like Phosphagen HP or Cell-Tech enable you to swing the odds of gaining more weight in your favor by increasing your strength output. Creatine enables you to lift heavier weights, which will stimulate more muscle fibers and cause more muscle growth.

    * Decreasing Recovery Time: Vitamin C is essential to prevent free radical damage, which is accelerated after the heavy trauma of weight training. It is also essential is helping to repair connective tissue. All of this helps decrease the amount of time you are sore.

    * Enhancing Your Immune System: Weight training increases the body's need for many minerals like magnesium and selenium. I always use a good multi-vitamin ensures that I am not deficient in any major essential vitamin or mineral. Deficiency symptoms include muscle weakness and suppression of the immune system, muscle cramping and fatigue.

I can honestly say that I could not have built the body I have today without the convenience and enhancements supplements provide. I simply don't have the time or desire to do it any other way. This is a choice that you must decide for yourself. You will be spending your money on these products, so make sure that you know their place in your program.

    IS THIS POSSIBLE?

Yes, but I have to be honest and say that from my experience, gaining weight is much more difficult than losing fat. Even if you are doing everything right, it will still be difficult because you are fighting against what your body naturally prefers. If you are naturally thin, building an impressive physique involves persistence and determination, but no matter what anyone says, it is well within your ability. Vitiligo Disorder White Patches & Theories

White patches on the skin, premature graying of the scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, and beard, and sometimes a loss of color inside the mouth?these are some of the distinct signs of vitiligo. Some people might mistake it as a disease brought about by too much sun exposure. While signs of this disease commonly appear in the sun-exposed areas of the body, the cause of vitiligo is generally unknown. Doctors and researchers have formulated several theories....

One would be that people develop antibodies (produced by the immune system, these are protective proteins which fight infectious agents including bacteria and viruses) which destroy melanocytes (special skin cells that produce melanin) in their own bodies; two, that melanocytes destroy themselves; and three, that a particular event, such as sunburn or emotional distress, triggers these distress?all of which have no scientific backing yet. Another theory says that is hereditary, making children whose parents are affected, prone to the disorder.

This disorder affects 40 to 50 million of the world?s population, excluding no race or sex type. Majority of the people affected by vitiligo usually develop it before turning 40. Given the shady causes of vitiligo, doctors make it a point to find out about important factors in an affected person?s medical history?family history, a rash or a skin trauma two to three months before depigmentation began, stress, physical illness, and / or premature graying of the scalp. While a scientific breakthrough is yet to be done determining the cause of vitiligo, several preventive measures have been developed over the years.

Aging Skin Care: Nonsurgical Treatment With Tretinoin

Topical tretinoin can be effectively used for treatment of mild sun damage and fine wrinkles and lines for skin care.Tretinoin is easy to use as a non-surgical method to get a youthful look. The skin care treatment has to be continued otherwise the benefits disappear. After some time of treatment, your doctor may reduce the dose of tretinoin to be used for giving you the young look. Tretinoin is generally used for face because face is the most exposed part of the body and acne, rashes sun damage etc. are more apparent on the face. Let us find out more about how tretinoin helps us non-surgically in skin care.

What is tretinoin- it is a form of retinoid that is derived from Vitamin A. It is also very popular in treatment of acne. Generally tretinoin is recommended for use by older patients who have fine wrinkles and sun damaged skin and spots. It is also used for younger people, who want to maintain a youthful look. Tretinoin may also be used as a preparation for further treatments such as chemical peeling. Use of tretinoin thins the skin and this prepares skin for better absorption of chemicals in peeling treatment.

For best skin care, your doctor may prescribe tretinoin for use every day at nighttime for about a year. After that this interval may be increased to once every two to three days. As tretinoin produces dryness, you may need to use a moisturizer twice a day. You may also need to adopt better protection from sun because tretinoin makes the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. If tretinoin is properly used, it can help reduce fine wrinkles, reduce age spots and also help you maintain a young look. It is a boon for those who are very careful about skin care.

Serious Skin Care Tips and Treatments

So you want to look and feel healthy but have recurring acne, eczema, pimples or perhaps dry cracking heels and elbows? Or maybe it?s those wrinkles and fine lines that have begun to appear. Now is the time for a serious skin care routine because there?s help for all.

No two people are alike so no one method of skincare is right for everyone. You have to do the research for yourself.

Some of the most common skin dilemmas come from diet, hormonal and seasonal changes; from stress, sun damage or using the wrong skin care or makeup. Getting serious about identifying the problem means knowing some things about yourself.

    Products for Anti Aging
Are you plagued by skin discoloration, dry skin, age spots or other age related problems? If so, there are many sites that offer a full line of products to counter the aging process. They may include a Cleanser, Toner, Anti-Aging Serum and Toner. Look for products that are recommended for sun damaged skin as well.

    Acne Products
The first serious step to a clear skin is a clean skin. There are rich, gentle cleansers, soap-free and packed with skin clearing ingredients. Oil and dirt are removed while penetrating the pores to kill acne causing bacteria. This is an important step in the a proactive acne treatment system.

A pore clearing tonic eliminates harmful contaminants and clears any clogged pores to return the skin to a natural healthy balance.

    Foundation Products
Good foundation products are the easiest way to get the look of an even, perfect skin. Begin around the nose and mouth to cover then blend outward. Cover any blemishes with a shade that matches, not your hair but your skin. Follow with powder to set the foundation and to get rid of shine.

    Hands and Feet
There are lotions, creams and salves that promote a natural healing for chapped rough skin and cracked heels. The product should smooth, moisturize and protect and be mild enough for man, woman and child.

Hands are used in everyday activity. They take a lot of abuse and need a lot of attention.

    Tips and Treatments

?will crack and split when not well hydrated
?clear polish will minimize chipping or cracking
?keep cuticles well lubricated with a moisturizer

    Feet
Dry skin may result in deep painful cracks in the feet. Approximately 60 percent of those with diabetes suffer from nerve damage, and may not feel the sores on the soles of their feet. If left untreated, they may become infected and create serious complications.

    Honey Foot Bath
Honey is a great anti bacterial agent that contains antioxidants and is a great moisturizer.
    Recipe
    1.1 tablespoon honey
    2.1 tablespoon liquid dish soap
    3.1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    4.2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
Mix together in a bowl that will fit the feet. Add mixture and warm water and soak 10 minutes

    Elbows, Knees and Heel Care
There are great creams available that specifically targets these often neglected areas of the body. Due to their location they are candidates for dryness, roughness and cracking.

The immediate application of the product will provide hydration, softness and increased skin tone. Use generously with a gentle massage to any rough spot - morning and evening and reapply throughout the day.

Get serious with a total skin care routine that provides for a healthy body. Cleanse properly and on a regular basis. Know your skin type and know your needs then find the skin care product to do the job.

It is a great boost to our outlook on life when we are feeling great. This is achieved by what we put 'into our skin' as well as what we put on our skin. So we need to approach good skin care in a serious manner. Rest and exercise takes care of the rest. Skin Treatment Methods To Remove Scars

Scars are a problem for all the people who wish to look young and smart. A scarred face always troubles us and affects our psychology. Talk to people affected by acne scars all over their face and you will realize the impact of scars on the self-esteem and confidence.

Skin treatment for scars may follow many procedures. That will depend on the age of the person, the location of the scar and the nature of the scar. If the scar is superficial, it can be treated with microdermabrasion or medium chemical peel, while a deeper scar will need more intensive treatments such as laser resurfacing or deep chemical peel. It is interesting to note that all of us have different scar forming tendency. Some of us form deeper scars compared to others who form mild scars for similar injury.

If the scar mixes with wrinkles it is less of a problem. But if it shows prominently on the cheek, one has to get it treated. Many methods are available for resurfacing the skin. All methods produce different results. The costs will be different and so will be the postoperative time of recovery. You have to therefore talk to your doctor about your scars and the treatment. Chemical peeling, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, surgical excision, are few of the techniques that are used to treat scars. You need not suffer scars. Consult your doctor and get treated.

    Neosporin for Clear Skin?

One of the most popular topical antibiotics on the market, Neosporin is typically applied to small wounds in order to prevent infection and speed healing. However, more recently Neosporin has also become popular as an alternative acne treatment for those who have found little luck with the typical acne products.

While Neosporin may in fact be a very effective means to clear skin for some, it is wise to remember that this is a powerful antibiotic, with some potentially serious side effects for those who rely on its long-term use to treat acne. Neosporin may be the answer if you only need a temporary spot treatment, but choosing to use a serious antibiotic as your everyday acne solution is probably not a good idea.

For acne sufferers, the benefits of Neosporin are obvious. Neosporin kills acne-forming bacteria, speeds the healing of wounds, and can minimize the appearance of scars. Neosporin combines three powerful antibiotics: Bacitracin, Neomycin, and Polymixin-B; to eliminate a broad range of bacteria beyond typical acne treatments such as those using benzoyl peroxide. Also, unlike benzoyl peroxide, Neosporin is unlikely to cause dry and irritated skin since it uses an oil base. While oil-based creams and gels are generally avoided by acne sufferers, the fact is that the oil you really have to worry about is not the oil on the surface, but the oil that is secreted by your glands under the surface. Thus, there are few negative effects resulting from this aspect of Neosporin. The fact is, many users experience faster remission of acne from Neosporin than from other top-rated typical acne products that use BP or salicylic acid. Also, the enhanced rate of wound healing and reduced inflammation makes the treatment very attractive.

While the benefits of Neosporin may sound great, potential users should also take into account the warnings that Pfizer has taken the time to print on the label. Precautions such as ?Do not use over large areas of the body? and ?Do not use longer than 1 week unless directed by a doctor? are serious warning signs for acne sufferers. Neosporin kills a lot more than just the P. Acnes bacteria that is primarily responsible for the formation of acne pustules. It also eliminates many agents that normally help your skin resist harmful bacteria. With long-term use, there is a danger that your skin may build up an antibiotic resistance which could end up making you more susceptible to serious infection down the road.

Because of these considerations, the continual use of a strong antibiotic like Neosporin is generally to be avoided. It should be noted that Pfizer is well aware that some acne sufferers turn to Neosporin as a clear skin solution, and yet they still do not market or promote this use. In fact, in response to emails on the subject, Pfizer has stated this application of Neosporin as unintended and not recommended without the consent of a medical professional.

Acne can be a stubborn problem to solve, and it?s hard to ignore any treatment that might work, but personally I would only recommend Neosporin as a temporary spot treatment for those really serious pimples. The warnings are there for a reason, and as the label says, this is not something you should be applying for longer than a week. Likewise, applying Neosporin over large areas of skin is also something to be avoided. If all you need is to take the red out of the occasional stubborn zit, Neosporin should be perfectly safe, simply avoid relying on it as an all-in-one clear skin solution.

Get Fabulous Skin How to Multiply the Effects of Your Dermalogica Product

If you try our tips below, you can?t fail to improve the texture of your skin.

Water If you?ve heard that drinking gallons of water on a daily basis will make your skin look good, you?d be wise to sit up and take notice. The water helps to purify your liver, and a purer liver will reward you directly by making your skin clearer.

You should aim to drink 2 litres a day. Not easy, but definitely worth it because if you can turn it into a habit, you?ll have skin like velvet. Try having a glass of water before every cup of coffee, or glass of wine.

In the long run, you?ll benefit from reduced calories (and maybe less wine. Sorry!). You may even find that when you?re hungry, drinking that very cold glass of water may even suppress the temptation for a chocolate fix! Ok, Maybe we?ve gone a little too far?

    Diet

    Salads, fruit, vegetables, fish.

You?ve probably read it all before, so we won?t bore you with the detail. Eat as little and as often as you can, and keep stodgy stuff to a minimum. Omega 3 supplements can help and they are widely available from chemists and all good health food shops.

Keep it simple, it?s essential to know how to read your skin, and everyone?s is different. If your daily grooming regime isn?t working, mix it up. Don?t just use a scattergun approach by trying more products. Get back to basics and give the following suggestions a try:

    Cleanse

Dry, combination, oily skin? Use a wipe off cleanser. Why? Because too much washing and scrubbing actually dries out the skin.

    Exfoliate

Yes, of course. But you only really need to do it once a week. Again, read your skin. If it reacts or gets red and sore, something?s wrong. Break your habit and try once a week.

    Moisturize

Want your skin to age faster? Then forget to moisturize. And just to accelerate the aging process a little more, use a sunbed, or go out in the sun without any SPF protection. As moisturisers are the first line of defence in any regime, it?s essential to choose a good quality product and use it every day.

    Apply

If you?ve ever been to a good skincare therapist you?ll probably notice how they apply the treatments to your face. Gentle pressure point massaging helps by sending freshly oxygenated blood to the skins cells. It also helps to reduce puffiness, by releasing fluid. Using a good quality cream, gently massage and stretch the skin from the centre of your brow.

Moving down your face, repeat this movement in sections. Repeat a couple of times moving outward and upward on each section. When complete, gently drum your fingertips along your face. Feels relaxing huh?

If all of this sounds easy, that?s because it is. Treat your body well by giving it the right fuel and protection, then sit back and reap the rewards.

Now go and have a glass or two of water!

Natural Ways to Treat Stretch Marks

Pregnancy is a wonderful time in a woman?s life. One aspect of child-bearing, however, may not be so welcomed. For 75-90% of pregnant women, stretch marks, or striae gravidum, can appear in the later half of pregnancy. Stretch marks do not pose any health risk to either the mother or child, but can cause anxiety over their appearance for those who develop them. Stretch marks first appear as raised striations which vary in colour from pink, purple or brown, depending on the mother?s normal skin colour. Striations develop where fat is stored in the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, breasts and arms.

Stretch marks develop during pregnancy because of rapid and excessive weight gain in areas such as the lower abdomen or thighs. As weight increases, the collagen and elastin in the dermal layer of the skin, responsible for retaining shape and firmness, is stretched to the point of breaking. The dermis is the layer beneath the epidermis, or visible layer of the skin. The elastic fibres in the dermis weaken with stretching and increased cortisone levels normally produced in the last trimester. As these fibres separate and the skin stretches, collagen is overproduced to form scar tissue which result in striations.

There is no cure for stretch marks. The scarring process that has occurred in the dermis cannot be reversed, but stretch marks will flatten, fade and lighten over time. Creams which contain steroids such as hydrocortisone, or active agents like tretinoin (retin-A) should not be used during pregnancy, and especially not during the first trimester when the fetus is highly vulnerable. Plastic surgery methods are available to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, such as dermabrasion or laser, but treatments are expensive and results vary.

Genetics play a role in whether a pregnant woman will develop stretch marks, but equally influential factors are the condition of the skin and nutrition in determining the onset and severity of stretch mark development. Well-hydrated and healthy skin stretches more easily, so drinking plenty of fluids and eating foods rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc and silica, a component in collagen formation, are beneficial.

Lotions, creams and other topical treatments will not reach the dermis, but they can help relieve the itchiness or dryness associated with stretch marks. Keeping the skin moisturized decreases any discomfort that may be felt and if stretch marks are treated when they first appear, their appearance may be reduced significantly. Massaging nutrient-rich natural oils such as wheatgerm, jojoba or vitamin E can help heal the epidermis and also increase blood circulation to the affected area, assisting the healing process. Pregnant women should avoid products containing clary sage, basil, cinnamon or thyme, as these might adversely affect the fetus.

Stretch marks eventually fade and become less obvious over time. Maintaining a balanced perspective about stretch marks can keep pregnancy a most precious time for mother and baby.

Tips for Transitioning Your Skin Care and Looks from Summer to Fall

Fall's the time to repair the price paid for ?fun in the sun? and prepare for cooler, dryer air. Then experiment with the season's new looks!

As healthy as being outdoors can feel, the ultraviolet rays of the sun can damage skin cells through sunscreens and sun blocks.** Chlorine and other chemicals in hot tubs and pools, salt water at the beach, and super-conditioned air can leach away nutrients and cause dryness. What to do? Have some fun ... create a ?spa? environment in your bath area and follow these simple steps.

Step one in reversing the effects of summer is to remove the dead surface skin cells that have built up. For your face, select a mask or microdermabrasion product that?s appropriate for your skin type (dry, normal, combination, oily, blemish-prone). Also pick an exfoliator made specifically for the lips. For your body, choose a scrub or buffing cream. If you have sensitive skin, avoid scents and perfumes since they can be irritants. Then follow the product directions for application and use, massaging gently.

Step two is to moisturize the newer, younger skin you've revealed. Liberally apply a facial moisturizer (paying special attention to the neck and d?collet?), eye cream, lip balm, and body lotion (or cream), allowing time for the products to be absorbed into your skin. You want to replace the moisture that?s been stripped away during cleansing, restore what?s been lost during the summer and start to protect against cold weather and dry indoor heat.

Now, after each cleansing, apply moisturizers and, if necessary, increase the intensity of the products. At night, use a specially formulated product for your face that works while you sleep. For problem areas such as elbows, knees, hands and feet, put on extra lotion or cream (wear mitts and footies to bed, as needed). During the day, continue to wear sunscreen or sun block to protect your skin from ultraviolet rays.

As sun exposure or a tan fades, adjust your foundation and/or powder to a lighter shade. Test the shade along your jaw line to blend with both your face and neck; watch to see if it ?disappears? into your skin.

The lighter, sun-kissed colors of summer typically transition to darker, earthier colors in fall. If you?re trying to adapt the season's shades or find the hues that work best for you, try these tricks.

For eyes, eye shadows with a base or elements of color opposite that of your eyes (on the color wheel) will make your eyes stand out the most. Consider a wide spectrum of the colors that are in style. If teal?s fashionable, experiment with different tints of blues and greens and blue-greens. Mix colors or tone them down with neutrals until you find the ones that complement your face and wardrobe.

For cheeks and lips, the most flattering colors are usually the ones that pick up the natural warm tones in your face.

Once you're ready, enjoy the season!

    Reducing the Appearance of Wrinkles

Wrinkles. One of the most dreaded words in the dictionary. At the first sign of a wrinkle, our reaction is pretty much universal. Horror! After we calm down, we begin to wonder just what we can do to eliminate this much dreaded effect of aging and how do we keep other newer and deeper wrinkles from following. If we already find ourselves with wrinkle mania in full bloom, we look for solutions to turn back the hands of time and restore our skin to its once youthful state. Fortunately, there are options available to us to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Let's take a moment to discover what causes these wrinkles. First and foremost, aging. As we grow older our skin naturally looses collagen and eslastin that help to keep our skin firm and taunt. Also, our skin cell reproduction slows down and the rejuvenating effect that new skin cells have on our skin?s appearance diminishes. These types of wrinkles are known as intrinsic, they cannot be avoided. It is Mother Nature at her best (or worst!). Other factors, like the environment and sun damage, can also cause skin to wrinkle. Smoking also causes the skin to produce less collagen, inevitably leading to an increase in wrinkles. These types of wrinkles are called extrinsic. They are life style choices that are, for the most part, under our control. These extrinsic influences are the leading cause of pre-mature aging patterns in our skin. Now that we know why we have wrinkles let?s talk about how to reduce them.

One of the more popular ways to reduce the appearance of wrinkles is plastic surgery. Not only are face-lifts an option but also there are now less invasive procedures, like chemical peels, laser treatments, and collagen injections. The number one procedure for reducing wrinkles used today by women of every walk of life is Botox? injections. Botox? works by relaxing the injected muscle and allowing those awful furrow lines and other deep wrinkles to all but disappear. This is temporary, though, and has to be repeated every few months.

Coblation is also an option for reducing wrinkles. Less invasive than surgery, radio waves are used to remove the top layer of the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage. Although this procedure does leave you with newer, younger looking skin, it is not as effective as laser treatments. It is safer, though, and the healing process is considerably shorter since the radio waves do not go as deeply into the lower layers of skin.

Although all of the above mentioned remedies are good options, they are also expensive. There are a large variety of wrinkle reducing creams on the market today that contain ingredients like Retinal. These will help to firm your skin and lessen the look of fine lines, but not necessarily the deeper set wrinkles.

Organic Skin Care Do Organic Skin Care Products Really Work?

You must have noticed how popular organic products have become these days. When anything is labeled as organic it simply means that no chemicals were used during the growth/cultivation of this product. The belief here is that organic products are more healthy and less harmful to our bodies. Hmmm .. if this is the case then why don't we grow only organic products? The simplest reason is that the use of chemicals helps to manage large-scale cultivation. Whereas in the case of organic production, this is mostly manageable only on a much smaller scale. In a nutshell organic products are made from organic ingredients - fruits, vegetables etc. Lets move on to see how this affects you.

Now, how is all this relevant to your skin care? The question you should be asking and you probably have been is - how do I differentiate between all these various organic skin care products in the cosmetics aisle? If you have ever looked at the labels of these products, you will notice that a lot of names on the back are unpronouceable. This is because some products use organic ingredients in addition to some chemical ingredients. That is the caveat - 'in addition to'. You have already seen this situation if you have ever shopped for juice before. It's the same as those bottles of juice which do not indicate that they are 100% fruit juice.

So, how do you read these labels? If you are going from top to bottom, then you will notice a decrease in the concentrations. Make sure that the ingredients all the way from the top to the bottom make sense to you. If they don't quickly note them down and do some basic research on the web.

Now, this begs the question - should you buy these?

These skin care products are definitely beneficial for your skin. More than likely the side effects from these will be minimal. There are a variety of products, each with a totally different purpose - some exfoliate, others cleanse, condition, nourish, hydrate and moisturize the skin.

Most people who use these products say that their skin feels fresh and relaxed immediately after use. The added benefits is that these organic products have a nice smell. So, not only are you rejuvenating the skin, but you are also uplifting your spirit and of others around you. It doesn't get better than this!

    Deception Wrinkle Cream

Watch this recent ABC News clip and see the results for yourself! An ndependent news organization persuaded two volunteers to try the product and tell them what they thought about it!

    What's going on here?

Is this some kind of magic? No, -it's not magic. It's science which seems like magic.

The main ingredient in Deception is made from something called emu oil. I'll tell you about emu oil in a moment... but first... let me tell you what creates the magic effect.

This is the best triple-refined emu oil in the world. And, an extra ingredient is added to it while it is being made into a cream. This extra ingredient is a suspension of superfine silicon dioxide nanoprisms which has been fractionated instead of powderized. That means instead of turning into flakes when it is processed... it turns into...

    Billions of Microscopic Three-Dimensional Nanoprisms!

    So what?

Here's so what. Almost nobody knows this... but... the human eye cannot see a wrinkle. What the eye sees is actually the shadow made by the wrinkle. And, since all those billions of microscopic nanoprisms refract light, when you use Deception...

There are No Shadows to See!

This effect will last until you wash your face and the invisible silicon dioxide is removed. And get this: Remember how I told you the main ingredient in this cosmetic cream is made from emu oil? Well, it turns out emu oil is probably the best cosmetic ingredient in the world. That's because its molecules are much smaller than the molecules in human skin. Because of this, emu oil can...

Penetrate Down Through Seven Layers of Human Skin!

This makes it the best moisturizer in the world.

And here's more good news! The reason you get wrinkles in the first place is, as you get older, you start losing the collagen in your skin. Can you guess what emu oil does?

    Tired of Weight Loss Scams?

Every day we are bomabarded by images of beautiful celebrities who seem to achieved impossibly perfect figures. How do they do it? With expensive personal trainers, gormet food home delivery and deluxe spa treatments. Well what about those of us who don't have the time and money to spend on indulging in the lastest $1000 per month spa foods delivery or spend two hours a day at budokon class? In other words, wouldn't it be nice to lose a ton of weight with minimal effort? No tough exercise program, just you relaxing at home watching the pounds fall off. I, for one, have been searching for a program like that FOREVER! I've spent hundreds, (at this point probably thousands of dollars), testing out all those new fad diets and weight loss pills only to be disapointed again and again.

Whether its the South Beath, Atkins, Zone, Hoodia suppliments, cortisol, green tea supplements, grapefruit supplements, we've seen all the fantastic claims that people have made about losing tons of weight, and they show you how you can do the same thing. I can tell you right now that 99% of these people are total frauds. You may have even fallen prey to one of these scam artists, selling you their lastest lose weight fast programs. Me too. I've bought so many of these programs that I can't even recall how many. I don't know why, but I tend to find the good in people, and I was sold by these marketing schemes time and time again, even after being scammed by another. Finally, after so many disappointments, I got FED UP! I was tired of yo yo dieting. I wanted to lose weight and keep it off.

So I did some serious investigation as to what programs were frauds and which ones weren't. Essentially, we all know that in order to lose weight you need to expend more calories than you intake. Well, sounds easy enough, but whether its becuase of emotional overeating or lack of physical activity, most of us can't manage. So then I started looking into a couple of programs that made sense biologically. I looked for programs that had a staff on hand to answer any questions that I had and to support me in my weight loss goals. After much trial and error, I finally found a few programs that I now believe in. If you're tired of supplements and drugs and you don't want to screw up your metabolism then I suggest you give these programs a try.

I've now lost a little over ten pounds in the last month and pretty much reached my weight loss goal. I finally now feel celebrity skinny and I guess I just wanted to let people know that there are programs out there that work and not to give up trying to reach your weight loss goals. You can look as good as you want to. Below are the three that I recommend. I know that they were both having a Valentine's Day special the last time I looked, so check them out today!

    Good Luck!

Here are 3 programs I recommend:

Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle

    Fat Loss '4' Idiots

    The Negative Calorie Diet

    A Rude Awakening

When sometime mentions comatose, what comes to mind? Perhaps you think of a serene deep sleep, like the ones experienced by the two female characters in the artsy movie Talk to Her. Or maybe you think of it as a retreat from the world from which one could wake from at any time and immediately continue on with life, similar to what Uma Thurman's character does in Kill Bill. As you might have guessed by now, these portrayals of comas are entirely inaccurate and may actually be harmful to viewers who cannot see their faults.

A recent study published in medical journal Neurology suggests that misleading depictions of comatose in films can drastically effect real-life decisions and reactions to the tragedy (Edmonton Journal). For the study, thirty movies that include incidents of comatose were reviewed for their medical accuracy and for the audience reception they created. While twenty-eight of those scenes were deemed misrepresentative and inaccurate, almost 40% of the educated, mature audience admitted they had allowed the scenes to influence their perceptions of comas (Edmonton Journal). Certain misconceptions in movies may not necessarily need to be clarified, but when false representations form one's knowledge and understanding of a serious medical condition, real-life decisions could be influenced.

Family members and friends of comatose patients are fully aware of the harsh reality of the situation and how films gloss over the ugly truths of the condition. With not a lot of information circulating amongst the general public, ideas about comas are primarily based on movie portrayals. Unfortunately, this leads to incredible disappointment when medical doctors describe the rare and uncertain possibility of recovery. In reality, films do not prepare us for the ventilators, intravenous hookups, and tracheotomy and catheter tubes (Stephanie Watson). The public is not aware of the disturbing effects that long-term comas cause, such as deteriorated muscle, sallow and transparent skin, contracture of the feet and wrists, and weight loss (Canadian Press). After being exposed to the pristine, peaceful sleep of coma victims in films, seeing their loved one as a shell of their old self can be irreconcilable.

In most cases, the occurrence of a coma also involves severe brain damage (Edmonton Journal). Therefore, despite what films may imply, the patient is not going to suddenly wake up, stand, and proceed with life as normal. The bleak reality is if a comatose patient remains in a vegetative state for a month or longer, 90% will not improve and will likely remain in a state of severe disability (braininjury.com).

Movies have the right to be creative. No one is denying them that freedom. However, it seems their persuasive powers are much more powerful than we ever thought. In fact, this study shows how film depictions can actually influence our grasp of reality, effect real-life decisions and form our expectations. It seems as if the medical community is drawing a line between acceptable entertainment and tragic misinformation.

When it comes to real-life, do you put your faith in tried and tested Truth or flashy Hollywood hype? Sure, it's enjoyable to escape reality for a while and delve into the fantastical world of magic, glamour and impossibility, but sometimes it may cause more harm than good. Perhaps it's time we get a stronger grasp on reality before the bliss of ignorance eludes us entirely.

    Dealing with Skin Dryness

Dry skin has a parched look caused by its lack of ability to retain moisture. Characteristics of dry skin are fine pores, dryness, fine lines, roughness, tight, uncomfortable feeling, and dull appearance. If your skin feels the same, it?s a fair bet you?ve got a dry complexion.

Dry skin is caused by too little sebum in the lower levels of skin and too little moisture in the upper levels. It feels tight and itchy after washing. It requires soothing care to look its best. It is essential to take proper care to hydrate it. Only then you can begin to enjoy a new, softer skin.

Dry skin is very reactive to the environment and hates extremes of cold, heat and wind. It tends to peel and has a tendency to premature ageing with the emergence of fine lines and wrinkles. There is a difference between a dehydrated skin and a dry skin. While the dehydrated skin is simply thirsty, dry skin needs extra care in adapting a beauty regime to nourish the weakened corneal layer. While dealing with dry skin, your objective should always be to restore tone to the lipids in the corneal layer.

Every dermatologist?s advice: you must cleanse according to your skin type. Dry skin must be cleansed without removing the skin?s protective film. So you should opt for a thick milk cleanser and rinse with flower water. Your moisturizing cream should be rich in repairing agents containing ceramides, which reduce the salt content and slow down the evaporation of water in the skin.

    Face Masks for dry skin:

    1. Mix 2 tablespoons honey with 2 teaspoons milk. Smooth over face and throat. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

    2. Mash apricots mix it with warm olive oil to form a paste. Apply it on your face and leave it for 10 minutes, then wash off.

Some helpful tips for dealing with dry skin:

    1. Drink one and half litre of water every day to retain the hydration rate of your skin cells. Also, it benefits your overall health.

    2. Maximize the effects of hydration by adding the essential oil, angelica, to your day and night creams.

    3. Make sure to abandon water based cleansers.

    4. Try iris flower, as it is excellent for retaining moisture in the skin.

    5. Always opt for creams with ceramides.

    6. Eat a balanced diet including fresh fruits and vegetables.

    7. Stay away from soft drinks, sugar and other junk foods.

Homemade solutions for dry, flaky skin: 1. Place a sprinkling of sugar in your palm and dampen with water. Gently massage on the flaky areas. Rinse. 2. Rub half of an apple on skin to help even out the texture.

Skin Care: Organic Natural or Scientifically Advanced Which is Best?

In an age where fear of water impurities has millions drinking bottled water, and concerns about genetically engineered corn has others searching for ?natural food sources?, many people are also wondering what type of products to use for healthy skincare.

We are frightened by the new world we seemingly live in, and at first blush may think that organic or natural is the way to go - as the words organic and natural in and of themselves engender visions of a time when life was simpler, purer and more wholesome.

This fear often drives us to the multitude of publications promoting organic or natural lifestyles; however once we delve into their pages the information barrage may be overwhelming.

Are soy beans really good for us, and if so do we have to eat five pounds a day to see any benefit? Lemon juice may help bleach out age spots, but is all that acid really healthy for our skin? Can ginseng actually alleviate wrinkles, and if so, why doesn?t every skincare company in the world use it as an ingredient?

The truth of the matter is: organic and natural skincare promotions cannot be trusted in a vacuum no more than any other information concerning our health. It is logical to believe that many substances which are an indigenous part of the natural world around us are extremely beneficial to our health, but let?s use some common sense. We were given brains to scrutinize, analyze and research for good reason.

This is where scientific research comes into play. Unfortunately, high profile abuses by pharmaceutical companies and others have somewhat tainted the word ?science? in our society, but we must admit that scientific research has more successes than failures to its credit.

The skincare industry, in particular, has been able to rely upon scientific research with great success, in part, because ingredients considered for skincare products can be researched without the high risks associated with products that are internally ingested.

Skincare research that not only investigates the benefits, safety and effectiveness of natural ingredients, but also explores how these ingredients can be enhanced to give us the healthiest skincare product possible, gives us the best of both worlds ? a wholesome natural approach that results in the most advanced skincare possible.

The answer to the question posed in the title of this article comes down to how we feel about the following: Would we eat mold to cure an infection? Absolutely not, but availing ourselves of the benefits of penicillin is an entirely different story.

    The Best Prescription Acne Medication

There are many different varieties of medications that are specifically designed for the successful treatment of acne, but since every person has a different skin composition and conditions can vary it is difficult to say which is the best overall prescription acne medication. Many of the popular medications contain peroxide as a means of treating acne, zits, pimples, blackheads and any other skin blemish that comes to mind and those medications are very successful for a lot of people in treating their acne. However, for some consumers those products and acne solutions just don't work or if their acne is too severe it may require a more drastic solution. It is usually best to see a dermatologist if your medication is not working, as they will have more experience than your family doctor and are more likely to have a wider knowledge of the treatments available for your particular acne strain or skin blemish.

One of the more popular prescription treatments is for a topical medication that contains retinoids. These acne medications can help to alleviate some of the problems of acne by keeping your pores clear and helping to prevent blackheads. Unfortunately, there is also a downside to topical medications as the skin may be more sensitive to the sun. This can be disadvantage if you live somewhere where the sun is out a lot or if you are going on holiday in a sunny area. Of course, it may well be worth putting up with these minor side effects if the treatment is proving to be effective at reducing or completely eliminating your acne. Whether or not this is the best prescription acne medication for you is something that you could ask the dermatologist. If your condition is particularly bad they might prescribe oral retinoids although they are not usually prescribed in mild cases of acne.

Antibiotics are thought by some people to be the best prescription medication for acne but again, this depends upon your condition and how effective your doctor thinks that they might be for you. It is not something that you should try without first consulting your doctor and getting an appropriate prescribed treatment.

It is very difficult to tell which is the best prescription medication for acne as the condition and the best way to treat it can vary widely from person-to-person. It is not a good idea to try prescription medications without the full consultation of your doctor or dermatologist. If you want to try over-the-counter treatments then it is a good idea to ask the pharmacist what treatments they would recommend and what they think may be best for your skin condition. This way you'll know that you're getting the best treatment and the right one for you.

    Skin Care Home Remedies

Natural homemade recipes for your skin are simple to make and cost-effective. What you put on your skin is just as important as what you eat. Commercial products often contain chemicals that are absorbed by your skin finding their way into the bloodstream which can be harmful to your overall health.

Virgin coconut oil/butter makes for a good moisturizer by providing a protective layer that locks in natural moisture. Coconut oil solidifies at temperatures below 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the coconut butter in small lip balm or eye cream jars or any small sterilized jar. For a lip balm, use coconut butter on its own or add peppermint or spearmint oil. As an acne treatment, add a couple of drops of tea tree, lavender, or patchouli oil. For wrinkles, add rose, orange or patchouli oil. To treat eczema, add chamomile, geranium, or orange oil. To treat broken capillaries, add rose, palmarosa, or parsley oil. To treat cellulite, add grapefruit, tangerine, or orange oil. For stretch marks, add palmarosa or neroli oil. To treat burns, add geranium, patchouli or lavender oil.

For sunburned skin, break open a leaf of an Aloe Vera plant and smooth onto the skin. The gel is also good for other types of burns and has soothing, cooling, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Strawberry juice, cucumbers and avocados are also soothing to sunburned skin.

For tired eyes, place cucumber slices over your eyes. For dark circles around your eyes, place cooled tea bags over your eyes.

For a homemade facial toner, mix green tea, chamomile or ginseng tea (made with mineral water or distilled water) with lavender or lemon oil. Green tea is rich in antioxidants which fight free radicals that damage and age the skin. Green tea is said to diminish fine lines. Lavender oil is a good toner and lemon oil is a good rejuvenator and toner. Add Vitamin C crystals as a preservative and antioxidant. MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane) is a natural source of organic sulfur good for the skin. Add MSM crystals to your toner or eat high sulfur foods such as kale or watercress.

Prick a capsule of Vitamin A, E, or wheat germ oil and smooth directly onto your skin, add to coconut, almond or apricot oil, or to your toner. Vitamin A is a potent antioxidant and Vitamin E is said to slow down the aging process. Almond oil soothes and lubricates the skin. Apricot oil protects and softens the skin. Wheat germ oil promotes skin elasticity.

For a moisturizing and refreshing mask, mix avocado with shredded cucumber. Avocados are rich in protein and Vitamin A. Cucumbers are cooling and cleansing. Use a mashed banana for a skin firming mask.

To lighten age spots, rub lemon directly onto your skin.

For a body powder, mix cornstarch and baking soda with your favorite essential oil. For a foot powder, mix cornstarch, baking soda and tea tree or peppermint oil. Baking soda acts as a deodorizer and soothes the skin. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic, germicide, antibacterial, and fungicide. Peppermint oil is soothing to the feet and swollen ankles.

Drinking plenty of water, eating raw fruits and vegetables, and getting plenty of rest are one of the best ways to achieving healthy and radiant skin. What goes into your body is reflective on your skin.

How Birth Control Pills Can End Your Acne

It would almost be shorter to list the things that birth control pills DON'T effect, then to mention all the things they DO effect. They don't, for instance, effect vegetables, they don't effect rocks, and they don't effect outer space, however they may, on occasion, effect machinery and small animals.

Weather you're taking them to even out your menstrual cycle or to keep yourself from getting pregnant, now you have yet another reason to try out birth control pills,... clear skin. Birth Control Pills have proven that they help reduce acne. So much so in fact that the FDA has approved Ortho Tri-Cyclen and generic norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol (the stuff in Birth Control Pills) for use in the treatment of acne.

How Does this work? Androgen is a male hormone that increases oil production. Androgen is always working away, but it increases it's production of oil just before menstruation begins, which could result in your skin breaking out around you period. Where does the pill fit in? Low-doses of birth control pills have shown that they decrease these excess androgens. That means less oil and less breakouts, and they can even be used with other acne therapy (details can be found in the February 2001 Skin Therapy Letter)

Does this mean you should go out and pick up some birth control pills to kill that acne? Probly not, remember these studies were done with low doses of birth control pills. You might wanna think of it more as one of the things to add to the benefits of birth control pills. Maybe it'll help offset the nausea and headaches over on the drawbacks side.

Protect the Barrier Function of Your Skin!

The selectively permeable skin barrier is the top most layer of the skin (so called ?dead skin layer?), which has a tremendous role in protection against dehydration and variable environmental changes. This layer contains cells without nuclei comprised of keratin filaments sank in a lipid milieu of free cholesterol, cholesterol ionic (sulfate cholesterol), ceramide, and other free fatty acids. The role of each of the constituents of this layer is still an open question.

One thing is certain! Any modification in the skin barrier?s equilibrium may trigger different skin conditions such a dryness, itchiness or dermatitis.

Preservation of the qualities of the skin barrier became a necessity these days when we encounter so many pollution sources around us.In order to maintain a healthy and active skin barrier you should moisturize your skin on a daily basis. There are many important qualities that a moisturizer has to achieve in order to protect the skin barrier.

One of the important qualities of a moisturizer is to bring moisture and keep it there. For this purpose every moisturizer has to contain humectants, preferable natural, such as vegetable glycerin. The glycerin can attract water and trigger the elasticity of the skin.

Fatty acids on the other hand, have a major role in retaining the moisture in. However, a high concentration of fatty acids without any humectant in a skin care formulation increases the sensitivity of the skin barrier to different chemicals. For example sodium lauryl sulfate, one of the major ingredient in synthetic cleansers can easily penetrate the skin barrier in the above conditions, leading to cell damage. To strengthen the barrier function some fatty acids are more important than other. For example linoleic and gamma linoleic acids, induce the biosynthesis of ceramide , a skin barrier constituent , which improves radically the barrier function.

Another quality for a well formulated moisturizer is sunscreen protection. Antioxidants such as vitamin C, Vitamin E or Coenzyme Q have an important role in UV protection. However for a photoaging damaged skin these only ingredients are not sufficient to stop or reverse the aging process. Vitamin A is also required to enhance the biosynthesis of the new skin cells. On the other hand too high concentration of vitamin A can induce wrinkles.

To activate the skin barrier process of regeneration the most upper layer of the cells has to be removed periodically. The removal of the cells can be rapidly obtained by peeling procedure. The stronger the peeling procedure you choose the longer time is needed for the skin barrier to regenerate. By using mild peeling procedure the removal of the cells is limited to some extent to those cells ready to be shed. In this case, the regeneration is naturally occurred, is not induced or forced, this keeping the upper skin layer protected.

In conclusion: Don?t rush for a moisturizer, which claims to contain one extraordinary active ingredient!

One or even two active ingredients are not enough to provide a healthy skin and protective skin barrier. The active ingredients have to be as many as they can maintain all the skin needs for hydration, regeneration, rejuvenation and protection. The potential active ingredients have to interact with each other in a complete synergy to provide the maximum strengths and a high quality skin care product.

Don?t rush for an extreme peeling alternative. Look for a less aggressive, more natural way of improving your skin and strengthening your skin?s barrier function.

After all, your skin has to be prepared not for a moment of nice pretence, it has to remain healthy for your entire life.

Acne Program Step 8 Vegetables to Eat and Drink

Eating and drinking vegetables is necessary for good health and for keeping your skin free from acne. Most people don?t eat enough vegetables and seldom drink their juices. Here is a list of vegetables and their juices that you need to eat and drink daily to help eliminate your acne.

    Vegetable juices

Vegetable juices are absorbed quickly into your bloodstream. As a result, your cells are quickly provided with nutrients that feed them and that wash away waste. Vegetable juices give you the opportunity to get quick relief from various body conditions such as acne, skin disorders, and constipation.

Eating and drinking vegetables provide you with minerals and nutrients that build your blood, tissue, bones, and cells. It is minerals that build every part of your body. It is minerals that keep your body?s pH at the required level. It is minerals that keep your body alkaline by neutralizing body acids. Concentrate on putting minerals into your body by eating and drinking plenty of fruits and vegetables.

    Carrot apple juice

Drink carrot juice every day. I like drinking carrot juice mixed with apple juice. My stomach can handle this combination better.

Carrot juice contains many vitamins and minerals. It is high in beta-carotene. Carrot juice will enhance your skins health and help you eliminate acne.

    Carrot, spinach, and apple juice

A combination of carrot, spinach and apple juice is a powerful drink for cleaning the colon, relieving constipation and improving your skin conditions.

To make this drink, juice 3-4 carrots and a bunch of spinach. Then add juiced apples to make this drink more drinkable.

    Vegetables

The word phytochemicals is used frequent here. Phytochemicals are all of the chemicals that exist in vegetables and fruits. There are so many phytochemicals that scientists have yet to investigate and learn about all of them.

Here are the vegetables that you should be eating the most of, so you can support the cleansing of your face and eliminating acne.

    * Carrots ? contain a rich source of vitamin A-like carotenoids. These phytochemicals have been shown to enhance the health of skin and repair it when it is damaged.

    * Cabbage ? helps to detoxify the body of harmful chemicals from the air and food additives.

    * Celery ? helps to reduce nervous tension. It contains many minerals that help to neutralize body acid waste and is high in fiber

    * Cucumber ? helps to reduce acne problems because it is high in silicon and sulfur. It is also a diuretic which helps flow more water through the kidney to clean out your blood

    * Broccoli ? is rich in beta carotene, a precursor to vitamin A, which is good for the skin

    * Garlic ? is a natural antibiotic and will help relieve skin bacterial infections

    * Green pepper ? The nutrients in green peppers are good for liver health and constipation. Its minerals are good for neutralizing acid waste.

    * Radishes ? help to digest your food. Good digestion is necessary to avoid constipation and to keep the liver and pancreas strong

    * Sprouts ? provide plenty of vitamins and minerals, which help to reduce body acids

    * Watercress ? helps to prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies at the skin surface. It provides Vitamin A, B1, B2, C, iron, manganese, copper, and calcium.

Skin Care Tips To Avoid A Level 5 Acne Emergency

Having healthy looking skin is extremely important when it comes to avoiding a level 5 acne emergency. That's the time when you can least afford to have a zit or pimple breakout. Think in terms of your prom night, family photos or heaven forbid, your wedding day. This article focuses on the most popular skin care tips in an effort to keep you from having the dreaded level 5 acne emergency.

There are many types of skin care products for one simple reason. There are just as many different types of skin. As a result it's extremely important that you're aware of your particular skin type in order to purchase and use the correct skin care products in an effort to prevent an outbreak of acne.

Did you know that the body is composed of 75% water. With this in mind its no wonder many experts glorify the helpful effects water has on the human body. True drinking lots of water throughout the day will help eliminate headaches, surpress your appetite and keep you in shape. However, it also has a helpful effect on your skin keeping it moist and in healthy shape at the cellular level. Don't underestimate the importance of water in your fight to avoid a level 5 zit emergency.

Although it should go without saying cleaner skin is undeniably healthier and better suited to fight off any developing skin blemishes. So with that said, make sure to regularly clean your skin with semi-warm water. It has been proven that hot water and cold water can actually damage your skin at the molecular level so avoid using them while cleaning your skin to get rid of excess oils and dirt. Also be wary of how hard you scrub your skin. Instead of a hard rubbing action, focus on a gentle cleaning which will actually exfoliate your skin with a much better success rate. Additionally make sure to avoid using soap on your face. Soap is actually quite abrasive to your skin and does more harm then good. Instead focus on using a quality skin car product to keep your skin clean and moist throughout the day.

Although this article doesn't focus on your overall health the truth is a healthy dose of regular exercise followed by a good night's sleep will alleviate your stress levels and keep your skin taut and help to eliminate wrinkles. Eliminating or lowering your stress levels has been proven to reduce acne outbreaks so exercise and sleep are key to your skin's beauty and health. This is especially important if you spend alot of time in the sun and are prone to forget about putting on skin moisturisers.

Finally don't be scared to visit the local dermatologist, especially if you see or notice any skin blemish or pimple outbreak. After all nobody really wants to suffer from a level 5 acne emergency. Follow the skin care tips outlined in this article and you'll be on your way to cleaner and healthier looking skin in no time flat.

Acne Prevent Acne In A Sure And Simple Way

Preventing acne in sure and simple way sounds little far fetched, isn't it? We have started believing that acne cannot be prevented. But let me tell you something by which you can be pretty sure that you will prevent it. This is how...

Acne - what are the main reasons of formation?

The main reasons of acne formation are- blocked pore, excess production of sebum, infection in the sebum and the gland. Suppose we don't care about controlling sebum production. After all there is not much that we can do about that because it is hormonal. We focus our attention on the blocked glands. Let us remove the blocks daily. If we can do that, the excess sebum will always go out on the skin and never get infected. Our target should be- keep the pores open. What blocks the pores? The pores are blocked by the dead skin cells, that should normally get shed naturally but accumulate on the mouth of the gland and block it.

Acne - How to remove dead cells daily?

How do we remove the dead cells daily? Use of a substance that peels the skin layers from the top is best suited for this. Use of materials that dissolve the binding cement of dead cells is also needed. Peel off the top layer of dead cells. Dissolve the bond between dead cells and make them lose so that they can be easily washed away. Use of retinoids such as tretinoin and use of AHA such as glycolic acid regularly will do this easily. Please consult your doctor about this and ask for the right product. Once you keep the pores open, you will be effectively stooping acne production.

    Skin and Bare It!

Not too long ago, if a man spent time in a chemist looking at skin care products, it was probably because they were a little embarrassed, and plucking up courage to ask for a pack of condoms. All that is in the past though, as now the 21st century man has suddenly realised that he needs to take care of his skin, not only for appearance reasons, though women do seem to approve, but equally so for health purposes. With the improved advertising of skin cancer, there is no longer the desire to ignore advise and with proper skin care by means of appropriate cleaning and moisturising, it can have a terrific effect on the self-confidence of the individual.

More men tend to oily skin than women and looking after oily skin can be a full time job. It is often heredity, but can be caused by diet. So eating food sorts rich in proteins but restricted in sugar, fluids and salt are beneficial in oily skin care, along with plenty of leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits. A slight deficiency in vitamin B2 can cause oily skin. Nutritional yeast, wheat germ and organ meats provide both vitamin B5 and vitamin B2. The skin can be kept hydrated by drinking plenty of water, which will flush out toxins. With this type of skin, the oil producing sebaceous glands are overactive and produce more oil than is needed, consequently the oil oozes and gives the skin a greasy shine. The one advantage that oily skin has over other types of skin is that it ages at a slower rate than other skin types.

Smoking is also not good for oily skin as it promotes enlargement of the pores and impairs the overall health of the skin, but basically a lot of the oily skin care is down to basic common sense. Facial skin care is vital as it is the most delicate skin on the body. There are many lotions and potions knocking about, but good facial skin care often involves nothing more than a little extra time and attention when washing, either first thing in the morning, before going out for the evening, or last thing at night. Moisturisers are for both sexes and their effect can be astonishing; revitalising cracked and seemingly tired old skin and restoring confidence.

Stop Squeezing Your Pimples 7 Safe Ways to Get Rid of Pimples

It?s everyone?s worst nightmare. Waking up the day before a special event to discover a big, red pimple baring itself for all to see right on your face!

Here?s how to get rid of it quickly and safely:

    1. Don?t ever pinch, squeeze or pick at a pimple. This only causes it to become more red and inflamed, and will spread the bacteria and oils that caused it in the first place, to other parts of your face! It can also lead to scars.

    2. Every 30 minutes, apply an ice pack to the pimple and hold it there for about 2 minutes. This will decrease the swelling and redness and help shrink the inflammation and pain that sometimes comes along with it.

    3. They don?t call it concealer for nothing! Covering the pimple with a light dose of flesh-tinted concealer can help mask it when you?re in a hurry. It also helps cover up that oily shine.

    4. Cleanse your skin 2-3 times a day with mild, unscented soap or a specialized acne cleanser that has no harsh chemicals (such as lye). Scrub skin gently with an exfoliating pad or washcloth, but don?t rub too hard, otherwise you?ll sap your skin of its own natural oils, which help to repel buildup naturally.

    5. Apply a cream or ointment containing benzyl peroxide or salicylic acid (many over-the-counter acne medicines contain these ingredients) to the blemish or around the entire facial area. Note that these ingredients both have a tendency to dry out skin if used too much and are not recommended if you have sensitive skin.

    6. Wear oil-free makeup whenever possible. These types have less of a tendency to cause the pore buildup that results in blemishes. Remove your makeup nightly and cleanse with an acne-fighting medicine to remove dirt, oil and makeup from deep within the skin.

    7. If you?re in need of a quick fix, a dab of toothpaste on the affected area right before bed can help soothe irritation and reduce redness. Pressing and holding a wet tea bag or a cotton ball with a dab of lemon juice against the blemish for five minutes can also reduce swelling and redness.

If you follow these tips, chances are you?ll notice a significant difference rather quickly ? often within a day or two. If pimples become a recurring problem or worsen, your doctor or dermatologist can suggest a daily skin cleansing routine that will suit your skin type. Other long-term remedies, such as facial masks, diet adjustments and increasing the amount of water you drink can also help combat outbreaks.

Skin Care Do You Sweat Excessively?

If you feel that you sweat excessively, please consult your doctor and find out. There is no measurement of normal sweating. So each of us have to find out if we are sweating excessively, normally or very less. If excess perspiration is your problem, find out more about it below. Please note that excessive sweating may be of two types. In the first instance your body naturally sweats more and in the second instance, you sweat more because of some conditions and diseases. The first condition is called primary hyperhidrosis and the second one is called secondary hyperhidrosis. In primary hyperhidrosis excess sweating occurs mostly on hands, feet and armpits.

    Common reasons for excess sweating-

Some foods and drinks can make you sweat excessively. Drinks that contain alcohol or caffeine may induce excess sweating. Similarly some spicy food may make some people sweat heavily.

Excessive sweating may also be due to hereditary reasons. Please find out if your parents also had this problem.

If you are on medication, find out from your doctor if they are causing excessive sweating. Some drugs induce heavy sweating.

Women going through menopause may get hot flashes and excess sweating. Similarly males who have low levels of male hormone testosterone may experience hot flashes.

Some diseases and conditions can produce profuse sweat. Heart attack, malarial fever, other fevers, thyroid condition, tuberculosis, some fevers, low blood sugars and other diseases may make you sweat excessively. You should consult your doctor about these conditions.

Please consult your doctor if you suddenly break into cold sweat. That may be emotional in origin or physical. Similarly if you find a sudden change in body odor, you should tell your doctor about that. You may suffer some problems if you sweat excessively compared to others. Your toenails may develop fungal infections. Athlete?s foot may be another problem, as may be jock itch. For primary hyperhidrosis many treatments are available that can control the sweat within acceptable limits. Keeping yourself clean and dry at all times is another way of maintaining good hygiene.

    Some Acne Information for You

Severe or moderate Acne can be an upsetting an annoying problem to anyone. While acne treatments for a mild case of acne are usually successful, moderate acne is a greater problem. Even dermatologists cannot cure a severe case of acne but can only provide an acne treatment regimen.

    Follow a specialist advice

After using an oral medicine or any treatment make sure that you understand and follow the directions for applying it. If you are taking a prescription acne medicine, read the patient leaflet that accompanies the medication carefully. In cases of severe and moderate acne, it?s usual that only a professional or a dermatologist may prescribe medicines, each with its own treatment protocol and directions.

When going to a professional, it is important to use all the acne treatments he gives you in a proper and correct order. Consider bringing a tablet of paper, a pen, and a friend or relative with you to your appointment with your dermatologist. Simply jot down some notes about the order and time of day for applying each acne medicine and what its purpose is.

And if your skin seems to be clearing from acne, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have succeeded in curing this skin blemish. Most people with moderate to severe acne must continue to use their acne medicine long-term to prevent any recurrence of their acne problem. Using the acne treatments properly should translate to clear skin and freedom from acne scars.

    Other products for Acne breakouts

There are a large number of products on the market labeled as skin cleansers, facial cleansers, pore cleansers, and facial pore cleaners that can be used in curing acne.

However, when cleansing skin that is afflicted with acne, an important point to remember is not to scrub the skin more than the necessary; never scrub your face with a washcloth. As we said, it is a misconception that acne is caused by dirt clogging the pores of the skin

You will only get a worsen condition of Acne over-washing or scrubbing your skin. Rather use only a gentle skin cleanser, lukewarm water, and a gentle motion with your fingertips as your primary acne skin care regime. And, when you wash your face with your hands, be sure to first thoroughly wash your hands.

Are Natural Treatments an effective choice?

After using medicine that may have side effects on you, try with natural methods to improve Acne. For example, a soap made from Echinacea and other herbal ingredients is an effective antibiotic facial cleanser that helps fight acne and restore clear skin. Tea tree oil also has known antibiotic properties and serves as a mild anesthetic that will soothe the irritated skin. There are also other natural skin care products available that have been proven being effective in improving acne.

It?s important that, no matter how much Acne bothers you, you don?t have to touch those pimples. People who are afflicted with acne should avoid touching their face except to gently wash it with mild cleanser as already discussed.

By trying to remove pimples by hand you run the risk of creating acne scars that will last for a lifetime. Instead, have patience and rely on your prescription or over-the-counter acne treatment to work. Acne remedies usually take from 6 to 8 weeks before curing acne.

You may also have to abandon the use of some cosmetics during the acne treatment period. Be sure to select only oil-free cosmetics and ones that are labeled as non-comodogenic (won't clog pores) to use on your road to clear skin.

Have this basic skin care advices in mind and search the best product for your Acne problem.

Your Skin Are You Creating An Asset or a Liability?

Skincare consists of Skin and Care ? obvious really, but let?s look at exactly what that term means. Anything that is taken good care of will look, last and function better for longer and retain its value.

Maybe we should think about skin care in terms of ?Skin maintenance?, because there are several factors, which constitute good skin care. Consider that your skin is involved in both absorption as well as elimination of chemicals; does it not stand to reason that the healthier your skin is, the better it will be able to fulfil these functions?

Most people think of skin care as keeping your skin clean and if it gets dry, use a moisturiser and that?s that. Well, it?s a start, but far from constituting skin care or maintenance of skin function.

Information on exfoliation, cleansing, toning and moisturising is readily available, and both men and women of all ages should follow these basic skin care concepts. However, as we become older, the type of maintenance needs to change and the skin care regime that is relevant in your 20?s changes as we move through our 30?s, 40?s and beyond.

Your skin is a valuable asset. Treat it well, and you will reap the rewards, treat it badly and it could ultimately kill you!

Skin cancer is a growing concern in the health industry. As the Ozone layer is under ever increasing pressure and indeed thinning over some parts of the World, UV radiation is reaching the Earth?s surface in greater concentration and this is not only having a detrimental effect on our climate and ecosystems, but also affects each and every one of us directly.

UV rays have been shown to cause skin cancer. Getting sunburn is now accepted as a leading cause for skin cancer and guarding against it is not quite as simple as staying out of the sun.

Maintaining a good skin care regime is now more important than ever, and consists of several important parts:

    1. Eating a well balanced, healthy diet which consists of fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, grains and if you choose good quality meat, is paramount to supplying your skin with the nutrition it needs to function at its optimal level.

    2. Water ? you cannot under estimate the body?s need for being well hydrated. Medial research shows that your body requires at least 2-3 litres of water per day to maintain its functions. Dehydration is not as obvious as one might think and can be chronic with few or no symptoms. If you are physically active, you will need to drink even more that 3 litres per day.

    3. Exercise ? Now you do not have to be a ?Gym-Junky?, but being unfit will have consequences that you will ultimately not appreciate; go for a walk 3-4 times a week; use the stairs not the elevator; park the car further away from the office or the shops; join a walking club; ride a bike; play tennis, golf or another sport that gets your body moving ? you don?t have to be an Olympic champion you know, but get moving and have fun.

Finally, there is one more important consideration in the maintenance of your skin ? should you use natural skin care products or will any products do?

The answer is NATURAL, naturally. Think about it from this point of view: When you buy food, do you look for ?no artificial colouring?, ?no artificial flavours?, ?contains not GMO?s (genetically modified organisms), etc., or don?t you care?

What about your drinks, do you not look for 100% natural, low in salt, no artificial this or that, no added sugar, etc. Of course you do. Well, your skin does absorb nutrients whether they are natural or not; it will absorb these chemicals into the tissue and it will then be able to use them, or not. Natural substances are much more easily assimilated in your body and are also more easily eliminated, once they?ve performed their functions.

As scientific research is becoming more sophisticated we are discovering more and more information on how our body works, how foods interact in our systems and how some foods contain substances which are not able to be made synthetically ? well, the same of course stands true for plants. Phyto-estrogens are just one example of naturally occurring substances essential to the wellbeing of our bodies. Similarly, herbal extracts, essential oils, fruit extracts and so on, all contain naturally occurring chemicals, which science is not able to make synthetically due to their complexity.

This means, that the synthetic version of a plant extract (often in concentrated forms) is not the same as the natural version and can in fact have different and even side effects on your body. An old, but good example is Aspirin. We are all aware by now, that Aspirin can cause stomach irritation and even lead to stomach ulcers.

The active ingredient in Aspirin is salicylic acid. It naturally occurs in the bark of the White Willow tree. The big difference between taking Aspirin as opposed to the herbal extract of the White Willow bark, is that in the herbal extract there are many more substances contained which have secondary effects ? one substance for example is a mucilaginous substance, which has the function of protecting your stomach lining! Guess what, there is nothing in Aspirin (from the chemist) that acts to protect your stomach ? That?s the difference between using natural versus artificially manufactured substances.

So, the choice is yours, natural or not, it?s your asset and it is up to you to choose whether you will invest in your asset or withdraw from it.

Dry Cracked Heels ? How To Handle!

I recently moved to Florida and off came the shoes and on went an old pair of sandals. I love the outdoors, - walking on the beach ? but within a couple of weeks the skin on the back of my heels started to split. It was painful!

There were two things here - One, I had to quickly do something about the open split and figure out how it was happening. Well, three things, I had to get it to heal up as well. And make sure it did not happen again ? I guess that?s four.

So, the first thing I did was to put some lotion on my foot. The lotion I used has honey and aloe vera amongst other things. It is called Thentix ?A Touch of Honey?. Any lotion with these anti bacterial properties will help to prevent infection. The next thing I had to do was somehow close and protect the fissure or split. This is not easy on feet. Band-aids don?t work. They won?t stick to the skin on the heel. I?ve done some research on different kinds of glues and from this I know there are medical superglues that are used for suturing. There are certain types of cyanoacrylate* (*the technical term for super glue type glues) that are used for this. Well, I didn?t have one of those and had no idea where to get one but I did have some Miracle Glue(kind of a super glue). Now it is pretty runny so be careful not to try and put this on your foot when sitting on the sofa or over a carpet or kitchen floor. If you spill it, don?t expect to get it off. So, once the lotion has dried, apply some of the glue to the split an allow it to dry. Open to the air like this it will take a little while. I would not advise trying to wipe off any excess with your finger unless you don?t mind hobbling around for a few hours with your finger attached to your foot. Once it is dry you may want to wear shoes and socks for a day or so. Then each night before I go to bed I put some of the Thentix on my whole heel to keep it moist, supple and allow healing.

Putting the lotion on each day like this helps soften the skin as there was quite a callus built up on the back of my heel and the pressure pushing on the back of my heel with lousy sandals was helping the skin to crack. You could also use a pumice stone or something similar to rub off some of the skin. Take it easy on this or you are going to create more problems.

The causes of cracks or fissures in the feet can be caused from: anything that is putting undue pressure on the heel ? standing too long ? particularly in ill fitting shoes or sandals; obesity; as well as some diet problems and other general skin conditions.

    Is it an Ongoing Problem?

On top of the obvious immediate handlings, I would advise seeing a nutritionist or doctor if this is an ongoing problem. A podiatrist or chiropractor may need to be consulted as well to see if posture or other foot problems are the cause. Eczema or psoriasis can also be contributing factors. Using the lotion and glue will help the symptoms in this case but one should definitely see a doctor or nutritionist to search out and handle the cause. The problem could be something as simple as a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

The same sort of problem can happen with hands ? particularly the ends of the fingers. Often people working with chemicals or drying agents like mortar will have problems. Have a look at bricklayers? hands sometime. The ends of his fingers often have cracks in the skin that are very slow to heal. I would suggest the same thing: make sure that the cracks are clean and dry and apply some of the lotion. When that is dry glue run a bead of glue along the fissure. I would not use just any type of glue for this ? if you can find one that?s approved for skin all the better. And use honey lotion as the healing properties of honey can be quite dramatic.

Doing the above, I have been back to wearing sandals with no other ill effects.

    Ayurvedic Medicine System

Ayurveda medicine is a very comprehensive medicine system that is more that 5,000 years old, that is based on a holistic medicine approach that has its roots in Vedic Culture. Inside the word Ayurveda you will see the word veda, which means knowledge, tells us it's important role in ancient hinduism. Charaka Samhita and the Sushruta Samhita are two early texts of Ayurveda. There use to be a tradition of surgery associated with ayurveda.

For the most part Ayurvedic therapies are herbal compounds. This is largerly due to it's ancient roots. In later times alchemical preparations start to enter the ayurvedic pharmacopieia. Ayurveda also provides therapies to treat different vegetable and animal toxins. Examples of this are things like snake, spider and scorpion venom. In fact there is an entire branch of Ayurvedic medicine that deals with the science of toxicology.

The main idea behind Ayurveda is that an organsism adapts to the food and its environment. By then introducing small quantaties of food and or medicine, the organism can adapt to it and learn to resist it. This is quite a basic principle and illustrates the complexity of the immune system and of the body as a whole.

The information provided above is only a breif look at the medicine, and some of it's qualities and idea's. Ayurveda is an extremely interesting form of medicine; it is easy to see why it has stayed with us over the past 5000 years!

Top Tips for Fantastic Skin Keep Young and Healthy from the Inside Out

When you meet people, what do they see? Your face, your skin, that?s what. Your skin condition can say a lot about your health and your lifestyle. Did you know that your skin is the largest organ of your body? An adult human skin weighs around 5kg (11lbs) and has a surface area of 2 sq. metres (22 sq. feet), which is approximately the size of a double bed. Even with your clothes on that?s a lot of target for damage from the outside ? injury, sunlight, cigarette smoke, environmental pollution. So your skin can be damaged by what it is exposed to, and at the same time, it reflects internal emotions (e.g. when you sweat or blush) and conditions (especially the health of your digestive system). The condition of your skin is closely dependant on what you eat.

    Nutrition and Your Skin

Nutrition is fundamentally involved at every stage of your skin development. Collagen makes up 70% of your skin and depends on vitamin C. Dry, rough skin (caused by the build up the protein keratin on the outer layers) can be prevented by Vitamin A. The membranes of skin cells are made from essential fats. Dry skin can be caused by a lack of these fats. The flexibility of your skin is reduced as you get older mainly because of oxidation damage caused by free radicals ? from pollution, cigarette smoke, fried and burnt foods, sunlight. This damage can be limited by nutrients such as vitamins A, C, E and selenium. Lack of zinc can lead to stretch marks and slow wound healing, and is associated with a wide variety of skin problems from acne to eczema.

Foods to Keep You Young and Beautiful

Foods that can enhance your appearance need to feature as many of the following as possible: antioxidants, antibacterials, fibre to clear toxins, essential fats to support skin and reduced levels of saturated fat and sugar.

The sorts of foods where you?ll get this kind of combination are: fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrains, fish, pulses, nuts and seeds.

So, to improve your skin, include the following in your diet:

Apricots, cantaloupe melon, carrots, eggs, liver, pumpkin, red peppers, watercress - contain Vitamin A and beta carotene.

Blackcurrants, broccoli, citrus fruits, kiwi fruit, papaya, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and sprouted seeds ? contain Vitamin C.

Almonds, avocado, eggs, hazelnuts, olive oil, Sunflower seeds, walnuts ? contain Vitamin E.

Brazil nuts, cabbage, chicken, eggs, liver, molasses, mushrooms, onions, seafood, tuna ? contain Selenium.

Almonds, chicken, cauliflower, carrots, cucumber, eggs, oats, potatoes, sardines, tuna ? contain Zinc.

And reduce your intake of these:

    Alcohol

Coffee/tea (no more than 2 cups per day)

    Sugar

Saturated fat (found in meat and dairy products).

And think about these other factors:

Avoid strong sunlight and use a sun block (sunlight causes oxidative damage and speeds the ageing process of your skin).

Wash your skin with a gentle oil-based cleanser, not soap, and consider what is in your skin products such as your moisturiser (many cosmetics contains strong petroleum/alcohol based substances ?remember these are absorbed through the skin).

Take regular exercise (it stimulates blood flow, which will enhance delivery of oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells).

Drink plenty of water (6-8 glasses per day (1- 1? litres)) to hydrate the skin. Too little water can be a major factor in dry skin.

Consider taking some nutritional supplements: a good quality multivitamin and mineral supplement; vitamin C; an antioxidant blend (containing at least vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium); and an essential fatty acid supplement (linseed oil, fish oil or evening primrose oil or oil blend). Remember supplements should be considered as an addition to a good diet and healthy lifestyle, not a replacement for one.

Use a skin brush for your body (upward strokes working from feet to torso) and an exfoliation cream for your face. Exfoliation helps to clear blocked pores and smooth away dead, dry skin.

If that sounds a lot to think about, don?t let it put you off. You can have the skin you deserve, the skin that reflects a healthier you. Just take it step by step. First introduce apricots, cantaloupe melon etc (the Vitamin A foods). Then when you?ve worked through introducing the healthier range of foods, start reducing the alcohol and sugar. In no time at all you?ll be on the road to better health and better skin.

Oily Skin Why Some Of Us Have Oily Skin

    Oily Skin- A Trouble?

Oily skin is a big trouble for many of us. Why our skin oozes more oils than others is a big mystery for the sufferers. The skin attracts more dirt and is more prone to acne. it has shining look and causes all types of cosmetic problems. Why do we have that kind of skin? Can we do something to eliminate this problem forever? Let us find out.

Skin- Why Does It Produce Oils?

Our skin produces sebum. This sebum is mainly made of lipids. The sebum protects us from microbial infections and keeps our skin moist. Along with sebum, we also produce sweat. Our skin also sheds dead skin cells. All these combine and form a layer on the skin. Those who have oily skin, produce more of sebum. Hormones mainly activate the sebum production and some of us are genetically conditioned to produce more oils. To learn more about sebum, click here. You should talk with your doctor if anything can be done with the hormones.

    Oily Skin Management-

To manage oily skin the only common way is to use oil free products. Wash your face at least twice a day with soap. Use oil absorbing blotting papers. Use more of powder products. Astringents will remove lot of oil and so do the toners. Look after your oily skin because you will get fewer wrinkles than those who have dry skin. They will envy you after some years.

Everything You Need to Know about Acne

Acne or commonly known as zits or pimples are skin inflammation affecting 87% of the total US population. They usually appear during puberty because of abnormal response of the body to the male hormone known as testosterone.

    Causes

Until now, the causes of acne are still being investigated. However, scientific studies show that it can be hereditary. Other factors linked to zits are the following:

    1. Skin irritation.

    2. Use of Anabolic steroids. Most body builders are taking these synthetic hormones for faster growth of muscles and bone tissues.

    3. Stress that increase hormones from adrenal glands.

    4. Exposure to chlorine compounds like chlorinated dioxins.

    Treatment

Most people who are suffering from acne on their teens notice decrease or total disappearance of acne when they reach their early twenties without seeking treatment. However, there are some who are suffering from it for decades. The following are proven treatment against acne.

    1. Exfoliation.

This can be done through the use of liquid scrub, abrasive cloth, or other exfoliating agents that allow the skin to peel to prevent dead skin cells build-up. This process also unblocks clogged pores.

    2. Antibiotics.

There are 2 kinds of antibiotics that are being used to treat acne: These are topical antibiotics and oral antibiotics.

Topical antibiotics are applied directly to the affected area. They are being used to remove bacteria trapped on the follicles. This is more popular compare to oral antibiotics because it eliminates possible side effects like drug interactions or stomach upset.

Oral antibiotics on the other hand regulate cell behaviour and reduce oil secretion to unclog the pores.

    3. Hormonal treatments.

This treatment works best for females. Oral contraceptive pills contains progestogen and oestrogen that can help in reducing acne. Some dermatologists administer an injection containing cortisone directly to a large pimple that reduces inflammation and redness almost immediately.

    Advanced treatments

Dermatologists are now considering the use of laser surgery not only to reduce acne scars but also to prevent acne formation. This can be done by burning the sebaceous gland and follicle sac to induce oxygen that kills the bacteria causing acne. This is recommended to people who are suffering from severe acne.

    Acne scars

Severe acne leaves scars that are very expensive and difficult to treat. Although there are no guarantees that acne scars will be removed completely, there are scar treatments that lessen them. These are the following:

    1. Dermabrasions.

This treatment removes the top layer of the skin using high-speed wire brush making the acne scar less visible. People who are suffering from severe acne will need multiple treatments to get desired results. This can only be done by cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists.

    2. Microdermabrasion.

The newest technique in dermatology that enhances dermabrasion. This is being done by rubbing tiny crystals on the affected area using suction tool.

    3. Chemical peeling.

This treatment uses organic acid like salicylic, glycolic, or lactic acid to remove the top layer of the skin so that smoother layer will surface. This is generally painless and does not require anaesthetic.

    Prevention

Several books were introduced in the market stating that acne can be prevented by following strict diet and avoiding dairy products. They also suggest that adequate exercise and proper hygiene can save anyone from acne problem.

Acne can be a tough case however, knowing how to keep it away from your face is the strongest weapon you can have to enjoy a beautiful face and life.

Sunburn: Skin Cancer and Aging of the Skin

The experience of sunburn can be a very efficient (i.e. painful) reminder to heed adequate protection on future occasions. However more importantly, it should be a reminder of the long-term effects of sun exposure on our bodies and health ? which can include aging of the skin and skin cancer.

In order to more fully understand these consequences, let?s take a look at exactly what sunburn is, its symptoms and its effect on the body.

Sunburn results when the amount of exposure to the sun, or other ultraviolet light source (e.g. tanning lamps and welding arcs etc.), exceeds the ability of the body's protective pigment, melanin, to protect the skin. Melanin content varies greatly, but in general darker skinned people have more melanin than lighter skinned. (Although fairer skinned people are generally more prone to getting sunburn than darker skinned people, this certainly does not exclude the latter from risk.)

Sunburn destroys cells in the outer layer of the skin, damaging tiny blood vessels underneath. Burns deeper into the skin?s layers also damage elastic fibers in the skin, which over time and with repeated sun overexposure, can result in the appearance of yellowish, wrinkled skin.

The damage to skin cells from UV exposure (either sunlight or tanning lamps etc.) can also include damage to their DNA. It?s this repeated DNA damage, which can lead to a cell becoming cancerous. With the incidence of skin cancer rising dangerously in many parts of the world, and with its ability to develop and establish itself in the body ?long? before external signs are detected, -- paying attention to this aspect of sun exposure and sunburn should certainly not be ignored if we are serious about preserving our health.

Now while it may be easier to ignore the effects of sunburn occurring at a cellular level, ignoring the external symptoms of sunburn in the days immediately following such exposure is entirely another matter.

While sunburn is usually not immediately obvious, skin discoloration (ranging from slightly pink to severely red or even purplish) will initially appear from 1 ? 24 hours after exposure. Although pain is usually worst 6 ? 48 hours afterward, the burn can continue to develop for 24 ? 72 hours after the incident. Where there is skin peeling, this generally occurs 3 ? 8 days after the burn occurs.

While minor sunburns typically cause nothing more than warm/hot skin, slight redness, and tenderness to the affected area, -- in more serious cases, extreme redness, swelling and blistering can occur. These blisters filled with fluid may itch and eventually break. This can then cause peeling of the skin, exposing an even tenderer layer of skin underneath.

Severe sunburn can cause very red, blistered skin but can also be accompanied by fever, chills, nausea (in some cases vomiting), and dehydration. In instances of extreme sunburn where the pain is debilitating, medical treatment may be required.

While the immediate effects of sunburn can certainly be painful and cause discomfort, the real deterrent to UV overexposure should be the potential damage to your long-term health ? including the risk of premature aging of the skin along with skin cancer.

Don?t let sunburn and sun overexposure kill your chances of enjoying youthful skin, and a healthy body. Remember, the easiest way to treat sunburn will always be to avoid it in the first place!

The Healing Powers Of Water Can Enhance Your Power Of Touch

Water is one of nature?s gifts as it can be used in numerous ways and can also benefit us it many ways. Its use for therapeutic purposes has been known for thousands of years and by many cultures. We know that it was a major part of Greek and Egyptian medicine to the point that the ancient Greeks believed that seawater had the power to take away malignant tumors and revitalize the nervous system.

There are bathing places built on the shores of the Dead Sea, as it has been renowned for thousands of years as having beneficial effects on the body. Lakes that are high in mineral salts are used by people all over the world as the salts penetrate the body through the pores and have a great therapeutic effect on the skin and total body. They can actually detoxify the body, increase blood and lymph circulation and help speed up the elimination of wastes in the body.

There are many hotels based on the shores on the Dead Sea, which offer a wide range of spa treatments. These Dead Sea minerals are also sold for home use in bathes, body and hair treatments as well as other personal uses.

Another treatment from the Dead Sea is mud baths, which are rich in dissolved mineral salts, and plant extracts. It is another way of cleansing the skin and treating arthritis and skin disorders. Various types of mud are used in salon treatments because they act powerfully on the skin?s surface taking away impurities such as dead cells and grime caused by pollution in the air.

A further medical treatment using seawater is known as thalassotherapy which when used can alleviate stress and fatigue, regulate blood pressure, purify the body and soothe muscular aches and pains. It also assists in improving the skin and hair quality as well as recharging the body by replacing some necessary nutrients.

Floating around in water can also promote deep relaxation and there are many clinics using floatation tanks for this very purpose. Flotation allows you to unwind and even meditate if you so wish. The flotation tanks used have mineral salts, which enables your body to float and in turn allows you to become mentally and physically relaxed.

Many of us have been in a spa and felt the soothing and relaxing effects of the jets and bubbles. These days you can have your very own spa at home, which means that you can get that relaxing experience whenever you want.

Anther similar piece of equipment you can have at home is a power shower which when used stimulates the blood and lymph circulation. I also discovered that women can restore tone to sagging breasts by using alternate sprays of hot and cold water performed on a daily basis for about one minute. Also power showers used in specific areas such as thighs and buttocks can break down fats and help take away toxins through better circulation.

We have all heard of people jumping into icy cold water in the name of good health and thought they were all mad! Well I am here to tell you that research has shown that cold-water baths can boost the production of the blood-thinning enzyme called TPA, which helps in preventing blood clots. Other reactions to the cold water are the release of various hormones into the blood stream, which stimulate the thyroid and thereby increase the oxygen consumption of the blood cells.

Cold water has also been found to increase the production of white blood cells, which are very important in fighting off infection. Many people with chronic fatigue syndrome have also benefited from cold-water baths.

We can go on and on about the virtues of water but that would make this article more like a book. I only wanted to introduce you to some of the ways you can use water to provide healthy benefits. Some of you may want to learn more about water?s magic and you can do this by visiting your local library or bookshop.

    Natural Prescription for Eczema

-Identify food allergies and eliminate the offending foods from you diet. Eggs, milk, cheese, chocolate, peanuts, soy, potatoes, and the glutens in wheat are common allergenic foods. It will take four to six weeks for the results of an allergen-free diet to be observed, so be patient.

-Investigate the possibility of the food additive tartrazine contributing to the eczema and, if it does, eliminate it from the diet.

-Eat fatty fish like salmon, herring, and mackerel at least twice a week.

    Some steps to relieve symptoms:

-Do not use hot water for bathing and showering: Use warm water.
-Use bath oil to soften skin. Use a nondrying soap substitute instead of soap
-Do not use over-the-counter ointments that contain benzocaine or antibiotics.
-Avoid lanolin in skin lotions, cosmetics, cleansers, and the like.
-Try to avoid temperature extremes and any activity that will involve excessive sweating.
-Aerobic exercise is beneficial to eczema and other skin ailments. Just be sure to take a warm shower after exercise to wash away sweat.
-Avoid any oily or greasy ointment that prevents skin from breathing.
-Try to wear cotton and other natural fibers next to your skin with the exception of wool, which you should avoid.
-As stress can exacerbate eczema, practice stress reduction techniques.

    Face Lift Without Surgery

As we age facial muscles weaken, and skin begins to sag. But just as gym workouts can promote the body's youthful strength and suppleness, facial exercise - based on the same principles of dynamic resistance - can strengthen facial muscles. If sagging muscles in your face chin and neck are aging you beyond your years there is a way to reverse the process and make you look healthier, more vibrant, younger.

Facial exercise can transform your looks without cosmetic surgery. One thing facial exercises won?t do is cause wrinkles, but some people think they do. This is absolutely wrong. Properly done facial exercise most certainly does not cause wrinkles.

In fact, exercising the face helps to make women and men look younger for longer, by toning and tightening the facial muscles, just like toning the muscles of the body firms them up.

But, don't make the mistake of thinking that all facial exercise programs are the same. Expensive devices will not give you better results. Electrodes are very hard to position properly and can be painful if you have sensitive skin.

Sagging, bagging and deep hanging folds in older looking faces are, caused by lack of facial tone. Exercising the muscles in your face is crucial to maintaining a young appearance. Beauty treatments with creams can't lift sagging muscles.

Surgical facelifts can be costly, painful and sometimes dangerous. Give your face a structured work out and you?ll reap the benefits for all the years to come. Our program includes deep breathing to enhance your exercises. The deep breathing will not only bring extra oxygen to your facial muscles, but to your whole body. Oxygen is the key to these exercises.

Some surgeons even give facial exercises to their patients after their face-lift. Why not, just skip the surgeon and do the exercise? A good facial exercise program lifts and tones the facial muscles. My program comes with a guarantee, and I have yet to refund any money. Reasons for Joining a Gym or Keeping Fit

I was asked by one of my friends a couple of days ago on the reason I personally am into bodybuilding/getting into shape.. Besides the obvious health benefits.. she wanted to know what drives me. Well, read on...

Hmm. I don't think I've ever really put much thought into this before.. but let me attempt to analyze. I decided to first surf around the net to see what motivated the OTHERS to pursue a similar goal, and here are some of the answers I came across:

Some Reasons People Join the Gym: 1. I'm sick of being skinny as a twig.
    2. People say I look sick and unhealthy.
    3. When I wear a sleeveless or body hugging shirt, I don't look impressive in it.
    4. A muscular man attracts chicks like magnets.
    5. I wanna look as fit as the Americans. They're more beefier than the locals.
    6. Bodybuilding makes a girl like you!
    7. It gives me self confidence.
    8. I wanna turn women on.
    9. I'm tired of being fat and unhealthy.

Some are just amusing.. but if you ask me, I'd say that I could relate to reason #7 the most. I believe that lifting weights to improve your physique portrays to everyone that you possess a desire for Self-improvement, to become greater than you are, that you're disciplined, and are dedicated.

In case you didn't notice by now, most people with strong powerful physiques exude a type of confidence not seen in regular people (dont confuse confidence with arrogance.. some may push it and be arrogant instead.. but thats no good and they deserve to be spanked). They don't need fancy clothes to look good or to show off. Their physique says it all, and at the end of the day, it DEMANDS a 'subconscious' respect because you know when you see a bodybuilder with an amazing physique - you know that he's got what it takes to improve himself to such an extent. You know that he's gone through the struggles. He's got discipline, puts up with the pain, the task of watching his diet, etc.

Now back to me.. I think somewhere along the road, just for a short period of time, I did sorta do it to impress the opposite sex (come on.. get real - who hasnt?). But very shortly after that, I began to realise that it wasn't working (ha ha) - or perhaps I was meeting the wrong kinda women? Anyway... I realised that there was definitely more to being fit and looking good than attracting others - it was personal satisfaction. Now that's something you can't buy from your pharmacy or supplement store.

Honestly - I got involved into this 'world' not because I wanted to... In fact.. I dreaded stepping foot into the gym for the very first time. It was my mom who persuaded me to join the gym.. (guess she didnt have the heart to say to me - Son, you're FAT!). It was hot, the air was dry (it wasnt air conditioned), the treadmill (yes, there was only ONE) and the three bikes were rusty..the carpet smelled like something died underneath.. it was all wrong. How could I ever grow to like such a lifestyle? Boy was I wrong.

So I guess.. to summarise - I got into this without realising what was in store for me. But once I tasted it.. I just couldnt get enough. I always tell people to never give up for at least 3 months. If you do everything right, and persevere for JUST 3 MONTHS - I promise you will see results. If you don't, THEN you can walk away, and tell the whole world it didnt work (which I still believe will be because you did something wrong).

I guess I'm lucky to be where I am today, and I'm glad that today, I'm doing it for the right reasons. I guess at the end of the day, it also boils down to what motivates you. If it's the opposite sex you're after.. and that drives you, then by all means, go ahead. Its the results that counts. Always do whatever it takes to get you there (I'm not talking about performance enhancing drugs though, cos that's cheating yourself and robbing you of your health).

What Exactly is Jojoba Oil and Why is It Used so Much in Skin Care Products?

Back in 1822, a small shrub was discovered in the desert near Baja California by a botanist named H. F. Link. Mr. Link named this new plant after a fellow botanist from the U.K. named T. W. Simmonds. The proper named of the Jojoba plant is Simmondsia chinensis. It wasn't until after the U.S. banned whale hunting that this plant started to be cultivated. Up until then, the oil of whales was used in skin care products and cosmetics. After the ban, much research was done to find more suitable replacements for the skin and hair care industries.

The Jojoba plant produces a bean pod and it was discovered that heating the beans caused an oil to be secreted. The desert peoples of Southern California and Mexico had long been using this oil to treat skin conditions and cuts. The Japanese did some research on Jojoba oil and found it to be nontoxic to the human skin. In addition, soon it was known the amazing properties of this oil.

Jojoba oil is actually a wax that is liquid at room temperatures. The 'oil' has similar chemical makeup to the sebum oil that our skin produces naturally. In fact, it is one of the most easily absorbed vegetable oils available today. Because of this, it was soon used to produce all kinds of hair and skin care products.

The oil is wonderful for people who suffer from sensitive skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema. It helps soften your skin and when applied to your hair will increase its shine. It is also known to help reduce wrinkles and other lines associated with aging. In addition, it helps promote the growth of new skin cells. It even has some anti-bacterial qualities too.

Because of these amazing properties, there is no wonder it is being used in the manufacturing of all kinds of hair products, replenishing skin care products, wrinkle reduction treatments, acne control products and even cosmetics. You can find the oil for sale individually too. A 4 oz bottle can be purchased for as little as $8 and can be used to make your own moisturizing cream at home.

Take your favorite essential oil, such as lavender, and add 40 to 50 drops to a 4 oz bottle. Apply to liberally to your skin and rub until it has been absorbed.

The Jojoba plant was an important and necessary discovery. Its amazing properties help people all over the world look better, feel better about themselves and helps people who suffer from disabilitating skin conditions. If you purchase it, look for organically grown Jojoba oil and make sure it is pressed and not chemically extracted.

Taking care of your skin early is the best way to prevent aging of your skin. Our goal is to provide information and resources for you to find anti-aging skin care and wrinkle protection at any age. Visit Anti Aging Skin Care for more information on natural skin care and acne skin care.

    AntiWrinkle Lifestyle Tips

Experts say that, when it comes to getting wrinkles, 10% is genetics -- but the other 90% is environment and lifestyle. This is great news! Why? Because it means that you have A LOT of control over your skin and how badly - and quickly - it wrinkles. In fact, you can begin today to make lifestyle changes that will literally save your skin and prevent wrinkles as long as possible. Specifically, the following lifestyle tips are proven to protect and nurture your skin:

    1. Protect your skin from the sun - Without a doubt, the sun is your skin's worst enemy. The ultraviolet radiation in sunlight causes the collagen and elastin in your skin to break down, which leads to premature wrinkles. One of the best lifestyle changes you can make is to wear a good sunscreen, everyday.

    2. Don't smoke - The harmful toxins in cigarette smoke do all kinds of bad things to your skin, especially your facial skin. Not only does it break down collagen and elastin, just like sunlight does, but it also destroys your skin from the inside. You can't inhale toxins all day and expect your skin to be healthy. If you smoke, do whatever you have to do to quit. If you don't smoke, don't even think about starting!

    3. Don't drink - Alcohol is not good for your skin. One or two drinks occasionally probably won't hurt. But if you're drinking every day, your skin definitely isn't going to be as healthy as it could be. Besides containing toxins, alcohol also dehydrates your body, which is never good for the skin. Old drinkers almost always have more wrinkles and uglier skin with more blotches than non-drinkers.

    4. Get enough sleep - When you don't get enough sleep, for even one night, you look and feel horrible. But when you are chronically sleep-deprived your skin can literally begin to breakdown. Why? Because you aren't letting it repair itself. Your skin is your body's largest organ, and your body repairs its organs while your sleeping. Try going to bed earlier and at the same time every night. Also, you may want to try the natural supplement melatonin. Recent research shows that you only need about .3 mg to fall asleep and wake up without feeling groggy, much less than the 1 - 3 milligrams contained in most melatonin supplements.

    5. Lower stress - Doctors have long known that stress has many negative effects on the body. Chronically high stress levels hurt the skin without a doubt. First, if you're always stressed out, you're probably not getting enough quality sleep (see above). Second, the stress hormones that are produced in a high-stress state are very damaging to your skin. Third, when you're stressed, your skin receives less blood flow because your body directs more of its blood to your internal organs, in an effort to prepare itself for flight or fight - the reason stress exists in the first place.

    6. Eat antioxidants - Antioxidants boost your body's ability to fight free radicals and protect the skin from damage. Many of the new anti-wrinkle skin creams contain tons of antioxidant ingredients. Colorful fresh fruits and vegetables are some of your best sources of antioxidants. But you should also consider supplementing with extra vitamin C and vitamin E. Also, some people have gotten great healthy skin results with the new OPC dietary supplements.

    Lipo Boom Reality

Are you feeling down and out? Do you feel even worse when you look in the mirror? Cosmetic surgeons tell us you are not alone. They say the popularity of reality television shows like ABC TV?s ?Extreme Makeover? has led to an increasing boom in cosmetic surgery. You may be one of the many people who are not happy with the way you look. Look in the mirror right now and tell me what you see. Do you see flabby thighs, a sagging chin or a tubby tummy? If so, then liposuction could be just what the doctor ordered.

Liposuction is also known in the medical arena as lipoplasty or ?lipo? for short. Lipo surgically removes excess fat from deposits beneath the skin in many areas of the body. The procedure sounds like it hurts. Surgeons use a hollow stainless steel tube called a cannula. The cannula is hooked up to a vacuum. It is inserted into an incision in the skin. Fat deposits are then gently sucked out of the body.

?It didn?t hurt at all,? says 25-Year old Jenn Rogers. Rogers is the mother of three year old twins. She decided to have lipo to get her post baby abdomen back. She says, ?I tried so hard through exercise and diet to do it. But, nothing I tried would work.? Liposuction is quickly becoming one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery for that very reason. It targets the areas of fat we?d like to shoot away. It is commonly used to reduce fat in the abdomen, hips, butt, thighs, chin, neck, back, chest and arms. Can you believe that doctors also use lipo on the knees, ankles and calves? As you can see, liposuction will work on just about anywhere you see fat and want to hide it!

It sounds like it hurts, doesn?t it? Well, the amount of pain depends on individual circumstances. Liposuction can be achieved painlessly by local or general anesthesia. However doctors consider liposuction a mild surgical procedure. It is performed using a general or local anesthesia. A heavy IV sedation is also used in some cases. Recent advances have done a lot to ease the pain. Doctors can now precisely target fat areas which help to reduce recovery times. Despite the recent popularity, lipo has actually been around for more than a decade. ?I had my first liposuction in 1992. It was before anyone even knew about it. I wanted to reduce the signs of aging in my face,? says retired school teacher, 69 Year Old Rebecca Long. The grandmother of three has had three additional procedures since then. She laughs, ?People now confuse my daughter with being my sister. I don?t know if that?s good for her, or bad!?

You may be wondering whether liposuction is for you. Some folks figure if they have the greenbacks then they can do it. But, whether you have the money to pay for it is just one of the factors you should consider. It is important that a surgeon be board certified for the technique that they are going to use. You?ll want to look at his or her experience and safety record.

Liposuction is not risk free. There are many things that can go wrong. Complications can occur due to a poor judgment on the part of the doctor. The better educated you are on the procedure, the greater you chances of spotting a problem before it occurs. You should be concerned about disfiguring skin irregularities that can occur if the surgeon tries to take too much fat away in one procedure. The use of a large cannula can also affect the outcome of your procedure.

Large cannula?s remove fat quickly. However, they are more likely to lead to skin irregularities then small cannulas do. Small cannulas are less than 3 millimeters in diameter. There?s a strong chance you?ll need a large cannula depending on the amount of fat you need taken away. Surgeons use the small cannula?s during the Tumescent Procedure. The American Medical Association says this technique when used with local anesthesia is the safest. Under this method, the diluted local anesthesia lasts for hours reducing the need for narcotic pain relief. Doctors say there have been no reported deaths under this procedure. In addition, even if it?s used with general anesthesia, Tumescent Procedure is safe if there?s no large fat removal.

There is another surgical method that utilizes a modified version of the Tumescent Procedure. This modified version combines local anesthesia with general anesthesia or IV sedation. General anesthesia and IV sedation may be dangerous when used alone, just imagine the danger when they?re put together. As a result, an anesthesiologist must be on hand to handle the administration.

You?ll also want to make sure that you don?t have any other surgical procedures the same day as your liposuction. You?ll want to avoid long term exposure to anesthesia because it?s dangerous. Taking away a large amount of fat can lead to serious complications. Also, removing an excessive amount from too many areas can also be dangerous. You?ll also want to make sure that you don?t have any other surgical procedures the same day as your liposuction. Healing can occur quickly thanks to all the advances in liposuction.

Liposuction recovery times are shorter today than a couple of decades ago. You can return to a normal lifestyle within four after surgery with most procedures. However, a little bit of local anesthetic remains in your system. It is later absorbed into the blood stream. Would you believe that draining the anesthetic solution out of your incision actually speeds your rate of healing? It also reduces swelling and bruising after surgery.

Drainage is also speeded up by leaving the incisions open instead of closing with sutures. Your surgeon can also make tiny holes in your skin to force drainage. Your surgeon may also encourage you to spandex clothes to promote more drainage. Your surgeon can also drain it through absorptive pads that are placed over your incisions. Despite the surgical concerns, liposuction is changing lives like Jenn and Rebecca?s. It can improve body posture and image ultimately leading to a happier, healthier, you.

Acne And It's Causes And What Is Available To Aid In The Fight

Acne is cause by many things. Most common cause of acne is certain oily substances and the build up of dirt, and the use of certain type of prescription medications. But the single most common factor that has been known to cause acne is the secretion of androgens. Commonly known as the human sex hormones that are, and do become overly active at the time of puberty. The male hormone known as androgens that are present in both male and females alike, they are the cal prate. They are what produce the oil in the oil glands. During puberty these oil glands become over active which in turn causes a build up of oil that in turn acts like a traffic jam meaning that it is very slow moving and backs up. It?s this very thing that causes the pus to build up and form pimples or acne.

Certain herbal Remedies that have been proven to help against acne are herbs such as chamomile, lavender, juniper, bergamot, dandelion root, and burdock root can be used to reduce toxicity and improve the overall condition of the skin. Echinacea and poke root are often used for their anti-inflammatory properties. Witch hazel has excellent astringent properties and may be very effective on acne.

In most cases acne does affect the way you look and yes, and acne can be considered a threat to your physical as well as your personal well being. The simple fact remains that in some cases acne can lead to permanent scaring which is more than just cosmetic. Acne affects people psychologically. It is known to affect the way they perceive themselves, their self-esteem and confidence. as well as the way they interaction with others. It can cause a person to experience such feelings like frustration, depression and social embarrassment.

To fight acne effectively the battle can be fought from within. With the use of natural herbs and the proper care Acne can be controlled. By the proper use of such proven herbs, the body can be made to prevent the harmful oil build up that are caused by the imbalance of hormones that is caused during puberty. The answer to acne is really a lot simpler then it has been in the previous years. To control the problems of acne you need to control the problems of a chemical imbalance in the body. Years ago there were no such solutions to the problems. Other then trying to keep your face clean and avoid certain foods that where suppose to be the cause of acne. Today we know that the consumption of certain foods did not in fact cause acne. But there are facts that prove that the consumption of certain foods could in fact help to fight acne. Because these certain foods have the same properties the natural herbs have to break down the build up, and help control the chemical imbalance in the body.

Robert Emler: I to have dealt with the problems that come with dealing with acne. I also have the scars that can prove it. Thanks to the advances in science and technologies of today. I have been able to keep my children from experiencing the same horrifying experiences that I dealt with as a child because of acne. All I want to say is if you love your child and don?t want them to suffer this unfortunate problem that ninety percent of all people will endure. Then you should take advantage of what is available out there that works or has been proven to be successful. How Sleep Affects Our Skin

Sleep is a natural, temporary loss of consciousness (Robinson, 1941) necessary for our bodies to build up energy reserves and regenerate body cells and tissues. During sleep, the heart beats more slowly, breathing becomes slower, growth hormones peak, muscles relax and body temperature lowers. Newborn infants sleep almost continuously, gradually decreasing their need for sleep. In early childhood, 12 to 13 hours of sleep are generally required and this amount decreases to approximately 8 hours in adulthood. After the age of 50, sleep is often characterized by frequent night time wakenings, shorter dream lengths and less overall sleep (Bricklen, 1990).

Many consider sleep to be of low priority among the many daily activities engaged in. It is estimated that the world's population is depriving itself of one less hour of sleep per night than is needed (Awake!, 2004). Despite this view of night-time rest, sleep is a necessary, sophisticated process regulated by the brain. Operating as a 24- hour clock, chemical substances, such as melanin, are released in the body to trigger sleepiness.

There are two main stages of sleep classified according to eye movement. The first is REM or rapid eye movement which is a shallow, dream-filled sleep. There are four sub-stages within REM sleep. The first sub-stage lasts 30 seconds to 7 minutes, and during this time the muscles relax while the brain produces irregular wave activity. The second sub-stage lasts 20 percent of the night and brain waves become larger as the body is asleep. The next sub-stage is called delta sleep, where growth hormones peak, and cell and tissue repair take place.

Without delta sleep, which accounts for half of a night's sleep, one will feel tired the next day. Every 90 minutes the brain enters the dream sub-stage, where brain wave activity is similar in pattern to being awake, but muscles are not able to move as when awake. This stage lengthens each repeated cycle during the night, and is crucial to preserving mental health and long term memory, since the brain sorts through short term memory and 'deletes' unimportant data. The second major stage of sleep is non-REM, or non rapid eye movement, where blood pressure drops and heart rate slows as the person enters a deep sleep.

Short term sleep deprivation causes little physical harm, since the body compensates for the lack of sleep by increasing its adrenaline levels during the day. The body also attempts to get more sleep at a later time. A temporary shift in attitude may occur, such as feelings of pessimism or negativity (Bricklin, 1990). Sleep deprivation, even short term, can be dangerous if driving a car, or operating machinery. Sleep deprivation is thought to be the cause of half of all traffic fatalities on U.S. highways, and being awake 17 to 19 hours can cause the same limited reaction and ability as having a 0.05 percent blood alcohol limit (Awake! 2004). It is also implicated in many workplace accidents.

Chronic sleep deprivation, which is caused by prolonged shortages of sleep, can lead to paranoia or hallucinations. This is also termed 'sleep debt', and is characterized by irregular sleep patterns that do not allow the body to enter delta sleep. This can bring on a short attention span, memory and vocabulary loss as well as other symptoms. Among women aged 25-50 who tend to be perfectionists, many tend to suffer from shallow sleep as the wake centre of the brain remains active when it should be relatively inactive. Other complications from sleep deprivation include obesity, premature aging, fatigue, chronic memory loss and increased risk for diabetes, infection, cardiovascular disease and gastrointestinal disease. It is important, therefore, to obtain an adequate amount of sleep each night, since sleep also helps the body metabolize free radicals, which are thought to accelerate aging and cancerous growths.

Obtaining a good night's rest can be achieved. The following are suggestions to help towards the goal of night-time rest:

    - Avoid stimulants like caffeinated drinks before bed.

    - Avoid eating a heavy meal at night. A light snack might help if hunger causes you to wake up at night.

    - Create a pleasant, warm (body temperature drops when sleepy), noise-free bedroom with a comfortable mattress and pillow.

    - Avoid exercise before bed, however, regular exercise during the day aids sleep.

    - Avoid activities that increase anxiety, such as considering financial matters or discussing serious problems before bed.

    - If possible, a quick daytime nap lasting 20 to 30 minutes can impart positive physiological benefits. Prolonged naps impair sleep at night and may cause insomnia.

    - If experiencing insomnia, try getting up and engaging in another activity for a brief time and then attempt sleep again.

    - A warm glass of milk contains tryptophan, a natural substance thought to aid sleep.

    - Keep the bedroom dark, since the area of the brain which controls the sleep cycle is close to the optic nerves and thus sensitive to light (feeling awake) and dark (feeling sleepy).

    - Quit smoking, which increases blood pressure, heart rate and brain wave activity.

How can you know if you are a healthy sleeper?

    - Sleep comes easily at night.

    - You rarely wake up during the night and can fall back asleep with ease.

    - You wake at the same time each morning without an alarm.

    - You feel alert during the day and do not feel the need to nap.

Getting a good night's rest refreshes the body, mind and attitude. It is as vital to our health as good food and exercise. The phrase beauty rest is more than a quaint idea, it is a fundamental task in the quest for external and internal beauty.

Salicylic Acid! Helps Prevent Acne One Skin Layer At A Time

Salicylic acid is a term that has been around for many years in the skin care industry, and if you happen to be new to buying skincare products that contain this treatment medicine, then it's a good idea to know what it is, and how it helps in aiding in your skin's health.

Like any product on the market today, it's always best to be educated on what you're using, and obtain as much information on how to prevent any future skin reactions or problems.

Normally the products with salicylic ingredients that are sold over the counter in retail stores are safe, but it becomes un-safe when individuals use these items with a combination of other chemicals that may react together and cause skin irritation.

This is why it's so important to read the bottles instructions and make sure that if there is anything on that container that you don't understand, you should contact a medical doctor to get more facts. This would definitely apply when you notice your first symptoms of acne breakouts, or excess blackheads and whiteheads, and you want to find out what is best for your condition!

Health Benefits Of Beta Hydroxy Acids, Also Know As Salicylic Acids

If you're reading labels and you notice beta hydroxy acid and Salicylic acid in the same context, it's because they are one of the same. We won't get into the technical explanation of the ingredients; all you need to know is this medicine is derived and naturally occurs in select plant species.

The benefit of this acidic component is that it easily penetrates deep into your hairs follicle opening, and helps un-plug the build-up of your skins natural production of oil. It is medically proven to help decrease inflammation of newly formed blemishes, whiteheads, and also your stubborn blackheads!

In plain English, Beta-Hydroxy (Salicylic Acid) gets deep into the skins pores and exfoliates your dead skin cells, and this helps clear out the trapped oil to prevent bacteria from feasting on this excess skin and oil, which eventually develops into your red irritated infections.

When Using Acidic Topical Solutions, You Should Be Aware Of The Many Cautions!

As mentioned earlier, you must be knowledgeable about the chemicals that you're using! The reason this is so important is that you may not notice at first what level of Salicylic Acid concentration is safe to use on your particular condition. If you happen to obtain a higher percentage of solution than the average over-the-counter brands, then you may risk severe irritation and burning of your skin if not used properly.

Other precautions you should take when using this medicine, is try to avoid using at the same time a combination of alcohol based cleansers, and other medicinal solutions such as benzoyl peroxide, and soaps that easily dry your face and contains ingredients that exfoliates as well.

If you have been diagnosed with Rosacea, it's extremely important to consult your Dermatologist, because this product may have reverse effects on treating this select skin disease, and may cause more damage than good! However, if you're diagnosed with regular to severe acne, and not Rosacea, used properly, this beneficial medication can aid in breaking down dead skin-cells, blackheads, and whiteheads, and help you achieve a softer looking and clearer face.

Remember to educate yourself on the Acid concentrations of the products you purchase, and also find out what you can and cannot use in combination in your blemish fighting efforts, and in the long-term treatment process you will eventually get on the right path to an acne free life!

Discolored Patches On Face Why Do They Form?

Discolored patches of color on the face that cover the upper lip, cheeks or forehead can make you look bad. What are they and how do they form? Let us find out more about these colored patches or melasma as it is called. This is a problem both for men and women, and not only for women, as it is wrongly believed. Let us find out more so you can stop them.

Skin- Why Do Colored Patches Form?

The color of our skin is because of melanin that is produced by cells called-melanocytes. These melanocytes sometimes get hyper active and produce much more melanin than needed. This activity can be triggered by some phototoxic allergies, hormonal imbalance, pregnancy etc. If you use a product that is photo toxic there are very good possibilities that you will develop melasma. Photo toxic means that the product is safe for use if no sun is present, but will produce allergy as soon as sunrays strike it. Hair dyes are a good example of this. In women during pregnancy and while taking birth control pills, hormones activate the melanocytes in the skin and produce more of melanin-the skin color. You will therefore get the colored patches on the facial skin.

    Skin And Sun protection-

Protect your skin from sun as much as possible. The sun is activating factor for melanin. If you protect your skin from sun, you will save lot of damage to skin including keeping these colored patches away.

Five Easy Guidelines for Acne Skin Care

Are you having acne problem? Have you done something about it? No need to worry, almost everyone has a problem with acne. Nearly all of high-school-age girls to older women, even including men, experience this skin care problem. Acne may not be a dangerous skin disease, but the common appearance, especially if it becomes worse and severe, can become a very serious problem. Thus, you?re going to need a significant acne skin care.

Before going further to acne skin care, it will be best to get to know more about acne. It is a skin disorder caused by hormones on the skin?s oil glands. This leads to open skin pores and cause some spots, annoying ones, to emerge. These spots are called acne and usually occur on the face, neck, back, and chest.

A permanent blemish and scar caused by acne should be treated seriously. Besides it may distress the people who are affected, it can also lead to a worse skin condition. Here are some easy guidelines how to treat the acne - and to give care to your skin in general:

    1. The first and most important to do is gently wash your skin, especially your face, at least twice a day. Use a mild cleanser and after that, clean your skin with water. Ask your dermatologist about what kind of cleanser to be used according to your skin type.

    2. Use appropriate acne products, which you can get by asking your doctor. Allow some time for the medicine to work as suggested by the doctor or as said in the instruction. You?ll see the improvement later, which usually takes several weeks.

    3. Be careful when using cosmetics. You should use ones that are oil free, since oily skin is believed to be one of the factors that contribute to the emergence of acne.

    4. Take vitamins for your skin. Vitamin E is the best one for a good skin. You can consume it through some fresh foods (fruits and vegetables) or simply just take vitamin E tablets available at drug stores.

    5. Start a new healthy lifestyle by doing a balanced diet. Eat healthy foods, namely the low-fat and fresh ones. Don?t forget to drink a lot of water since it helps bring out toxin from the body.

You see from the above guidelines that there?s no difficulty at all in acne care, right? You just need to live clean and healthy to have a good skin. So, why not start a new lifestyle today? And buy only quality products - for a long-lasting healthy skin ever.

    Skin Care and Protection

Skin care and protection of skin should be an essential part of your health for fitness & beauty regime. If you take care of your skin, your skin will take care of you! If you're stuck in a skin care rut, or if you are just looking to learn a bit more about the basics of skin care, read on to learn more about this important step in your daily activities.

    Some Opinions for Skin Care:

The first step to taking care of your skin is preventing damage. Sun, wind, pollutants, and simply aging can degrade the condition of your skin. Common complaints include dry and itchy skin, wrinkles, sagging, color changes, and age spots. There are steps that you can take to keep you skin looking and feeling its best.

Exercise, rest, and good nutrition lay the foundation for beautiful, healthy skin, inside and out. A proper diet is not only good for your overall health, it also helps to ensure that your skin will receive all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that it needs to maintain and repair cells. Drinking purified water is another good way to keep your skin healthy. Water helps to hydrate the skin and move waste and nutrients through the system. It is very effective mixing a teaspoon or capful of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar in with your water. Do not drink Tap Water.

The most important way to care for your skin is to protect it from the damaging rays of the sun. Ultraviolet radiation damages the skin and can lead to wrinkles, premature aging, age spots, and cancer. Take extra precautions to make sure your skin is not exposed to the sun?s rays.

Dry skin is very common, especially with age. Older skin has fewer sweat and oil glands than younger skin. Dry skin may be caused by frequent baths, certain cosmetics or medications. But whatever the cause, there are ways to alleviate the itchiness associated with it.

    3 Tips for Skin Care:

A skin care routine does not have to be elaborate in order to be effective. But you should develop some kind of skin care routine based on your skin type, daily activities, and nutritional needs so that you can be sure you are taking the very best care of your skin. Following a daily skin care regime will also allow you to more closely evaluate your skin for abnormalities. Here's a simple routine that you can adapt to fit your needs:

    1. Cleanse: Wash your skin thoroughly on a daily basis to remove the dirt, debris, pollutants, and perspiration that accumulates on a daily basis. If you have dry or sensitive skin, use only warm water to wash your skin and use a mild natural cleanser every few days like the product Oxy-Skin. If you have normal or oily skin, be sure to wash with a gentle cleanser on a daily basis. Be sure to brush your teeth before washing your face, as toothpaste residue can irritate sensitive facial skin.

    2. Moisturize: Unless your skin is very oily, you will want to use a moisturizer everyday to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Your skin needs moisturizer all year long as both the indoor winter heat, and summer sun can be equally damaging to your skin. The most advanced product is ?Parfait Visage? which is used for the face.

    3. Protect: Use a natural sunscreen when possible, regardless of whether or not you plan on spending much time in the sun. The sun's rays are very damaging and if you get in the habit of applying sunscreen everyday, you will never be left without protection. The suns most beneficial rays occur at sunrise and sunset.

    Always Wear Sunscreen

Always wear sunscreen. How many time have you heard it? The American Academy of Dermatology reaffirms its long-standing position that sunscreen protection is beneficial in preventing painful sunburn, photo aging and skin cancer.

Always wear sunscreen regularly as part of an overall sun protection program. Whenever possible wear a hat, sun protective clothing and avoid peak sun hours. For added protection against dry skin problems look for moisturizers with sunscreen in them.

To be most effective, sun protection should begin in childhood and continue throughout your life. Use sunscreen protection as part of a daily routine.

Here are some helpful tips when going outside in the sun:

. Try to stay out of the sun between 10am and 4pm when the sun is at its hottest.

. Apply sunscreen protection with at least 15 SPF and reapply every two hours when outside, even on overcast days.

. Wear sunglasses and a hat to protect your eyes and head.

. Stay in the shade as much as you can.

. Be aware of places that reflect the sun back on you, like pool water.

. Wear loose fitting clothes that allow your skin to breathe but protect you from the damaging rays of the sun.

. Be especially careful with children, apply sunscreen protection often and limit their sun exposure.

Commit yourself to a lifetime of healthy skin by developing good habits in skincare and teach your children about the importance of taking care of their skin.

The overall effects of the sun can damage your skin but remembering to always wear sunscreen is one of your best defenses in preventing it from happening to you.

How TCA Skin Peels Make Skin Look 10 Years Younger

While it is true that physical beauty is just skin deep, it is still no reason why people, particularly women, should disregard basic skin care. Since the skin is our outermost layer, it is exposed to the harsh elements of the environment. And because it is not uncommon for people to base judgments from our cover, with the face being the first thing they look at, it is only proper that we go to great lengths to keep our skin looking clean and fresh.

There are a lot of skin care products in the market today. Unlike before when a normal bar of soap was used for skin cleansing, cosmetic companies are now producing a wide variety of skin care treatments that can address various skin concerns. However, there are cases when treatments need to be more aggressive, especially for those who have aging or blemished skin. Most, if not all, of the over-the-counter products are topical in nature, meaning it only affects the epidermis or the outer layer of the skin. Aging or blemished skin needs to be treated down to the root of the problem to see definite changes.

This is where skin peeling comes in. While OTC medicines treat minor skin irritations, skin peeling makes use of more concentrated drugs to accelerate the removal of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, thus producing regeneration of new and younger-looking skin cells. Out of all the skin peeling procedures available, the TCA skin peel is the most popular.

TCA Peel, which stands for Trichloroacetic Peel, used trichloroacetic acid to remove superficial blemishes such as post-acne scars, correct pigment problems (melasma) and smooth out fine surface wrinkles. On some occasions, TCA Peel has even been used to remove and prevent the growth of pre-cancerous lesions. It is an intermediate to deep peeling agent that is normally used in 10 to 35% concentrations, depending on the extent of peeling that the patient wishes to achieve.

According to Dr. Jean M. Loftus, an American plastic surgeon who is recognized as an expert in the field of cosmetic surgery, claims that the TCA peel is ?perfect for women who want to have more than superficial peel but cannot afford the expense or recovery time of a deeper treatment. A good alternative to having the treatment done at a clinic would be through one of the medically-certified kits available online at sites such as http://www.bestskinpeel.com/.

Unlike more aggressive modes of treatment, the TCA skin peel is considered as a minor office procedure and can be done within 15 minutes to an hour. Since TCA is a chemical that will slough off the dead surface of the skin, patients may feel a burning sensation once it is applied. Some surgeons offer their patients pain killers or sedatives in order to tolerate the pain of the procedure. After taking the medicine, TCA is then applied to the problem areas, one area at a time. It is only normal that the face turns slightly red after the chemical has been applied ? this means that the TCA is already working its purpose. Iced saline is applied on the face after the procedure, to avoid further discomfort brought about by the chemical. The face will achieve to its normal color after 15 to 45 minutes. To finish off the procedure, an oil-based or steroid ointment will be slathered on the face to prevent the skin from being overly dry and to retain its normal moisture level.

Commercial Acne Treatments vs. Home Remedies

There are a number of both commercial and home remedy acne treatments, which are designed to help treat acne. The most popular of home remedies is the recommendation to wash your face twice each day, with the best times to be in the morning and before you go to bed at night. Keep in mind that it is best to avoid scrubbing too hard as this may aggravate, or even result in, acne.

There are many benefits to both commercial acne treatments and home remedies. Among them, commercial or prescription acne treatments are often medically recommended. On the flip side, home remedy acne treatments are not medically tested, but they are natural, free and usually contain ingredients that are not harmful. This is not always the case with commercial or prescription acne treatments, which often carry the potential for serious side effects. In addition, they can be quite expensive.

No matter which acne treatment you use, be careful of possible irritation. The last thing that you will want is to aggravate an acne-prone area with a treatment product as this would defeat the entire purpose. The best way to begin with any cream or lotion treatment is to apply the product to a small test area of skin in order to make sure there are no incompatibilities with your skin. In addition, make sure to read any warning or cautionary product labels to make sure that you are using the contents properly. In order for acne treatment medication to work, it has to be used correctly.

If you are searching for popular over the counter acne treatments, you are likely to find a variety of choices. Among them, medicated pads for wiping over the face, lotions, face wash, etc. Prescription acne treatments are often provided to those who need a more aggressive approach at acne treatment and may include the same product categories at a higher level of medication. Home remedy acne treatments include lotions containing aloe vera, a facial mask consisting of 4 tablespoons of honey and one grated apple, an oatmeal and water paste, etc.

Finding Acne Skin Care Products That Work For You

Each one of us is different, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the acne skin care products that work for each of us. Acne can be an upsetting condition, and finding a product that makes a real difference to the quality of our skin can be a slow process of trial and error. But while each of us will react differently to different acne skin care products, experiencing different levels of improvement in our skin, it can be heartening to hear of acne products that have worked for others. So if you are drowning in an overwhelming sea of different choices, here are some suggestions to get you started from some of the top acne products rated by real acne sufferers.

There are two main types of acne product ? oral medication, such as Accutane, or the contraceptive pill that tackle the problem from the inside, and topical solutions that work on the surface of your skin, such as various facial cleanser products. The latter are usually your first line of defence with acne, and there are many great acne products around that can make a real difference to the quality of your skin. Some of the products available can be overly astringent, which can dry your skin excessively, in turn causing the production of more of the sebum that causes spots, so using a milder product is wise, at least to start with. Many of the top acne products contain either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, both of which can be very effective in the treatment of acne, so look for acne skin care products that contain one of these ingredients.

Acne sufferers who have experienced dramatic improvement in their skin recommend the use of a good facial cleanser product as the first step in their skin care routine. Sufferers found improvement when using products such as Avon?s O2 cleanser, Clinique?s acne skin care range, Paula?s Choice products, Aveeno and Mary Kay?s Timewise or Velocity ranges. Individual blemishes respond well to topical solutions that can be used after facial cleansers, such as blemish sticks. Some sufferers also suggest the use of facemasks or peels, which can help remove impurities from your skin.

The wide variety of acne skin care products available today can be your tool in the fight against acne. You don?t have to suffer anymore ? you just have to find the one that works for you.
